    My sons recently caught a 20-pound Channel Cat out of Lake Erie...after watching this video, I somewhat regret not keeping it and running my electric fillet knife through it. I generally don't keep the larger ones due to their age. A 20-lb channel cat is likely to be 20+ yrs old.

    Just learned about using an electric knife today [ would have never thought of it ] and all of a sudden a hundred vids popping up on the subject , just happen to have a brand new one in the drawer might just give it a try if i don`t fear cutting myself. Oh man the size of those fillets ,I have got to get the ole line out.

    Now that's how it's done. Only thing I do differently is cut the belly meat out first. And as you probably know most of the fishy taste comes from getting the gut juice on the meat so I rinse and scrub the meat with my hands until it gets squeaky clean then soak in salt water and rinse again until squeaky and then one more time. Flathead is hands done the best next to walleye and crappie even up to big sizes. Great vid and keep your powder dry and your pantry stocked young man 💪😎🙏 you're going to need it.

    • @TheWaterSwatters
      @TheWaterSwatters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I've never had walleye but would rank flathead right up there with crappie. Lol not sure some of my family would agree! I wash it good too, most of the time I give a soak in the fridge.

    When I get big flatheads I’ll run a rope thru bottom lip and stake em out (if I have the place to do it).I let em swim on that leash couple days work some of the fat off before I clean em I cut the tail off or just slit it real good hang it up n bleed it out hour or so . Takes care of that bloody meat some . I’m a trotliner and jug liner mainly after channels big blues but caught many flatheads. My biggest was 54 on trot line at lake Conroe down north of Houston if you ever get a chance go to Conroe and wet a hook it’s chocked full of cats . I been cat fishing for 53 years in Texas used to hit Texoma quite a bit but been awhile . Good video I’m subscribing to you

      Thanks! My grandpaw and uncle use to stake 'em out on the river when they were running limb lines. One of my favorite stories is when my grandpaw went down and moved a big flathead that was on a knot my uncle bragged couldn't come loose. The way I understand it, it was quite an ordeal when he found that fish gone and thought it pulled the knot loose and swim away lol.

    I ordered two of these based on the reviews. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxqmKabisEv81ul5v7OhvVxxOpt2CJruI- Received them on time and they look good. I really like the handle on these knives as they feel good in my hand. I'm giving them 4 stars on look and feel, but have not had the chance to put them to the test yet. I mostly fish for catfish and can hopefully try them out in the next few days. If they hold an edge throughout a limit of catfish, they'll be worth another star.Update...I used the 9" strong and the 9" fillet on a mess of catfish. I did put a sharpening on these before I started. I want a razor edge to fillet fish but they weren't quite that sharp. The people who gave these knives crappy reviews and said they were sending them back was because they weren't razor sharp. So what, do they not have a knife sharpener?? Good grief! I mean you have to sharpen any knife from time to time.I personally like them and am pleased with them. If you're too lazy to sharpen a knife then hire someone to clean your fish lol.I've never bought a knife in my life that would shave hair right out of the box. Don't be afraid to purchase the knives. They're pretty nice in my opinion.
