    Ive painted several refrigerators using the same epoxy after sanding the rust. really good results and a real money saver!

    Scott- I think Rustoleum’s Appliance Epoxy is one of their best kept secrets. I’ve used it on outdoor planters and metal fire doors and have achieved consistently phenomenal results. Unfortunately, they only make it in three colors - and I’ve always wondered how to replicate the formula by combining their other products, if possible. The overspray is extremely sticky and difficult to clean - perhaps consider one of those $30 or $40 spray shelters - they really make a huge difference and can be easily set up in your garage.

    I've redone a couple of rusty refrigerators with Rustoleum appliance enamel in a quart can and a foam roller. Other than sanding the instructions said 'no primer' and they turned out fantastic.

    Rust-Oleum has been in my paint arsenal for decades. I started painting professionally when I was 17 (54 yrs. ago), and Rust-Oleum spray and brush paints were used from the get-go.

    A 3M hand masker has been a game changer when it comes to painting prep. Would be really helpful as you mask with the plastic. Different blades for plastic and paper.

    Really great clear and not overly done instructions! I have started using a new can of Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy on a old Kenmore washing machine but am experiencing some small splatters here and there. I shake the can for more than one minute prior to use. Other than an occasional splatter it looks nice. I can't figure the nozzle causing this because its a new rattle can. What am I doing wrong?

    I would agree that the rust oleum appliance paint is great. I would check other paint mfgs. for epoxy spray paints. Someone must make since Brownells gunsmithing supplies sells "alumihyde" which is an epoxy spray paint in other colors the majority of which are a flat finish.

    Wonder what caused the rust to begin with. Moisture from inside? Poor quality fridge? I've never had this happen.

    Hi. I have a localized amount of rust around a dishwasher vent. My touch up paint is in a “white out” sized container. Is there a small amount of paint-on Rust Reformer I can buy? A spray can would be overkill. Thanks. Your fridge looks great, BTW…

    Thank you Scott, you mentioned you had an 8 foot garage door open for ventilation. That's what I need help with, something is causing mine to bind up when I try to lift it to open. I don't have an automatic garage door opener. I've hired 2 different HANDYMEN in the area and paid them under a hundred dollars each but I am still having trouble with the door. Each handyman sprayed the rollers with WD 40 White Lithium grease. Help !

      Those guys weren't very handy. ;( I can't say if your problem is the same as mine, but I have three roll-up doors, all of which had problems when I bought this place. Every one of them needed the tracks adjusted. I first checked the rollers, which I thought might be rusted, but they were just binding against the tracks, some to the side, some to the rollers' intended contact point. Two of the doors are in an old shop whose foundation is not the greatest, and it shifts so much I have to readjust the tracks every five years or so. I hope you find someone who actually knows something about those types of doors. You can probably find a DIY video or instructions on the Web. Good luck.

      @@billweb thank you for those words of encouragement. Those guys were real quick to want to have their hand out for the $. Such is life in Maine, I have learned the hard way ANYONE can print up a business card and leave at the small town stores. Doesn't mean their honest, or qualified, I just learned that twice.

    If the fridge is old enough that the doors have rusted, it's almost certainly old enough that the insulation has significantly perished. If that's the case you may be better off replacing it rather than refurbishing it, the energy savings can be significant. Electric rates here put that around the 10 year mark, when the energy savings justify replacement even if the old one still "works fine". Where that line is, exactly, will vary depending on the appliance cost and energy prices.

    If it's rusting from the inside out, like you said, it should have holes in the door much like a rusty car.

    An observation... if you have a textured finish, avoid (from the get go) cleaning with abrasives like Scotch Brite or those magic eraser products. They 'knock' off the highs of the texture exposing areas where moisture can enter & start rust spots. Personally, I think appliance mfg's know this and... well yeah. Cool videos, Thanks!

    With appliances I've had very mediocre results repairing them. Even doing it yourself, the time and money you spend ends up not being worth it because something else will inevitably go wrong 6 months later. Especially when you go down the rabbit hole of replacing parts. It's almost always just cheaper to replace the whole thing and not think about it again for years.
    The fridge may look like new now but how old is it really? If over 10-15 years it's probably going to start have cascading part failures soon anyway.

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is about 10 years old. I agree that it seems like appliances are more disposable as compared to those built 50-ish years ago.

    That is an old low cost refrigerator having nearly zero value. Refinishing the doors is a waste of time. Just buy a new refrigerator for a few hundred dollars. 🙂

    • @jessecavada3015
      @jessecavada3015 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed that appliances can be expensive. But so is my time. I would replace a 10+ year old appliance before investing any time refinishing it.
