    I was going to make a video of the R7 and the 200-800, but you said everything I was going to say! lol. Great photos too. I got mine in Feb, and have taken a good amount of photos of migratory birds here in western Canada. I don’t have an issue with F9 or higher ISO. With modern cameras and software, I wouldn’t hesitate to blow up photos that were 6400 ISO on the R7. As for sharpness, if was to say the L lenses I’ve used on the R7 are 10 out of 10 for IQ, I think at best this lens can produce easily 9 out of 10 IQ at times. I personally can’t stand the trend of zooming into 200% just to find the flaws, or compare to a more expensive lens (100-500 for example). On my larger monitor that’s beyond A1 size anyway. The only issues I’ve had is shooting towards the sun low in the sky, and a bird backlit. Either it doesn’t always want to focus, and in some cases I get a “hazy” halo white effect. In all other conditions I’ve actually been very happy with the results. Again, great honest review.

    I've just looked at the pricing over there for the 200-800.. wow. Backside of the world here in Australia and 1/3rd less. We normally get ripped for everything. Nice video.

    Thanks for the nice video. I also changed/upgraded from Sigma 150-600 to Canon 200-800. Have had no issues so far because of canon being F9. Though low aperture is a challenge in low light specially early morning and late evening but I have paired it with canon r3, which has fantastic performance at high ISO. Also, if you have a camera body with "in body stabilisation" then it can do wonders because that allows to shoot at low shutter speed (provide that subject is not moving very fast). Sigma was not very accurate with auto focus but that's not the case with canon 200-800.

      Yeah I’ve taken sharp shots at 1/100 of a second at 800mm. Just got to fire off enough shots lol

    I find the biggest problem is focussing in flat light, it hunts too much. Sharpness is fine, I have done some YT videos, and for the most part things niggle, the Canon 100-400Lii was only marginally better than my Sigma 50-500. I bought the 200-800 online mainly so I have an RF long lens [other is 24-240]. I don't know where in UK you were getting Hoopoes and bee-eaters, I didn't any in Spain recently, too hot, too dry, they probably went north.

    Thank you for the excellent and informative video about the new Canon 200-800mm lens. I found it very helpful as I currently use a Canon 500mm F4 and a Tamron 150-600 G2 with my R6 bodies. While the prime lens performs wonderfully, I've been struggling with autofocus issues on the Tamron.
    I'm considering the 200-800mm lens to avoid further frustration with the Tamron's autofocus. In Finland, most of the time it's dim, and winters are particularly challenging. The 200-800mm might pose issues in that regard. I also really appreciate the 150mm focal length of the Tamron for incorporating landscapes into my wildlife photography, especially when capturing mammals. I will need to test the 200-800mm before making a purchase decision. Thanks again for the great video!

      @@reliikki glad it gave you some info. I will say you will definitely struggle in low light with the 200-800. I have only had it during the brightest part of the year, so am yet to experience the dark of winter with it.

    Nice review mate. I think you've got a killer combo with the R7 and that lense. Do you find the high f stop restrictive at all at 800mm?

    • @stormcabbirds
      @stormcabbirds  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The F9 isn’t that restrictive. Like I said in the video, I used to keep my 600mm at F8 as that was a good level of sharpness. So if you put this at 600mm, you get F8 back. Maybe when winter hits and darker days, I will notice it being a problem.

      As far as I know you’re fine if it’s for personal use. Years ago someone in family who lived in the US, brought a camera over as a gift for someone. Customs assumes it’s for resale unless you can show proof it’s your personal camera. They asked them to turn it on, they didn’t know how, so had to pay the import tax.

    I have the Sigma 150-600C adapted to a R6 (now R62) and have been waiting to sell it until the 200-800 finally becomes available here. I just shoot stills. Sounds maybe I should save the money????? Just curious.

    • @stormcabbirds
      @stormcabbirds  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re happy with results of your stills then I wouldn’t bother. I was actually surprised how little a difference 600-800mm was. Especially for £2300. I got it for £1600, which ade it an easier decision. The video is far better on the 200-800. It holds focus better, and the IS is pretty much silent. Very noisy on the Sigma
