German manufactured, early part of the twentieth century....beautiful restoration as always. A big hug for little Mona, and best wishes to all!
Interesting that it had a Star of David on it.
@@georgejones3526 Agreed....ironic as well. The company's owners may have be Jewish and that this item would pre-date the rise of nazism.
@@dr.skipkazarian5556 Might explain how it got damaged.
In 1900 the six branch star was in wide use
Absolutely beautiful restoration. You have an especially fine touch with these ornate castings. I could tell this was a book press, but I didn't realize it had missing parts. The damaged disc would also have stopped me because I'm not a welder. I think this is a museum quality restoration. Thank you and smiles from the USA.
Thank you many times Pat, after such comments I want to continue on other projects :) Have a nice day :) Radek
I do not think this is a book press - in fact I am almost certain it is not. It is more certainly known as a letter press or lawyers press = used for compressing papers, letters etc.
Ditto, Tom..
USA beautiful workmanship
@@icarus877 Agreed! it was supposed to be an easy to carry press, also to press flowers, light stuff. I find it a pity that it has lost its original function although the job is well done..
@@icarus877 No, it’s definitely a bookbinding press. It can be used for different purposes, but it’s called a bookbinding press because it’s one of the presses used by bookbinders. Letterpress is something completely different, and I don’t know why lawyers would have a press like that, or why anybody would want to compress papers or letters - except bookbinders of course, for binding them.
This is a work of art!
Absolutely stunning restoration of a book press

Compliment from an expert makes me happy twice. Thank you.
omg that brings back so many memories! I grew up in a print shop and used a book press almost everyday, one of my after school jobs was to glue notepads and books together. I really miss those days, I had so much fun working there after school.
Wow, I envy this experience! Thanks Steve :) Radek
So did I!
That was absolutely incredible !!
Thank you so much William :) Radek

Uwaaah! What a beautiful book press. People used to know how to make things that were both lovely and functional, didn't they?
Yes you are right :)
Очередной ШЕДЕВР!👏👏👏. Молодцы.
Спасибо :)
That is quite the most elegant book press I’ve ever seen! At first, I was surprised at the red paint, but I knew you would antique it up a bit before you were done! Beautiful!
Thank you so much Vickie :) Radek
Very sure this is not a book press, it is a letter press. I have approximately 20 presses, some made completely of wood, others are more modern like this pretty standard cast item.
Sometimes I'll watch these and think "I wouldn't of done that like he did", but man, you can't argue with the results. Beautiful work, sir.
I agree, everyone does it the way he likes it :)
What a beautiful tribute on this day of Pesach ... the Star of David is clearly visible, stamped at about 2 cm. of one of the supports of the press.
Beautiful work, by the way.
thank you very much Alejandra :) Radek

Really AMAZING ! I think its one of your finest works and in the top list of all restorations on YT. I really admire your work not only for the quality craftmanship but for the objects you restore ! Must have taken tons of hours ! Wish i could have more free time to make projects like this but my daily work dont allow. Cheers and stay safe !

Thank you William, I'm pleased :) Radek
That was brilliant restoration, I just loved the way you complete missing parts and take it back to its glorious days, I could see a star of David on it and there were some writings too, was it meaningful ?? Keep on with your fine restorations
Thanks Rami , something like: Mustfrschu 17 Elsenotessnr DPR.Moravia Marienthal, but it doesn't make sense :) Radek
The parts I could decipher say “Eisengiesserei Marienthal Moravia”. (Eisengiesserei meaning iron foundry)
A quick check with Wikipedia shows the following:
This should be the German name of the Czech town of Mariánské Údolí, nowadays part of Hlubočky. An ironworks was established here in 1827.
In 1854 an ironmonger by the name of Ignaz Karl Machanek transformed it into a nail factory.
In 1870 this and the “Marienthaler Eisenwerke” (Marienthal ironworks) became part of “Moravia”, a joint stock company. After being part of the German Reich (from 1938?) until the end of World War II the region was returned to the Czech Republic. Following the Velvet Revolution, the ironworks was privatized again and nowadays goes by the name “Mora Moravia a.s.”.
Unfortunately, the English entry isn’t half as extensive as the German one, hence my mediocre attempt at translating the relevant information.
On the other side of the base plate, the number 470 is clearly visible. Maybe a serial number?
As to the Star of David, I’m at a loss. Maybe this was etched because of some kind of customer request?
@@zr550b thank you so much for the very The detailed explanation
star of David?
yes
Marcus:
Star of David or Maguen David (king David's Shield):
A six pointed star, symbol of Jewish people and Israel 🇮🇱 also.
@@aridemedina8770 But back then it was also used in a wider context

Если пересматривать классическое настольное литьё- так оно и должно быть окрашено.
Главные детали и особый декор выделяется яркими красками или тонированием, смотря на общий фон и гамму
