Had squid rings in Crete for the first day of a holiday there they were so good I had them for a shared starter with the wife every night. Despite them being good the batter was on the thin side. Tried to replicate this at home with a shop bought Tempura batter mix it was crap. Yours looks nice and thick and crunchy so now I know how to make it from your excellent instructions, I will be making my own, only problem is the squid rings are frozen from the Supermarket, still its better than not having them at all. Thanks as always for posting.
Had never heard of sweet chili sauce until you made abalone with it. Now I've gone through 6 bottles in 6 months. Always learn new things. Great video as always.
Hi,I like to stuff them whole with cooked rice, herbs ,garlic, the finely chopped tentacles, then slow simmered in a herby chopped tin or or fresh chopped tomato sauce, very healthy. Best of luck I enjoy your vids very informative and laid back. Tight lines.

Slay a bunch of the big Humboldt squid off coast of San Diego over the years. We have ink wars with them!! Had one come out of water when leaning over rail and go after my head. Lot of fun and tastey! Seen them up to 80 to 90lbs! Great job!

Love you're channel by the way. Your night forages with Sam are brilliant. Been following Troj on the other side of Guernsey for a while too. I’ve never heard of egg in tempura batter but I c it works. Good job Jay , that big squid was the biggest I’ve seen on any TH-cam channel.👍🏻 looks like a nice meal for you.
The Japanese tempura batter consists all-all-purpose flour, egg and ice-cold water. (The cold water makes tempura very light.) The deep-fried panko squid rings are also good.
Nice work on the cuttlefish trap! As far as I’m concerned the squid can remain in the water. Not a fan of eating them. I’m glad that you and Sam enjoy them. Those conger eels are pesky. Do you ever catch octopus? Be well!
Next time try tossing your squid rings in flour before battering you will find they will be better than they are all ready are smash bit of praprika in ya batter to we used to serve them in the Dorchester hotel many years ago mate

Very simple recipe, but the end result looked very tasty. Jay you always seen to catch when others struggle, do you put this down to luck, technique, patience, persistence, knowing your quarry. Whatever it is, you sure do come up with some good videos. Tight Lines

you ever fry up the tentacles, or always use it for bait? I love the tentacles as much as I do rings. I like to add just a slight amount of sugar to the batter as well, it goes great with the sea flavor.
Looks good. but s professional Asian chef may I suggest that next time that you use ice cold water AND your batter was way to thick. If you use the cold water (even with ice in it to be sure and the batter about 1/3 the thickness you used you will get the true think crispy shell on the product/ THE MOST IMPORTANT thing is the ice cold water and then right into the oil. Because the water is so cold it will make the batter puff up much more quickly and give you a lighter finish. Keep up the good work

Best conditions are clear water and big tides but when the squid are in you can usally pick one or 2 up
