why tho? im not knocking cheerleaders or anything but it's not like they're sacrificing themselves to do some great service. they're voluntarily doing something that's unnecessary and extracurricular. in fact i gotta say it's kind of objectifying, and is leaning toward the creepy side of American culture where underage girls are publicly sexualized and everyone just acts like it's totally normal (beauty pageants , swimsuit contests , etc.) not that that's all it is , their coriography and stuff is impressive by any standards. i do have respect for cheerleaders , but it's the respect that i have for them as people. as for the sport itself i don't think it's very commendable at all tbh , and this video kind of speaks for that

As a former varsity cheerleader, trust is a big deal in stunt groups. Also, if you don’t get along with a member of your stunt group, change groups. I had a girl deliberately drop our flier because they had an argument before practice.

The group I was with when i was a flyer all hated me and as far as i am aware i didn't do or say anything to them
I quit cheer for the fact that they kept tossing me in angles and blamed me all the time for moving in the air. I also quit because my grades where bad.
I also had a time where I was in front of a flyer and she deliberately kick me in the face all the time and she was a hug bully to just me. Her and I went to school and I never once talked to her and she hated me.

@Samm & Misty I'm aware, but also if I got hurt very badly I would have given ALL medical bills to those girls. If they killed me, they would have been responsible. Yes, I'm glad I quit because if I didn't I would have never meet the friends I have now.
I look at that time as a "past that shouldn't have happened" I'm completely over it honestly.

I was a cheerleader all through junior high school and it was a great experience. However, we weren’t allowed or experienced enough to do dangerous stunts. Then, in high school, I was a gymnast where I fell off the uneven bars during a routine which messed up my right knee for life. 4 surgeries later, my knee is weaker than ever and now I’m facing a knee replacement surgery‼️

current cheerleader over here, let me just say that the bases that let the flyers fall to the ground definitely need to be prohibited from stunting, it is pretty the bases job to follow the flyer wherever she travels. But sometimes it isnt always the bases fault, sometimes the flyers need to squeeze or keep their legs together when coming down, which causes them to feel heavier.
To bases: Please follow your flyer and communicate with your pod
To flyers: Please lock your legs and keep them together when the bases go the catch you in a cradle AND DONT CLOSE YOUR EYES

I googled out of curiosity and found this:
In 1898, U of M (University of Minnesota) was on a losing streak, and a medical student named Johnny Campbell assembled a group to energize the team and the crowd. Johnny picked up a megaphone and rallied the team to victory with the first organized cheer: “Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-U-Mah! Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity! Varsity! Minn-e-so-tah!"
U of M added women cheerleaders in 1923, and acrobatics and tumbling started being added to routines. When college-age men went off to serve in WWII, women started making up more of the squads. 1948 was when the first cheerleading camp was held and the pom-pon and the "spirit stick" were invented!

Just stick to dance routines and stuff where you stay grounded or stuff you can do on your own. The throws and pyramids don't really bring anywhere near enough to the table to warrant the risks.

That’s not even cheer anymore. That’s literally just dancing. And if it’s just that we might as just let it be called dance. Stunts are what make people excited about cheer. Not just sitting there and dancing like you want them to do. What I’m trying to say is, mind your business. People get hurt or killed regardless of what they do. How often do bad injuries happen? My 13 year old daughter is trying out for cheer next month because she wants to learn all of the flips, aerials and jumps that dance school doesn’t teach and despite always being told not to do it she’s been attempting to learn it herself at home but after seeing this I’m really feeling nervous about it

    • @kaitlinfaulkner4501
      @kaitlinfaulkner4501 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@thefinalhashiraangrysag415 It depends... You tend to see more injuries in club style cheer because it’s more intense. But with school cheer, there is usually less injuries. Also, it depends on the child. I have a connective tissue problem which caused me to get injured easier than a lot of the other girls.... Most common injuries are ankles. And heads. But as long as they have a good coach and equipment, she should be ok!! If she wants to do it, don’t stop her. I grew up in the sport and I don’t know who I would be without it. It teaches kids how to work as a team and to commit to things and holds them accountable. It helped me grow tons! It’s a good sport, I miss it every day!

    • @Digitalhunny

Yes!! This video is extremely important. Especially, for folks that hike, camp, hunt, fish or new living in wooded areas. Of course during the rutting season is the most dangerous, but its not the only time to practice safety. Lots of folks _seem_ to think, "Oh look it's Bambi! It's so sweet & so harmless. Bambi would _never_ hurt _me._" Than start _approaching_ that wild animal trying th o feed it or pet it, in front of their kids, & end up mauled or worse dead! *sigh

A girl I knew in HS got into a cheer coaching gig after her college days (early 1990's). She got herself into some legal hot water, when a team she was working with dropped a girl. I can't remember all the details, but the main problems were these girls were too young to be throwing each other up in the air, and the coaches weren't certified. Allegations were made that the parents involved were trying to one-up other cheerleading teams. Luckily the girl who was dropped only suffered minor injuries and wasn't paralyzed. The court case was in the ATL news for quite a while.

I have trust issues. I was on a cheer team for three months and the girls were so mean that i didnt trust them to catch flyers. My flyer kept falling on me to the point where i sprained my wrist pretty badly and then the coach forced me to be the main base with a sprained wrist. It was deadly to have me do that because i could not support the flyers weight. She already weighed more then me and was my height, then she had her full weight on my sprained wrist. The coach would make us stunt for three hours straight with no breaks. Shed make us stunt outside when it was freezing and raining. She made us stunt when it dark in the gym for performances. I was so paranoid about accidentally dropping my base that i gave the sport up. That with the fact that the team wouldnt speak to me. Like at lunch theyd ask me to go get them some water and i came back and they had ditched me. The coach made me sit out during the performances bc of my grades but let everyone who was failing participate. So id be sitting by myself infront of the whole school, while my team cheered. The coach then announced in front of everyone that she was benching me for playing with an injury when i just told her my wrist was sprained. She also put my mom on speakerphone in front of her class she taught and mocked her in front of the students. She had turned the whole team against me, 18 year old seniors and a grown up when i was just barely 14. It didnt help that i was only one of the two black girls on the team so i was already uncomfortable with standing out. I found out my best friend had been spreading rumors about me to the team. One of the older girls called me a bitch in front of everyone and another girl told everyone she was going to kick my ass. My best friend stayed friends with these girls and they would go out and take pictures for social media where my best friend gave one of girls my nick name ive had since elementary. As you can imagine i was severely depressed. I tried to become a tumbler so i could stay on the team since there werent many tumblers. I did a i handstand on a trampoline since i didnt know what i was doing i completely dislocated my arm. As im walking around the campus with a dislocated arm the girl on the team who wanted to fight me, would be looking for me, so i had to hide inbetween classes and during lunch. I was bullied by 26 girls on the team and it was my first semester of high school. I also was called racial slurs by classmates and my teachers would only stand behind me when taking exams as they assumed i must be cheating to be in AP classes. I dropped out of that school in the tenth grade due to having my first panic attacks which led dissociation disorder. I am now 27 and agoraphobic. So yeah...

Did they just say cheerleading is a recognized sport by the Olympic committee?! That's so good. I played softball and hated it but played shortstop, and soccer and it was boring and hated it and wasnt very good due to that, then I played basketball and scored the most points on my team two years in a row and then I joined my competitive varsity cheerleading squad at school as a flyer and my good god I have never been so exhausted physically and mentally doing a physical activity in my life...4 hour practices 5 days a week and a 8 hour on saturday. Cardio, tumbling, fear of being tossed 15 feet into the air and someone not catching me..I could go on etc. If anyone thinks it's not a sport try one day on a squad. You will not make it. You will NOT.

I was a substitute cheerleader for a girl that couldn’t make it to some basketball game that was really big at my school at the time. I’ve always been small and petite, so naturally it was immediate decided by my babysitter (who also happened to be the coach) that I would be the one throw into the air. I had ZERO training and never even played sports..I just helped bc she asked me too.
I have all of about an hr to learn the entire routine..so much cramming, mind you I have ZERO rhythm..so I had to learn how to just basically dance as well.
Long story short, when I was thrown into the air, I closed my eyes and kind of..did something I thought was a flip, but as I was coming back down, I felt my legs slip between the arms of my squad mates, and I hit the gym floor tail bone first. It was easily the the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt.
Til this day I’ve never cheerleaded again. I don’t know how I never broke a bone or something. And she begged me not to tell my parents as it was just an accident and I didnt break any bones. Being a kid, I just agreed after she enticed me with a bunch of video games and candy
