    Hey everyone, I want to say a big thank you for all the support on this video! Hearing about every individual calisthenics journey is so motivating. A big reason why I started this channel is because I wanted to show the real work it takes to achieve these amazing skills. We see it social media all the time, the crazy levels of strength that takes years to achieve, but we don't often see the steps it takes to get there. I fell in love with Calisthenics after I unlocked my first handstand push up.

    Insane progress in a short amount of time! I notice myself going through waves of losing motivation to put in the effort and being completely fired up again. I think it is a natural part of the process to give yourself a break now and again to avoid burnout, especially on this journey where progress can feel completely stagnant at times. Looking forward to seeing more of your content!

    This is really inspiring bro! Thanks for sharing your journey! I've been doing calisthenics for a couple of years now, but never got to a point where I was seriously pursuing more advanced movements. I've been wanting to commit to learning the front lever, muscle-ups, handstand pushups, and the like, and this video was a great wake-up call that if I put the work in, I can progress far further than I already have.     Love the point you made at 9:50 dude, this is the mentality that I have had through my calisthenics journey as well and it's helped me enjoy the journey over the destination 100%.     I used to lift for 2-3 hours a day and my body was just not in good shape after breaking it down like that.
    So I quit lifting and started just doing yoga and cardio, but I have been feeling called to start doing these kinds of workouts - strength based calisthenics. It's the best of both worlds - and the most functional as far as I can tell.

    Fantastic video. Also love the mindset description at the end not to mention the excellent growth and training process!
    I trained the exact same way and I'm now currently in month 6 of my planche journey. I don't understand how people don't master handstand pressing strength first. It makes understanding the planche and pushing power so much easier with already having 90 degree HSPU's and multiple rep HSPU's already under the belt.

      Excellent points! I think most people aren’t willing to sit through the grind of handstands and the pressing skills that come with it. It’s such an overlooked skill and it’s honestly my favorite. The amount of body awareness we gain from the pushing and pressing is definitely going to help in the planche. I recently started my planche journey and can already see solid form in the tuck/advanced tuck but not very long holds haha.
      Keep grinding with your planche journey brother, I respect your determination. You’re killing it💪🏽

    Wow, this is an awesome transformation. You can really see how you get stronger and stronger throughout the year and i was very impressed with the form on everything, it makes the skill look 1000 times better! Ive also been training calisthenics for about a year (mainly focusing on planche) and have managed to get a 5 second straddle planche hold in that time. I’m sure you’ll make amazing progress with the planche and I wish you the best of luck! Look forward to seeing new stuff!

      Thank you for the kind words brother🙏🏽 you’re absolutely killing it in the planche! A straddle hold is no joke, I’m working my way to advanced tuck at the moment:) do you have any advice or exercises that helped with your journey? Keep going strong with your journey man, you’re killing it🔥

      Thank you so much!!! Although I didn’t work on the advanced tuck for a very long period (I kinda just went to banded straddle attempts), one thing that I noticed is that activating your core is a huge factor in the advanced tuck to keep the somewhat rounded back as well as scapular protraction. And also when working on the straddle, bands have really helped me properly understand the movement, and what muscles to activate, so I would definitely recommend banded planche holds. Other than those, keep working on HSPU, that builds some awesome shoulder strength especially with your good form and also 90 degree pushups, because the bottom of that is a bent arm planche. I hope this helps out! 🔥💪

    Id say doing handstands on blocks (just a tiny bit each session) helped me learn how to properly handstand. Keep up the work bro 💪🏼

      ​@@teotlkevahahaha that's true! I've trained planche for almost a whole month but all I could do was increase my tuck planche time to about 30 seconds and that's it! Couldn't even open to advanced tuck. But now I believe the handstand pushup along with the 90° degree pushup should get me really far in that journey. I'll be waiting for the guide! :)

    You had a really strong base because being able to progress so fast, it is crazy.
    And to be fair, i am kinda jealous. In the first 6 months, I only did push ups and core exercises, then I finally did some push ups, but it was from time to time. After 1 year, I finally understood that I needed to gain weight. So I gained weight with fat (I was skinny), and 1 year after I was only doing basics. So I basically ruined 2 years of progress by doing noting, and the next 6 months were a bit better. Now I can progress faster, but I have the feeling I wasted 3 years, and in that time I could be able to do so many things….

      Yup I had a strong base in basic pushing/pulling movements with the majority of my training being focused on yoga/rings before this transformation. 2023 was the first time I decided to lock in to the calisthenics grind, while cutting down on my yoga practice.
      The on and off training is part of the process, everyone goes through it during their fitness journey, my self included. From 2020 to end of 2022, I had inconsistent training that involved doing too much at once which led to no results besides a muscle up. It wasn’t until 2023 where I decided to truly become a calisthenics athlete, pushing away other hobbies like running and cutting down on yoga (I still have my daily practice just not as long anymore). You are on the right path to succeed! Consistency is a big part in making progress. Training the body is important but training the mind to stay disciplined is a whole other hurdle. I believe in you man, stay strong in your journey🙌🏽

    Full ROM aka lockout or it doesn't count! -Hannibal the King ... I am in total agreement with you! Going slow and controlled and enjoying full range of motion is the only way to build the strength and skills of calisthenics. My commitment to form and ROM has always been my edge over my fellow classmates and friends who have tried body weight training. Not saying I'm better just saying it's turns out to be the most important way to advance with no shortcuts! Your handstand pushups are sick man good job!

      Full ROM is the way to do it! I believe partials can be beneficial when first learning a movement, especially when the goal is the smoothen the movement. But the goal should always be full ROM imo. I appreciate all the support brother, keep up the grind in calisthenics💪🏽🔥

      @@Syndrosia wow very nice! I have a background in yoga so I’ll definitely have to drop some mobility routines soon. The foundation for all my mobility sessions involves the deep squat. With daily practice you can definitely overcome the struggle! Including it with your warm up before the planche training would be 🔥

      Thank you brother💪🏽 keep grinding and you will unlock it! One thing that helped me achieve it was increasing the frequency of the sessions from 2x a week to 3x. More on this in my “Path to Handstand Push Up” video releasing tomorrow!

    Dude amazing job! You pushed thru your struggle and pain every day, and it payed off! Your lookin fit man! One piece of advice I have for training, hold each position of the motion for a long as possible, then do each rep as slow as possible, it unlocks your ability to perform each exercise perfectly, rather than failing at the same spot over and over. Keep it up!!

      Very solid advice! I actually just recently started incorporating those types of holds in my handstand push up training. I’ve been failing on the 5th rep so instead of going for an attempt I’ve been adding a max hold shoulder stand at the end of my HSPU set. It actually works wonders! Keep going with your fitness journey as well, we in this together💪🏽

      Very nice my friend, those are perfect movements to start off with! I actually learned my pistol squat from holding a deep squat (the bottom position) and extending one leg at a time. Keep up the good work, you’re on the right path brother 💪🏽

      Thank you brother, I was honestly super shocked when I was reviewing my old clips. I didn’t realize how quick I was progressing until I stopped to look back, falling in love with the journey is actually what helped me the most in my handstands. It’s one of those skills that requires at least 4x a week to train. After a warm up + mobility, I would train handstand holds for about 10 min. I would set a timer in order to avoid excessive training. Handstands do require some strength to perform but they can also be done more efficiently with good alignment.
      The path to handstand push up guide is taking me longer than expected to finish. I’m really proud with what I have so far, I’ll definitely drop a handstand guide sometime in the future as well🙌🏽

      Thank you! The alignment in my handstand used to be a really big struggle, I’d have an arched back and I’d be leaning super far to the right. I will post the 10 minute follow along mobility routine that I personally do before every calisthenics session as soon as I can.     Hey man really nice progression, I enjoyed the Video, I also managed to do 1 HSPU but I have not really progressed since then because I don't really know how I should incorporate hspu training into my routine, I don't want this to affect my progress in weighted dips and other exercises on push days. How did you manage to incorporate this type of training into your normal routine or what would be your advice on how to progress in the HSPU without sacrificing the progress in other push exercises.       Great questions my friend, one of the hardest parts of calisthenics is juggling skills with other parts of our fitness routines. A split that is currently working well for me is HSPU + OAP, FL + 90 degree HSPU, 3 sessions each for 6x a week. I would recommend having one day focused on shoulders (HSPU), the next day chest (heavy dips) , and continuing your split from there.
      Option 2: since you have your first rep in HSPU unlocked, I’d recommend doing 1 rep HSPU for 10 min every minute on the minute. So start a stop watch and do your first rep, once the stopwatch hits 1 min you do another rep, then another at 2 min, another at 3 min, and so on. Adjusting the rest time as needed so maybe going for every 2 minutes instead of 1 min.
      Because HSPU is a very technical skill due to the balancing aspect, it is best to train it at least 2-3x a week, even if it’s just for 10 min at the beginning of your push days. I am planning on dropping a guide for how to train HSPU after unlocking the first rep, and this is a great topic to cover in it! Hope this helps💪🏽

      Thank you for the support brother, I have a great drill in my HSPU guide for the L-sit, it’s in the “stretching” section and I’d highly recommend giving it a try! I have many more guides and movement tutorials planned in the future, the L-sit will be one of them. For now I would try holding the L sit on an elevated surface, either with 2 chairs or with parallettes, and holding L-sit holds (dynamic/static) on a pull up bar. I am transitioning from regular gym to callisthenics now and combined this with my MMA and BJJ training it's a bit hard to progress as fast as I would because my wrists most of the time are in pain. I made a pair of low parapets last Friday, and I am very impressed of how much pressure they take from the wrists ! Hope that will allow me to train more consistent !

      Thank you, I’ll make a separate video about programming sometime in the future. I started off doing push/pull/legs, with leg day focusing on mobility/yoga. It was a pretty basic gym bro split and I made some progress with it in terms of strength. Once I decided to switch my focus to skill training, I began to do push/pull/push/pull consecutively for 4x a week with 1 day of rest. Now I train a different skill everyday with 1 full day of rest every 4-6 sessions (leg day = mobility drills for me). Hope this helps brother, stay consistent on your fitness journey and you will make progress!💪🏽

    How to get front lever? I can currently do 4 sets of 7 Chin/Pullups. I can also hold hanging L it for 45 seconds probably (untested) and 30 second Parallete L sit. My goal this year is also to get muscle up

      Excellent goals my friend, I’d recommend doing more pulling movements from the horizontal plane. The L sit pull ups are in my routine as well, but it’s important to get more volume in rows (starting in tuck then regressing to advanced tuck).       I initially trained with push/pull/legs (sprints and yoga) but I changed my focus for the last 2-3 months to push/pull/push/pull for 6 sessions a week, with legs being done primarily for mobility purposes through daily yoga (at least 10 min a day). I currently train for skills so each day focuses on 1 push and 1 pull skill💪🏽

      For now I would recommend adding some one arm hangs or shrugs into your session, you can’t go wrong with band assisted reps either. Getting small exposure maybe 4x a week, or whenever you have your pull day, is a a great way to get conditioning for the skill. Check out my shorts for an example my friend💪🏽

      Great question! I would recommend looking into ape index for a more researched answer on that topic. Calisthenics is a lot of fun and can lead to great results when done correctly. You’re going to get stronger the more you practice. Skills are really tough no matter the size of the body, keep grinding my friend and your arms will adapt and surprise you🙌🏽

      Thank you brother🙏🏽 I usually stay under 140 pounds as a maintenance weight. I used to experiment with a lot of fasting, meal preps, and counting calories. Nowadays I like to eat intuitively, and never to the point of bloating. I can do a whole video talking about nutrition if you’re interested💪🏽

I definitely felt the advantage in handstands though since the fall wasn’t very big. I have mad respect for the tall calisthenics athletes out there, keep up the good work brother🙌🏽

      Great question! I would dabble in weighted calisthenics for a session or two a month but didn’t really incorporate it seriously into my routine until now. 2023 was mainly body weight, and so far 2024 is taking a similar path, but I love using a weight vest on my strength block in HSPU/L-sit. Ankle weights have also been added to my routine for explosive pull ups! You can get really far (especially with the technical work) through strictly body weight 💪🏽

    Only problem I’m having is how do I get a nice straight handstand? Is it really just overhead flexibility? I can’t hold a handstand for 20 seconds easy, can do handstand push ups negatives but the handstand form itself is always banana

      Great question! Closed shoulders are very common when you first start handstands, so you can never go wrong with working on overhead flexibility.
      The other reason for a banana back is due to the pelvis being in an anterior pelvic tilt (butt sticks out and ribs are splayed), a good way to fix this is to work on holding a posterior pelvic tilt (squeeze your glutes). I have a few drills to better understand this movement in my handstand push up guide. Hope this helps, keep going with your handstands brother💪🏽

      I wish I had the footage of my early days in front lever, I know I have my GoPro around here somewhere lol. The front lever was actually the hardest and most frustrating skill for me. I had tried learning it back in 2022 and failed. I felt like I started to make true progress in 2023 after I invested in the base bar. Having a low bar at home allowed me to train the front lever daily, and eventually it got me to where I am today.

      It’s a basebench pro from baseblocks! It is a little on the pricier side but it gets the job done. I spent a lot of time trying to justify the purchase haha. The base bars themselves are 100% worth it if you’re interested in the front lever. Having the equipment at home is what really helped me stay consistent, stay strong on your journey my friend🙌🏽

    What's the difference between parallettes and using your hands?

      Great question! Parallettes are typically easier to balance on due to the hands having something to grip. It’s a lot easier on the wrists since you can essentially move them in many directions with the parallettes. This is a big reason why 90 degree HSPU was achievable for me back in may/august but the freestanding one gave me a lot more trouble. The same thing happened with my HSPU as well, as long as you train both you will progress very nicely💪🏽

      @@teotlkev Oh I see thanks. Was wondering because lately I've been doing calisthenics mainly on my hands, but I notice my wrists tend to hurt afterwards. It's not a big issue, but I find it irritating especially when I attempt the tuck planche to 90 degree hold/handstand. Despite the pain, I'm still curious if it's possible for me to go from a tuck planche to handstand on parallettes, if I'm capable of performing 75% of this exercise without it.

      @@JY.k4waii20 You should definitely give it a try! The parallettes take away the wrist as a limiting factor, allowing you to really practice the movement firsthand. Doing it on the floor places the wrist into a lot of extension, it’s important to properly warm up and take a few warm up sets to get the blood flowing before doing any high stress work. For example, I spend about 20 minutes doing this before getting into any handstands, and after my holds I will begin to do the harder movements like HSPU and 90 degree HSPU. Experiment with the warm up and parallettes and you may surprise yourself. Keep going man, you’re doing great💪🏽

      The front lever was such a big hurdle for me to overcome in calisthenics. I tried learning it back in 2022, failed and didn’t restart calisthenics until November the same year. Surprisingly enough, I learned the front lever from doing horizontal pulling movements like rows, scapula retraction (very important drill) and FL raises. After many sessions I decided to do an attempt and to my surprise I could hold the full FL! So focusing on the strength in horizontal movements, then after you get stronger going for the holds. I’ll drop a guide covering it in more detail in the future🙌🏽

      I haven’t trained it much because it wasn’t a high priority for me in 2023. I did a planche assessment last week and found I could hold an advanced tuck pretty well for attempts. I haven’t done any more planche sessions besides general conditioning though. Funny enough today is my planche day!     Bro if you could do an L sit before starting Calisthenics, then this isn't the start of the journey lmfao. More like progressing from beginner to intermediate

      Yup that’s pretty much what the transformation is. I transitioned from having a practice that revolved around yoga to a practice that revolved around mainly calisthenics, so it’s a 1 year transformation since I made the switch. I give some context at the start of the video but I am by no means a complete beginner when it comes to body weight exercises. The journey continues my friend💪🏽🔥
