Was this one of the best budget titles from Mastertronic? Which was your favourite? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1987: tinyurl.com/1987-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
Another excellent budget game that was in my opinion better than many full priced games was Action Biker, took me many hours of fun to master and finally complete.
Theres a game similar to Boulder Dash on the channel called '20 Tons'... a game I'd literally spend HOURS creating my own levels on. I loved creating things like that, just to then test out on my friends or my brother. Good times 😇🕹️👌
Once you know what speeds are needed for each obstacle you can get through the courses pretty fast! It all floods back once I played it again... even after all these years. Must have left an impact on me as a kid 😇🕹️👌
The ability to design your own courses is definitely one of the best features... for those who had the patience. I'd spend hours myself too... but it was just superb to be able to create them and then play them out and test your friends on them. Good memories 😇🕹️👌
The best £1.99 ever spent. Put 90%+ of full price games to shame! Bloody brilliant. Also had Super Scramble on the Amiga which I think was based on this game.
Yeah Super Scramble came from the same development team I believe... or at least the same software house. Trials Rising is a good game, I've played that on my buddies X-Box 😇🕹️👌
This game was so much fun, and had such great graphics too! Me and my friends had a lot of fun with his one. Personally I just loved the editor mode, and probably made most custom levels of all my friends, forcing their poor souls to suffer them. Honestly all those C64 games with editors were dangerous for me, and games like Boulder Dash Construction Kit, Shoot 'Em Up Construction Kit and a Krakout/Arkanoid style construction kit style game I can't remember the name of could keep me up all night testing new ideas. I guess school suffered some from that.
You and me both! The amount of 'sick' days I'd pretend to with my poor Mum at the time just to get the day off work to play Commodore 64 games! Gah, the guilt haha 😇🕹️👌
I loved the original Kikstart and couldn't wait for this to be released, I wasn't disappointed, it was one of the best budget games ever made for the Commodore 64, in fact it would have been well worth a full price tag. I spent many hours practicing and then playing against my mates, absolutely awesome times. The course designer was an added bonus making an awesome game even better, I made some crazy courses.
Loved it. Another game I played with my brother a lot. Oddly enough I could run the courses flawlessly when playing alone, but when pitted against my brother, things went very differently! I suspect him of pulling a few pokes to my disadvantage..!
I'd always panic if I was behind... make mistakes and then my mates would beat me. However, I could usually beat my older brother at it, which was ultimately the beginning of a few household rows back in the mid 80s haha 😇🕹️👌
Definitely one of my most played. Had so many phases of coming back to this game again and again. Was worth playing just for the sound of the rider falling off the bike 😂
All absolutely brilliant racers those that you've mentioned. They're all listed on the 'Racing' playlist too... great games 😇🕹️👌th-cam.com/play/PL_TYjnCNYSezgv04kyhHHWVS2-KOpb0yC.html
It is, it's a bit fiddly at first remembering which keys are for which obstacle, but it does become pretty addictive buiding 'doable' courses which are also challenging for friends to try 😇🕹️👌
Can't stop hearing the crash whistle! I heard that a lot in the '80s, I fired it up the other month and noted nothing has changed! Dang this game is hard, why did I keep going back!? so good :)
That's the beauty about these Commodore 64 games... even though they might be dated, for us guys this was where it all began. I think that's the reason I am loving this nostalgic trip down memory lane 😇🕹️👌
Its surprisingly difficult in 2 player mode as you want to go as fast as you can against your friend... or in my case, my brother. I definitely do better against the computer opponent 😇🕹️👌
Yeah definitely has to have ski jumps whenever you create your own course! That was the best obstacle in the game for me... shortly followed by about 5 or 6 fire breathing pylons! 😇🕹️👌
Sounds exactly like my experiences playing this game, I'd play against friends and then try to out-do them by building the most torturous levels for them to ultimately fail on haha 😇🕹️👌
Getting Excite bike vibes off that game. Looks a lot more fun though. Another great video. My brother will be home for Christmas so I'll add this to the C64 mini. The editor will be great fun after a few beers 😂
Ahh excellent!! I love that... I regularly have 'games days' with my brother, but he's more into his modern titles now, even if we do just end up playing PGA Golf lately haha. I must reintroduce him to this, but it might bring back PTSD from when I used to kick his ass regularly on it 😇🕹️👌
I can see this game being right up there as a fan favourite amongst many, it was just incredibly addictive and is still great to pick up and play today 😇🕹️👌
Yeah we had some neck and neck races as kids and my brother would usually end up beating me by the slightest of margins... I was only around 6 at the time so it caused some 'flinging joysticks' back in the day 😇🕹️👌
shaun southern is a bit of a game programming hero for me, on amiga he created the fabulous series supercars and ofcourse lotus! on c64 he also had another banger game; trailblazer
Absolute classic in my eyes ,£1.99 bloody bargain So many hours spent creating tracks Done by the guys that went on to do lotus challenge under magnetic fields
Yeah that's right - ahh Magnetic Fields, they also created one of my favourite ever RPG games for the Amiga which was never going to be as popular as Eye Of The Beholder or Dungeon Master... but 'Crystal Dragon' was right up there as one of the best for me. Must get around to playing that again someday soon 😇🕹️👌
I loved this I remember working out the exact speed I needed to go for the different obstacles. Maximum speed before the game chucks you off lol. And I remember making my own level. The entire thing was just mud. Guess I wasn't the most imaginative kid lol 😆
A complete mud track would have been a slow going level thats for sure! Haha, I remember making one with nothing but picnic tables and fire! That was tough to navigate 😇🕹️👌
This game reminds me of going out biking with my brother once, only to have him throw a stick into my bike's front wheel spokes on a downhill stretch, sending me ass over tea kettle in spectacular fashion. Still, not as bad as when he crashed into a parked car and broke his arm. Ah, the memories.
Memories of number 8 course in the original game. Easiest course to complete so this was the one I kept playing just to get that faster 0.01 seconds record 😀
I always tried pushing the bike to it's limit and keeping an eye on the speed gauge for the certain obstacles... you could make some pretty quick times if you could get it right down to centimetres before changing speed 😇🕹️👌
Loved the show and the kick-start games. Me and my mates trying to beat each other's times and win the trophy (ie the chocolate bar). Along with that dam catchy tune. It was an absolutely fantastic game. Plus the course builder, oh yes. Top game. 👍 🕹️
One of the 'very good' split screen games. I might have to start a playlist for 2 player split screen games as there were some superb titles. Silkworm springs to mind also 😇🕹️👌
Excitebike and Kikstart are both from 1985. But this is Kikstart II from 1987. There is BMX Kidz on the C64, also from 1987, which is more similar to Excitebike.
Anyone else waiting to see what the fire trap does to the player? Such a missed opportunity for CREATURES-style gore... Not gonna lie, this looks awesome, never heard of it. Games with level editors such as Wizard were usually a treat. _"10/10 Vroom's"_
I think I only played the first game. I never really could figure it out. Every time I tried to play, I'd end up like the kid at 1:35. LOL! I always wanted to learn enough to be decent at this game... but it never happened.
When this first arrived it was super popular with my friends so we'd all play against each other... was a steep learning curve, but we eventually created some superb courses and constantly tested them on each other. Great memories 😇🕹️👌
I liked the graphics, but I didn't have the patience to figure out what I needed to do for each section of the course. On the subject of other games, did you ever play Saucer Attack? Kind of a mediocre game, but it has great graphics by the legendary Jim Sachs. In fact, I think it was his first game, designed and programmed by him, then sold directly from his home, in the pages of various magazines.
I have played KIKSTART II for the first time on my Amiga 500 back in February 2008 😺👍. The tracks are absolutely tricky 😹, but the game itself is much better 😺👍🕹️ than MOTORBIKE MADNESS 😹. I still have the original KIKSTART (tape) for my Commodore 64 😺👍🕹️. The brazilian 🇧🇷 thrash metal legends SEPULTURA also play at 3:25 with ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS 😹🤘🎵🎶.

Kane (1 & 2) and Battle Valley
plus 100 points for Sepultura
Absolutely man, love Sepultura 😇🕹️👌
I think one of my most played games on the C64. The course designer was amazing.
I loved building my own levels like in boulder dash.

Oh my! I still remember that course designer, I spend hours and hours with it!
I expect we all made a course that was just huge jump after huge jump?!
It definitely extended the games longevity that's for sure... a genius move was to add the ability to create your own courses 😇🕹️👌
Yup... just place 1 ramp at the start, then about 20 ski jumps... all jumping over fire haha. Good times 😇🕹️👌
Another good memory.
Took me a while to figure out all of the different obstacles, but it was so much fun.
Once you know what speeds are needed for each obstacle you can get through the courses pretty fast! It all floods back once I played it again... even after all these years. Must have left an impact on me as a kid 😇🕹️👌
My pal and I used to crack up because the loser's bike would be stuck in mid-air at the end! For some reason it just used to tickle us. Great game
Haha yeah I remember that glitch too now. Good memory that! I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it 😇🕹️👌
I adored this game!!! Spent hours and hours in the course designer. But what an unusually dramatic title track 🤔
The ability to design your own courses is definitely one of the best features... for those who had the patience. I'd spend hours myself too... but it was just superb to be able to create them and then play them out and test your friends on them. Good memories 😇🕹️👌

Superb game for a 'budget' label... what an absolute steal this was back in the day 😇🕹️👌
That intro tune is great! Gets me all nostalgic. The game is something that I kept going back to, and I think it's still worth playing.
Sure is, Mastertronic came out with some absolute bonafide classics back in the 80s and this was definitely one of them 😇🕹️👌
Loved it. Another game I played with my brother a lot. Oddly enough I could run the courses flawlessly when playing alone, but when pitted against my brother, things went very differently! I suspect him of pulling a few pokes to my disadvantage..!

Was worth playing just for the sound of the rider falling off the bike 😂
Was a nice touch to add those sound effects for the biker being dismounted, very memorable indeed 😇🕹️👌
I loved playing this game but had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the memory jog (and the funny kid crash clip). 👍🏼
Glad this video brought back some nostalgic memories and yeah haha - the Wilhelm Scream! Always gets a giggle 😇🕹️👌
My favourite C64 racing game (mainly because of the level editor). Also loved Buggy Boy, Super Off-Road, and Pitstop II.
All absolutely brilliant racers those that you've mentioned. They're all listed on the 'Racing' playlist too... great games 😇🕹️👌th-cam.com/play/PL_TYjnCNYSezgv04kyhHHWVS2-KOpb0yC.html
I love music. Editor is funny to experiment too.
It is, it's a bit fiddly at first remembering which keys are for which obstacle, but it does become pretty addictive buiding 'doable' courses which are also challenging for friends to try 😇🕹️👌
Absolute classic, is in my favorite collection and play now and then still.
Awesome, yeah I had some fun playing this old classic once again 😇🕹️👌

A real classic this one. I sucked at the game as a kid and I suck at it now. Great video!
Its surprisingly difficult in 2 player mode as you want to go as fast as you can against your friend... or in my case, my brother. I definitely do better against the computer opponent 😇🕹️👌
This was a great game. I'd make my own courses to play through, mostly including lots of ramps and ski jumps.
Yeah definitely has to have ski jumps whenever you create your own course! That was the best obstacle in the game for me... shortly followed by about 5 or 6 fire breathing pylons! 😇🕹️👌
wow what a game, so much fun had with my brother and my m8s, and them making some insane levels in the editor. thanks!
Sounds exactly like my experiences playing this game, I'd play against friends and then try to out-do them by building the most torturous levels for them to ultimately fail on haha 😇🕹️👌
Good laugh this was! as was on the TV show when the St Johns Ambulance lads fell down the ditch!
Haha I wish they'd filmed all the episodes and stuck them on TH-cam... that'd be good to see 😇🕹️👌
This jolly chap, Shaun Southern, created some very good games after this one. But still, Kikstart 2 holds a special place in my heart.
Absolutely, pretty much a legend. I'll always hold Kikstart II as one of the best games to come from the Mastertronic label 😇🕹️👌
great two player game. I found the flying off your bike animation hilarious
Yeah he just spins completely out of control... yet always lands conveniently on his back! 😇🕹️👌
My brother and I played Kickstart - brilliant game!
Same, very addictive and memorable game which we both loved to play back in the late 80s 😇🕹️👌
This one was great fun, especially making a tricky special track and racing my brothers on it.
You included the Wilhelm scream, that is so funny 🙂nice one.
That wilhelm scream is iconic isn't it.. and comical at the same time haha. I've added it into a few game reviews now 😇🕹️👌
I always adore games like this.
Yeah me too, I remember those good times in gaming very fondly 😇🕹️👌
Getting Excite bike vibes off that game. Looks a lot more fun though.

I can see this game being right up there as a fan favourite amongst many, it was just incredibly addictive and is still great to pick up and play today 😇🕹️👌
Loved the game! Fantastic theme song!
Very memorable indeed. A superb budget range game... which quickly became a favourite amongst many 😇🕹️👌
As much as I LOVED this, I wanted to rage quit sooooo many times. Loved this game!

Both fantastic games that can also be found on this channel... well, Supercars II anyway 😇🕹️👌
Best game ever... but I have been on the wine and I love KS/KS2
Always better to attempt the most dangerous courses after at least 3 glasses of vino 😇🕹️👌
Fantastic game still in 2024, and the intro music is fantastic. :)
I agree with you there, the music alone is pretty legendary 😇🕹️👌
Absolute classic in my eyes ,£1.99 bloody bargain

I remember both the TV series and this game. Brilliant fun, especially with two players. It was an absolute bargain at £1.99!
2 players was definitely the way forward with this game - so much nostalgia for Kikstart II 😇🕹️👌
I loved this I remember working out the exact speed I needed to go for the different obstacles. Maximum speed before the game chucks you off lol.

Such a classic
Absolutely.. for a budget title it played better than a lot of the full-priced games 😇🕹️👌
The Kikstart Theme are: Be my boogie woogie from Mr. Walkie Talkie alias Drafi Deutscher
Ahh nice, a bit of trivia there - I wasn't sure what the song was called until now 😇🕹️👌
Never played the game, but nice Sepultura reference anyway
Big love for Sepultura! 😇🕹️👌

Great game. Made a lot of courses with my friends. I didn’t know about the TV show, it wasn’t shown in my country.
Superb game - yeah the TV show was mainly showin in the UK as far as I know. Great show too, I enjoyed it when I was a kid 😇🕹👌
is this Excitebike before the NES? back in the day the C64 truly had it all
Excitebike and Kikstart are both from 1985. But this is Kikstart II from 1987. There is BMX Kidz on the C64, also from 1987, which is more similar to Excitebike.
I did play excitebike on my friends NES though too back in the day... another half decent game for the Nintendo 😇🕹️👌
The Amiga port of Kickstart was REALLY weird. Totally different game. All it did it show a really badly drawn hand holding a floppy disk.
It was still a buggy Version ;-)
Nice music, but always felt much slower than the C64 version... even though I think it was the same developers 😇🕹️👌
