    Being a drummer...just gotta say that another one of the absolutely amazing things about that guitar solo (like there isn't enough already)...is how monstrously rhythmic it is. The bass and drums are laying down this monumental foundation...and Nuno is riding it like lighting in a hurricane. Dancing all over the fret-board...creating such tasty tasty tasty runs and combinations and explosions of sound. And those arpeggios where he climbs out of it!!!! There are lots of new guitarists on the block who can shred like a demon...but makin it musical you gotta have wisdom...you gotta have experience...and you gotta have years. Nuno has it in spades! Usually I always say that Guthrie Govan is my top dude on the guitar-playin block...but Nuno does things that I've just never seen or heard before...and he does them like an effing bat-out-of-hell!

    • @RyzenShine69
      @RyzenShine69 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Respect what you're saying but alot of what is in that solo is stuff Nuno has played before over the years. Why it sounds new and fresh is because he's crafted a bunch of his licks from these various tracks and thrown them into this tasty mix.
      Not that this matters overall but for those who love figuring out his solos, he has other songs that help guide you towards working this one out. Obviously only talking to those who love to learn by ear.

    I saw Extreme live on my 30th birthday. The thing that stood out is that Nuno didn’t look at the fretboard once. He played with his ears and hands like Jeff Healy or Stevie Wonder. At the same time he was running around like he was playing basketball. He didn’t miss a lick.

    This is a fantastic solo, and I'm glad to see him and the band getting some long overdue recognition because this isn't anything new for him. The song itself has a different vibe, but the solo is the type of work he's been doing for the past 30 plus years. Congrats to all of them.

    The mix is simply amazing. I haven’t heard anyone say anything about that. Listen to the vocals how they don’t compete with the guitar, but the guitar hasn’t been EQ’d to where It takes away its balls! Hats off to whoever mixed this record, and of course, Nuno is in beast mode, as he always is! Tim Henson, I hope you brought your lunchbox because Nuno is taking you to school.

      @@1c1su0ilbiaWhen you resort to randomizers triggering sequencers to generate something stimulating to the ear, you’ve strayed too far into the land of flash but zero meaning. NB did an interesting harmonic progression at the end that is reminiscent of Dream Theater and nodded to EVH while staying original in one solo. Different don’t mean much to me but we will see if in 30 plus years TH drops a new record and gets this kind of attention. What a mic drop.

    • @Puppetmaster2005
      @Puppetmaster2005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@onethousandtwonortheast8848 Listen carefully to the drums. Can you hear the high hats at all? Because I can't LOL.
      The song starts with great and tight guitar tone, but once the drums and bass kick in everything starts falling into quite a muffled, muddy mess. I think the best way to notice would be to play the track side by side to a reference track.
      Maybe Extreme intended for it to sound that way? I mean... it DOES make the vocals and guitar stand out a lot more, but... I think it still objectively sounds sub-par.
      Still a great song though.

    Nuno is an absolute machine on guitar...precise, highly technical, few if anyone can play as fast and as clean as Nuno can. Unbelievably talented rhythm/lead guitarist. What amazes me is Extreme still has that same gritty, edge-rock sound (and vocals) that they had over 20 years ago when Pornograffiti hit the shelves. I heard Rise pop on the radio for the first time a few months back, not knowing Extreme had released a new album...knew within seconds of hearing the song that it was Extreme, with Nuno ripping new riffs on a new album. Huge props to Extreme for cranking this one out and still sounding as good now as they did in the Pornograffiti days. The guitar solos in "Get the Funk Out" and the "Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" in "He-man Woman Hater" are legendary Nuno solos. 3 sides was also an amazing album...anyone with an appreciation for rock and highly skilled guitar work will love that album.

This is such a great new song coming from a band that rocked my twenties and fits right in with my favorite type of rock, percussive guitar playing is so awesome, Nuno showed us that he could do different styles years ago, just take for example one of their first hits 'More Than Words' and then listen to 'Rest In Peace'!!! Gary is also still tightly wound with Nuno, granted he messed things up when he went over to VH for a bit, not that the songs they created were rotten, but just not Extreme! Yeah, a little pun there haha! This is them man, just love it...and it's aggressive yet smooth when they hit some jazzy spots, melodic and great to listen to just on its own and if you're at all into video racing games this song could be an extreme (more pun haha) track song. Just watched Rick Beato's 2 hr interview with Nuno. The last 20 minutes of the video was Nuno riffing on some of Rick's guitars. He does this live, with another man's guitar, with nothing but a guitar, cord, and amp. It's all muted alternate picking. I was blown away.

    I wish Dimebag Darrel was still alive. I put him in the same category as Eddie and Nuno (I sometimes want to put Jerry Cantrel in there as well but Jerry is not a 'screamer' in the same way. Nuno said that quote about hands in an interview a few years ago. I liked it as well.
    The Nuno technique of ghost fretting isnt new he does it on "He-Man Woman H@ter" lead riff without effects.
    Nuno and Gary both have a lot of contact with Van Halen (Gary sang for them for a few years), Nuno is def a guitarist's guitar player - he says he still doesnt understand how he has "fans" when he still feels like a "fan".

    Just subscribed. Great reaction/analysis. Loved it. Every time I describe Nuno to someone who doesn’t know who he is I start with “percussive.” And as much of a student/influence of Eddie as he is I see the same in Eddie as well and I love it.

    The cool thing about this solo. The day he was recording that solo at his house. Gary showed up with EVH at his house. He wanted to hear what the album sounded like. The day he was recording that solo! Thats so cool!!

    This is my third time hearing it. First time around I heard that muted section of the solo and thought that's killer! The second time I heard it, It reminded me of something I couldn't put my finger on. Now I realize it's "Satch Boogie" it's making me think of. Lol. It's been 100 years since I heard it, so I'm probably all wrong, but it puts me in mind of it. I need to listen to it again and figure it out.

    I saw Extreme play in '94, and sadly being a rock festival with the likes of Pantera, the crowd turned on them. Lots of booing, throwing canisters filled with urine, things being thrown onto the stage. To their credit they played through it all, and even threw a few insults back at the angry mob - they somehow managed to feed off that negative energy. Glad to see they're still around and getting recognition.

    So, early 80s I'm working at Raytheon in Massachusetts where I befriend the cutest little lass named Janine. Turns out Janine is the girlfriend of some drummer dude named Paul Geary. Turns out Paul Geary is the drummer for some band called "The Dream." Turns out "The Dream" transitions its namesake into "Extreme" for some legalistic reason. Saw "The Dream" play many a time in Boston at The Channel, as well as a booze cruise or two in Boston Harbor. Shame it was all pre-Nuno, but still fun and amazing nonetheless. Move forward to Bettencourt days and all has only increased two-fold in sheer madness. How amazing that dude is cannot be worded sufficiently, nor can the fact that Gary still has vocal chops to die for. What a testament to longevity and talent. Chalk one up for the old guys.
