To be fair, if they hadn't built up such bad will with the new games then the "Awesome classic releases might take away from modern sales." idea wouldn't be a worry. Also, I personally really love the idea of keeping every Pokémon I care about and grow attached to. If they don't allow me to transfer up a Shiny Rattata I find and I have to just delete it for a new file then it's a No Purchase from me.
Dude, it’s not a worry anyway? Just why release a port for next to nothing when you can revamp the game and sell it for full price. There isn’t as bad a reputation as you think.
@@mrbubbles6468 revamping would probably take more effort. It's very likely we're getting gen 5 remakes and so on so fourth leaving gen 2 out of the picture. The older gameboy games will likely return once they shut bank down.
I think the idea of "classic games take away sales from modern games" is probably also a thing Nintendo believes in, which is why they use the NSO releases as filler.
Pokémon games still sell extremely well, like the drop in quality hasn’t really effected them at all. Sw/Sh and S/V are both in the top 10 selling switch games of the consoles lifespan, also Lets Go, BD/SP, and Legends are all in the top 15.
As a consumer, if companies don't provide the service or products you want, there is no qualm to be had to sail the high seas. Do it. It's great. You can make those Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games look crazy good on an emulator with integer scale and good LCD shaders. Your phone can easily do it, you don't need a dedicated device to do this. Get yourself a bluetooth controller (which you already probably have as well), and off you go.
In fairness, BDSP was likely not meant to be a thing. They were pretty slap-dashed together because more time was going to be needed for Legends Arceus, but it does still run back to the point that the remakes were meant to be a holiday release to make sure they could get money from that big rush of sales. That said I don't actually think retro games rereleased on Switch would even hurt modern sales. The Virtual Console releases of Gen 1 and 2 sold relatively well for what they were but nowhere near the sales of the actual 3DS mainline titles. I *would* like RBY and GSC on NSO though, specifically because it's been shown you can connect them to Stadium on NSO through unofficial means and it would be great to have that connectivity again.
I wouldn't even buy the current generation, the last one was Sword and I feel even that was better than that thing now. I don't like digital games but I would buy the older Pokémon games without a doubt. So, it wouldn't even not hurt the sales it would generate new sales. The current gen already hurts itself imo.
They could have slapped together a 3 game "collection" with 3 versions inside: Red/Gold/Ruby, Blue/Silver/Sapphire, Yellow/Crystal/Emerald released it physical for 60 bucks each and they would have tremendously outsold bdsp for a fraction of the work while bringing something "new" to the fans as we still haven't had a port of the gba tittles.
I’m glad you made this video, we were talking about this during your livestream chat and it really puts into perspective Nintendo’s current meta and how the OG Pokémon fans should move forward instead of hoping Nintendo gives us what we want. As long as they don’t start copyrighting emulated games, there shouldn’t be a big issue. We just need to make it more easily accessible and convenient to play classic games.
You should move foward. Stop asking for remakes of your childhood. It’s literally because of OG fans wanting nothing but that Gen 5 undersold and was hated which directly led to every issues you have now. And despite that the only isdue people bring up is BDSP, which was, again, something you asked for. We could do with realising what we are asking for has brought nothing good
I believe they are saving it for the 30th anniversary. That would be the best way to give us a master collection of most, if not all of the hand held games that currently are not accessible in the Switch. And it would give them time to plan for the compatibility of the master collection of the old games with Pokémon Home and other potential Pokémon projects they might be working on for the Switch 2.
I mean, DPPT EShop release that's sold for like 5 million copies and sold for 15-20 bucks each, or two brand new games that's sold for 30 million copies in total for 60 bucks each It's just too simple to answer this question Look up VC releases of RBGY and GSC if you think that I'm underestimating things
DPPT was already playable on the 3DS, so tbf, was kinda a stupid decision to release it on the ESHop though if you look at BDSP instead, and how much they sold despite being bad remakes, we can only assume how it would sell if they made it good games >.>
It’s wild to me that they put the Stadium games on there. Those games were designed around the assumption that you’d be using your RBY and GSC Pokémon. There’s really no point to them being on there, besides the mini games.
I mean, transferring Pokémon from older games to Pokémon Home isn’t impossible. We could transfer Pokémon from the Gen 1/2 games to Pokémon Bank back in the day.
@@mrbubbles6468 They just shut down 3DS online, So unless you already had a 3ds with Pokemon bank downloaded you can no longer do that without hacking the 3ds and downloading it off a program that is illegal.

@@alucard8433 Read the original comment, "I mean, transferring Pokémon from older games to Pokémon Home isn’t impossible." using pokemon bank is not illegal, nintendo is still supporting transfers from bank to GO.
My cope is that they're waiting as long as possible to release them on the eShop, that way they maximize profits. If they release them too early, people will be busy with those and take away attention/sales from the mainline games. However, the way they released them on 3DS was Gen 1 eight months before the switch was announced, and then Gen 2 six months after it had launched. They're banking that the majority of people that'll buy it are the hardcore fans that'll buy it regardless of when they release it (which would probably be right). With 2024 being late into the switch's lifespan and all of the Scarlet and Violet DLC being finished, I think this coming Presents is a great time to announce them coming to either eShop or NSO over the next year or so.
And I'm fine with that. Rewind, while handy for farming/grinding and getting out of impossible situations, is fairly pointless if you save before progressing, after a tough fight or after getting a coveted item. I save lots- and often, so I don't ever see the need to use that kind of feature.
I feel like at the very least they could add gen 1 and maybe gen 2 games. It could be a way to reinvigorate interest in the series and provide a simple way for new generations to experience the games. Plus, people could trade and battle without having to buy a link cable.
@@mrbubbles6468 remakes shouldn’t exist solely as a way to play the game on a newer console. They need a purpose. Besides, they wouldn’t be making anything. It would probably take like two seconds to port Pokémon red and blue on NSO
yeah, the only real problem is with gen 3, since GBA link cable is too annoying: it requires constant connection, if the transmission fails it stops everything. Bad internet connections would make link battles and trading very annoying and tedious, so i understand why they aren't bringing gen 3
The optimist in me hopes that they’re waiting to announce them for the Switch 2. The realist in me knows they haven’t and they won’t because money from new, rushed, soulless remakes is what makes more money.
I mean, the fans asked for those ‘souless’ remakes. And the only example of that is BDSP and we are only saying they lack soul due to bugs. Not because they actually lack soul.
i hope they make it so you can actually battle wild pokemon instead of playing a dumb minigame but i doubt pokemon company would do that, it literally has let's GO in the name GO as in pokemon GO, pokemon let's go games are just cashing on pokemon go players who think Niantic made pokemon or are annoying ass gen onner's who hate everything that isn't kanto
Great conversation here. It really worries me that they've begun signaling to users that Transporter and Bank are invetiably going to be discontinued applications. I fear sooner than later. They are only thing keeping us connected to the Nintendo DS era (including Virutal Console), and by greater extension, the GBA+Gamecube era via Pal Park and other methods. It's annoying to think that without new virtual ports, it will be impossible to source a HOME living dex from the original Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. Even though old hardware has shown us that it's possible, I sadly can't see them being bother to both give us back these games and make them HOME compatible.
It is a really funny mental image of gamefreak being so insecure about their current games that they have to strongarm people into playing them over the old ones
My theory is that Nintendo will eventually do a remake of these games for the Switch 2 whenever it comes out probably around the holidays and would probably throw Pokemon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness into the mix, which honestly sounds like the most Nintendo thing to do.
They could be saving them for 30th anni like they did for the 20th on 3DS, but also Nintendo hasn’t treated their eshop the same. Old games are relegated to NSO, while the eshop gets remakes and remasters and bundle collections but I can’t think of just an old title on its own being resold, so the Switch’s treatment of old games has changed. And with how underwhelmingly profitable old games are when made legally available, I dont think Nintendo feels any warrant to push them out faster. They’d be nice as a consumer even if I still own my old cartridges and a DS to play them on, but from the business side, they probably think its better served as a celebration release than just an addition to the market.
the thing is though, without the ability to import your own pokemon into Stadium 1 & 2 on Switch..you're stuck with rentals that aren't really worth it
It this point I’d be more excited for ports of the old games more so than the new games or remakes themselves. I do wonder how much work adding a trading system (preferably Gen 6’s system) and Pokémon Home compatibility would be.
One thing is that even tho the pokemon ip is shared by the 3 companies, nintendo is a big share holder of both gamefreak and creatures inc, so if they really wanted they could add them to nso at any time
Because gamefreak has been making terrible pokemon games for a while now. If they rerelease the old games, more people would play them and prefer them over the new games. This means that if gamefreak released another terrible pokemon game after porting over the old good games, people's taste would be accustomed to a level higher than the slop gamefreak pushes onto shelves. A lot of people may still buy it, but the reviews would be so terrible that they would be forced to put work and effort into their games.
It's simpler than that - I'm not paying $300 for a Switch to start Pokemon Green all over again, when my green Game Boy Pocket fits in my pocket and still plays my original game with the original save!
Red/Blue/Yellow were released on 3DS eshop on their 20th anniversary. I could see them getting a release on their 30th anniversary on Switch. That would be 2026. Timing is everything for Nintendo/GameFreak. They dont just throw their Games on NSO for fast money. They wait for the perfect Timing.
RIGHT!I had it then I tried it was gone off my switch went to see if I could re buy it on the eshop and well let’s just say I was very disappointed lol
As much as I myself hate Gamefreak I wouldn't say their recent products come from laziness, especially from the developers. For all we know it could be the exact opposite and the developers are overworked, underpayed, and understaffed. The developers have passion as seen by the good thats in Scarlet and Violet. They just have little to no time to make the games they wanna make because the people on top just want more and more money. It's much less laziness, and more just greed unfortunately :( I'm really hoping the developers are given time to finish ZA because ScaVio could've been special games but we were robbed of that opportunity. The fans aren't the only people getting robbed of amazing games, the developers are too, think about all these people working on a game for 2 whole years. 2 years of pouring your heart and soul into this humongous open world Pokemon project only for them to not be able to finish it because their boss needs a 3rd yacht. It's horrible. Amazing video btw, great job!! :D
I’m not a huge fan of emulation, so I’m glad I already have a game from most of the regions. I just bought an authentic copy of Emerald yesterday. I’m now just missing gen 1, 2, and 4.
2 or 3 years ago, I scowered ebay and eventually got an authentic copy of every mainline Pokemon game(both/all versions of each gen) going back to Pokemon Red/Blue all the way up to UltraSun/UltraMoon. They weren't cheap even a few years ago but nowadays half of them are nearly expensive as a new AAA title and last time I check Black/White were the price of 2x AAA games. I got all their respective consoles too(the ones I was missing anyways) got flash chips or modded some of the systems, ripped the roms and store them on my server for emulation.
@@cloudwalker9572 Yeah, I was in my local used media shop and found a copy of Ruby I think that was going for like 90 bucks. Thank god I still have my Emerald.
What if we end up getting an ultimate pokemon retro collection from Game Freak for one of their anniversaries or something. A collection that would have all of the old games up to ds and has a monthly/annual subscription. This would solve the rewind and glitch problems if handled correctly, plus they could have compatibility with home if they wanted to.
I imagine they're holding out to make Legacy collections. You could probably split them into two, one that has Gens 1-3, making a total of 11-12 games if they include the third games like Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald, and maybe throw in a translated version of Green. And Collection 2 including Gens 4-5 for a total of 9 games. You could do what the Battle Network collection(s) did and allow players within those collections to battle each other, and trade Pokémon between them. And of course have save data and Pokémon Tradeable internally between the two collections. Hell, reimplement all the events like said Battle Network Collection did. That'd probably make them a fair bit of money and to avoid exploits for Pokémon home by just having a sort of closed eco system for those collections.
Nintendo absolutely hates that some fans cling to their old games. They made so many decisions to slow gameplay in Smash Bros. Brawl specifically to hinder a competitive tournament scene, even as Melee's scene continued to grow. Rather than associate with the group rabidly encouraging people to play a slightly older game, they spent years trying to stifle the sentiment of that group entirely. They did let up eventually, but that was a very long time coming. Considering the amount of bad blood between some high-level players and the accusations against a lot of notable figures in that community, though, I have to admit that minimizing their involvement may have been a smart strategy. As many times as I've thought they were "anti-fan", each of those decisions have probably been good for their bottom line in the end.
They made Smash Bros Brawl slow on purpose: Because of worse tech (Smash Brawl runs on the GPU of Wii, while "Smash Bros Melee" does not run on the GPU of the gamecube, nearly NO game of gamecube uses the slow GPU! It´s a small secret of gamecube). And this is also the reason why it´s MUCH EASIER to emulae Smash Bros Brawl (because modern GPUs can easily emulate Wii`s GPU!), than it is to accurately emulate Smash Bros Melee! Especially when you want to play it in Multiplayer (many controllers at once).
Darn, I thought Nintendo owned Game Freak. To bad, then they couldn’t be so malicious. Be careful, never trust a corporation. They do not have your best interest in mind. A good thing for younger gamers to learn.
I used to think I wanted a remake of Black & White, but I got stuck thinking about how on earth they could improve the games outside of making even more fluid sprites and remodelling the 3D elements in the game. I just don't think turning it fully 3D would do the games justice, especially with the beautiful sprite work. So instead, I would much rather they made a Black 3 & White 3. Let you pick from all 4 protagonists, and age them up a bit to show how the time has passed. And they can keep all of the gym leaders! Depending on the version, you start at either end of the Unova region and meet in the middle. Each one has unique gyms from the past. The version exclusives can be tied to the gym progress as well! Then the post game is tackling the remaining 8 gyms. That's when they reveal that they scale their teams based on how many badges you already had. But as you're a champion, they can really flex their stuff! You could even get invited back for rematches against the gyms you've already beaten and see how they've evolved, and get a taste of how the other version played. But being the champion isn't the main point of the game. That's just a stepping stone on your way to save the world and solve puzzles along the way. Maybe the champion you face isn't your rival this time, but a scout for the villainous team? Who knows. But that's sort of the type of game I'd want. Gen 5 was incredible, but it suffered from the backlash of D&P. Nintendo even apologised in an interview ahead of HGSS. I'm worried that GF can't successfully port their legacy games without them running poorly. Hell, they can't even get the current ones working, let alone older ones that used custom hardware...
Makes sense. All corporations want to make the most money possible at the end of the day. Being cheap means you don’t lose money and being greedy means you get more money. Not the most morally pure combo, but it sure helps maximise profits!
Its crazy that they made such an amazing game based on gen 4 (legends arceus) and followed it upon a terrible remake of dp, not platinum, but dp which is awful since platinum fixed all the issues in dp. And bdsp kept most of those issues
I think one major reason is that TPC doesn't want to share money with NSO. I think the genious play is to have a separate app for Pokemon games that you can access with a Home subscription. This would likely boost Home subs massivly, meaning more money for them alone. Then they could also have the app work the way they want (like not allowing rewinding).
Good video and interesing points but what about the Casino ? During the 4th generation a topic around game addiction in video games appeared in the European Union, it affected Pokémon in the way that while Diamond/Pearl had an operational casino, Platinium did not and HeartGold/SoulSilver got the Voltorb Flip game (at least in Europe). After this no more functional Casino in Pokémon games anymore... Maybe it has an impact as why we did not see these games (during the release on 3DS Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver and Cristal got a Pegi number higher than usual).
Gen 3 is still pretty good, even compared to current gen and the formula for main games is still really similar with recent new features being poorly done. This make them direct competition to the newer games (compare Platinum to BDSP) and I think that's why they're not available. The games not being available gives Nintendo/Game Freak more room to release games and make profit.
You should really be comparing BDSP to DP, not Platinum. Platinum was not the remake fsns asked for. What fans actuslly wanted was a Legends esc game set in Sinnoh with all the benefits of Platinum. Which we did in fact get.
I have my DS and Pokémon games from GBA but i want to play on Switch i love the rewind feature and save states and the online would be great to trade Pokémons and use Pokémon Home
Honestly as someone who just started playing Pokemon again 8 months ago with S/V (last game i played was crystal) - I was absolutely appalled to find out that all of the older games are still $60 each and even the DLC is not discounted, not even any bundle deals at all. That told me all I needed to know about the pokemon company.
It's probably that they just want to sell the games as near full-price separate titles, but Nintendo is probably wanting to throw them on NSO. It may also be that they want to cut off the route of creating hacked Pokemon in the older generations and transferring forward to bypass the extra security they've been adding to keep hacked Pokemon out of newer generations. The consistent stream of cloned legendaries coming in from Gen 1-7 is probably something they really want to stop even if they aren't sure how.
They have proven time after time they do not care about hacked mons, Multiple World Champions have used hacked teams and been proven to be hacked and they did nothing to punish them so i highly doubt that is the reason.
Man, if Nintendo put a SINGLE Pokemon game (like Fire Red) on the Switch, a ton of new and old players would buy the Switch just to play it. Some of those players who might never buy a Switch just to play the new games.
Descent theory but I have doubts. The previous console that supported Pokémon was the 3ds which gave us access to gen 1 and 2. On top of backwards compatibility with the DS games. I don’t doubt Gamefreak being lazy and there’s no way in hell they’re release them on NSO. But I doubt they’re worried having access to the classic games will hurt their overall revenue. Pokémon is the biggest money maker of all time. And that’s not just games, we’re talking anime, toys, spin offs. Whatever their reason is I doubt they think gen 10 or a potential gen 5 remake will undersell in anyway. They need more content in general, more Pokémon designs to market with, more everything.
Whenever halo infinite came out I played it a ton and it wasn’t amazing but I still had some fun. Then they announced that the halo reach servers were going down so I played that for a week. The fun I had going back to that was immeasurable and after it went down I couldn’t go back to halo infinite. This is why Nintendo won’t let us play the older pokemon games.
At this point I’m surprised Pokèmon & GameFreak themselves hasn’t created their own streaming service for their own games yet. I would love to see them release the original ROMs updated for the newer hardware adding things like vibrant color to the first few generations and clean up the graphics for all of the pre-Switch games. I mean right now they can fit all pre-Switch main series games in just under 18 GB (even less if you take out games that have been remade and technically counted twice) which is just a little over half the storage capacity of a Switch cartridge leaving them roughly 14 GB to play around with and add quality of life upgrades to the games.
The Gen 1 and 2 games on 3DS virtual console didn’t take away from the sales of Gen 7 games, but the Gen 7 games were way better than the Switch games so…
I would prefer a collection of every game from Gens 1-5. They can even sell it at full price if they want. Honestly, given the current Pokemon Go situation, a Pokemon collection would be the only new Pokemon thing I would buy until something changes.
You have a point, but look at it this way they still can come out with them on switch. The pokemon home has quest to have pokemon from older games and now with ds servers shut down only way we could complete it is modding or forced to buy them again on switch
I think right now now is the perfect time to put the games on the switch since legends z-a is not releasing until 2025 and I don't thing we are gonna get anything new this year

@@mrbubbles6468 🤓
The 3DS versions of Gen 1&2 had the savestates and rewind disabled so that could absolutely do it the save way on the switch.
I *would* like RBY and GSC on NSO though, specifically because it's been shown you can connect them to Stadium on NSO through unofficial means and it would be great to have that connectivity again.
yes.

That would be the best way to give us a master collection of most, if not all of the hand held games that currently are not accessible in the Switch. And it would give them time to plan for the compatibility of the master collection of the old games with Pokémon Home and other potential Pokémon projects they might be working on for the Switch 2.
Well, time to emulate!
Steam deck with Emudeck runs games better than the official hardware anyways
Also, the 3DS pokemon ports don't have rewind or save states, and that fixes the issue with exploitation.

Gamefreak hates us. That's why.
I've been playing old school Pokemon games in the Delta app. They play so well and it's fun goin back in time
I think it would be very simple to make it work by disabling rewind and only allowing you to save manually
Make them compatible with the emulator in the stadium games too. And left players transfer their parties in.
They did. It was Lets Go. It worked just fine at doing that as well.
Fact is games take time to make

You're right. It's because, well, if they release the first 3 generations on NSO, those would be the *best* switch pokemon games.

I never thought of that... Makes a whole lot of sense 😢
My theory is Game Freak/ILCA can't figure out how to make them compatible with Pokémon Home
It's much less laziness, and more just greed unfortunately :(
I'm really hoping the developers are given time to finish ZA because ScaVio could've been special games but we were robbed of that opportunity.

I recently bought a gba and pokemon red in ebay, its so pricey but worth it. I should have kept my consoles and games when i was younger.
As many times as I've thought they were "anti-fan", each of those decisions have probably been good for their bottom line in the end.
very true
Vimms lair is OP lol
this aged poorly

I swear, all corporations are Mr. Krabs. Cheap and greedy, the number one worst combination *EVER.*
Nintendo deaerves another Wii U era. Too much success is bad for the company culture. They need to stop being so money hungry and be more humble.
It's crazy they're so greedy with one of the most profitable ips of all time. Art really is dead.
Maybe they don’t want everyone else to realize how trash modern Pokémon games are in comparison.
I'm just here remembering playing Super Metroid and Pokemon gold on a PSP 12 years ago.
I’m glad for emulation
Gen 3 is still pretty good, even compared to current gen and the formula for main games is still really similar with recent new features being poorly done.
This make them direct competition to the newer games (compare Platinum to BDSP) and I think that's why they're not available.
The games not being available gives Nintendo/Game Freak more room to release games and make profit.
You should really be comparing BDSP to DP, not Platinum. Platinum was not the remake fsns asked for.
What fans actuslly wanted was a Legends esc game set in Sinnoh with all the benefits of Platinum. Which we did in fact get.
I just started playing the fan games and other than keeping some bizarre choices from the original games, I am having a blast with them.

It's fine. I'll just keep playing my R36s with every good pokemon title under the sun.
I would throw so much money at classic Pokémon games on the switch
I'm sure they are launching old games again on the Switch 2 to force people into buying their new console.
That's a good point, and I hate that. Hopefully, they'll put pokemon gba on switch 2 and same with the dbz legacy of goku 1/2 and other dbz games
