I see your frustration! Sometimes, things can go wrong during DIY projects, but it's part of the learning process. Have you tried welding or metalworking for custom creations?
Personally, I've never had much success welding mild steel to high carbon steel. (motorcycle/scooter fork tubes are 'spring steel') Weld gets very hard and brittle unless you can normalise the parts after welding. Scrap motorcycle parts can come in handy for pretty high grade materials though, as long as it isn't 'critical application' Fork tube make quite good wood chisels and gouges and are so much cheaper than buying wood lathe tools The various sprockets he's cut up are also carbon steel and can be hardened after being shaped into something useful, profiling tools for wood turning, haven't tried them on metal but I'm sure they would work OK on aluminium or brass. I don't think the world really needs so many DIY pullers though. 😁

This is useless when you can get a vise grip style clamp at Harbor freight, that has a much greater grip range,and no tedious assembly.
