    The Song Within The Song...That's old school that only people that grew up with music from the era that he's talking about, and his peers reaching out to him came from and know all too well. So happy for Nuno and Extreme. They deserve all the accolades and attnention they're getting.

    Nuno has the rare ability Eddie had to inspire people who have never played because of his marriage of melody and feel while looking like a rock star. There are amazing players out there, but Nuno is able to go beyond a mere curiosity because his virtuosity is somehow relatable to more than guitarists. He always plays to the song like a hard rock Elliot Easton.

  • @gravity4fun364
    @gravity4fun364 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Awesome! That's exactly what was missing for these last several years, solos working for the songs! Rise was asking for a solo like that and Nuno made a master piece! There's a lot of great young guitar players out there in their bedrooms playing amazing things but this is going back to what a rock song should be and sound like!

    'Bury those guys' ? .....'take them down' ? C'mon man 😔....Edward wasn't part of all that macho crap...Forget this 'winners' & 'losers' rubbish...That's like all the competitive ego stuff where Joe Perry refused to shake Ed's hand & gave him 'the shaft with his eyes' ...Or when Ritchie told poor Ed as an unknown player to f*ck off....Or the Jack Butler thing where the guitar is made to laugh at someone else's failure ...When Ed saw brilliant players he didn't feel threatened by them & a need to compete with them but felt INSPIRED by them. That's why ED tried to help Allan Holdsworth in his career with Warners (even if it didn't work out)....Forget my words. I'm nobody. But LISTEN to what ED said in 1984 in Guitar Player magazine & follow his positive example..... (quote) ' Now you know the basic ingredients of rock & roll, remember your playing should have feeling & taste..The goal to me is to make music,not always to play the machine gun type gunslinger stuff. To me music is about entertainment. You shouldn't be playing it to save the world or to show people how great you are... Its just supposed to make you happy, make you cry, make you get horny or whatever. If it doesn't do that, then its not music. And remember; You learn by making mistakes. Don't be afraid to try something new. If I'm thrown into an unfamiliar situation,such as playing with Allan Holdsworth, I don't panic. Sometimes I skin my knees , but most of the time I land on my feet. My Dad had a Dutch saying that puts it much better than I can: Translated into English, it means, Ride your bicycle straight through. If you screw up, KEEP GOING'. (unquote) 🙏👍

    Regardless of players that can play more technical, what separates them from players like Nuno is substance, context, playing for the music/song and not simply to prove how many scales you can blast through in a millisecond. Nuno plays so tastefully and emotionally geared toward the entirety of each song that he manages to make good songs great. If you don't resonate with listeners, then who are you playing for but yourself and your ego. Nuno is cream of the crop in terms of intuition and musicality. Love this cat.

    Extreme have realised that with the glut of music, its very easy for an album to get lost in the mire. In the old days, there was less music being released, and when a band like extreme released a new album, it was a big event. Fans followed the release news excitedly, and had to have to the album on release day. I for one , recall the excitement of dropping the needle for the first time, and pouring over the liner notes and lyrics. They have clearly tried to create that with "6" and its definitely something i would love the music world to get back to... There was nothing like it! Streaming threw the baby out with the bathwater on that one...

    I appreciate Nuno emphasizing that a solo has to service the song, i.e. IT NEEDS TO (ought to) EXIST WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE SONG IT IS A PART OF. Such a solid example/tribute to his musical sense; we can all cite tunes having a "cool" solo but comes across as ego-driven and results in a disjointed product. Can't wait for June 9!

    Nuno just doing what Nuno does - great riffs and kick ass solos! I think people are hungry for, and appreciative of, good guitar solos as part of a rock song again. Solos constructed over key changes, breaks, syncopated parts with the rhythm section, and a crescendo are just an integral part of an awesome song in my humble opinion. 🤘😎

    Great interview, but that was not the 5150 guitar that was recently auctioned for $4 million. That was the Hot For Teacher guitar, which was just a back up guitar used rarely on tour and was featured in the Hot For Teacher video (but not used to record the song- that was a 58 Flying V). The 5150 guitar belongs to Wolfgang now and would never be put up for auction. If a back up guitar that EVH gave away to Alex’s drum tech got $4 million then imagine how much the 5150 guitar could fetch at auction since it was his primary guitar from 1984 to 1990.

    Fantastic interview. There is a fine art to conducting an interview with space for answer and also leading for more information if the interviewee is hesitant. You did an outstanding job!

    A solo used to be a "song within a song" as he says. It makes an instrumental break or solo even more influencial in my opinion.
