I think that side-by-side comparison videos is what the powder coating universe is missing on TH-cam. Just about everyone has already covered how to powder coat. Keep up the good work my friend.
I did a video on a part that I could not get in my over so I shot the Eastwood chrome and cured it with a heat gun. It worked fine. Everyone was upset that I didn't clear it as that was the "correct" method - so I was told. About a week ago I shot Prismatic chrome on wheels and also had Prismatic clear. The Prismatic chrome looked great until I shot it with the Prismatic clear and it dulled it badly. I just shot over the clear mess with chrome again and it looked alright. Stunning how the clear messed it up and it was the same brand. My feeling was the world doesn't know what colour a powder coat is and that chrome is the same thing as clear in make up. These were wheels for a 1957 farm truck so it was kinda ok to meatball it but overall I don't think I'll clear over anything chrome again although I like it over colours sometimes. Nice work and I could not help but watch every second of your test. Thank you. Bobby
When you clear over chrome powder coat it will dull out. All clear powder coat will make it dull out. Chrome powder coat is also not UV stable, so it will look good for a few weeks or a month, but the chrome color will yellow and lose it's color and reflection.
We're going to do some more tests with it first so we can all see how it compares with others, and if it's worthy and then we'll have some more information about it. 👍
Secret chrome for sure. Thanks again for the upload, keep them coming. I would love to see you guys finish that oven sometime maybe put a big 710 performance stencil on the side or the one with the gas mask would look cool too.
Try getting Michelob Ultra aluminum bottles. They don't dent or crease as easily as the cans, and you can put a screw through the cap on a piece of wood and you can unscrew them from the cap to take them of your display wall and then put them back once your done.
Liquipowder claims that they have a product that enables you to add powder coating powder to a liquid to be sprayed with a regular spray gun. Do you think it's possible? And if so...will it do chrome?
Columbia Coatings has the same type of product. It works, but not as well as you would think it does. We've used some with an airbrush but not an actual spray gun. Chrome powder coat it not UV stable, so you would have to put a clear coat over it, and when you do that with chrome powder coat, everyone of them turn silver, so no it would not work with chrome.
Great Video, Thanks! Any chance you can drop the name of the manufacturer of Secret Chrome? Seems as though the inter web is blocking any results to my search.
So.. if you want the chrome, you spray the chrome, but to protect the chrome from oxidizing, you must clear coat it. Then the clear takes away "chrome". Leacing you with a silver grey and not chrome. So whats the point?
We use Powder Junkies Secret Chrome (you can purchase it on our website www.710performance.com/product-page/secret-chrome) and Clear Vision from Prismatic Powders
It a as really hard to tell through the camera, but I really think that each company's powder is formatted to be paired with their base and clears, etc, just my 2 cents. But keep up the videos!!!
@@710performance I found out that the chrome lip on my wheels already had a clear over them an kinda ruined them by trying to buff them. I'd like to get them to match my Benz gold tan color instead of being hyper silver an keep the chrome lip.
I would like to see you spray the different chromes on a flat piece of metal label them And let them sit in the sun and check them once a month for 6 months.
Like you said in your video that TH-cam is flooded with powder coat videos and that they're pretty much all the same. I would like to see you give information that no one else is giving. Like testing but you have to label and show the label with data info like date, time of year and how many hours of 🌞 was exposed. Did they get rained on how much rain was on them?? Rain carries lots of harmful Acis harmful acidic properties in it.. The other thing that I like to see in videos is where the applicator speaks in their video (voice over not during this gives you a chance to speak about things you may have forgot to mention) as their applying powder and explain why they do little circles why they pull back why they go over it and over it again. Not to many people are doing that. This stuff is not easy and people who are teaching how to powder coat are not given all the information. A lot of critical steps being glossed over. Also one thing I really like about your channel is you seem to be real and show when you mess up or or point out your flaws. Keep up the good work.
@@Scubastevetampabay Those are some great ideas, and something that will bring a lot of value to a lot of people. Thank you for your continued support, and continued feedback and what we can do to better the content, then channel and ourselves as powder coaters and business owners. It's greatly appreciated and these are things we're going to start putting to work!
They all looked the same. Did you figure outwhy you were getting black dots? Was it having a chemical reaction, maybe contaminated. Or maybe it needed 2 coats of base for better coverage
@@derrickwebb7230 if you use an acrylic clear it won't silver out as much (any clear but acrylic will make it look like silver not chrome) but with UV stable acrylic clear I know powder coaters who say it will last awhile. I don't do it though. If a customer want's that, I'll just refuse the job.
@@whathetruckk there is a chrome cerakote that you can get, but it might be cheaper to get new wheels. For the chrome cerakote you need a $20k bead polisher to polish them after the cerakote is applied or it won't work correctly.

You really do not want to use chrome powder coat without having some sort of topcoat. It is more of a base coat. And if clear is applied, it is not going to look like chrome. Your best option would be to get it, chrome, plated, or a polished chrome Cerakote

The gel version of Powder Strip aka Rim Strip
