Sorry but using all of those synthetic materials to create the seat and back pretty much destroyed any historical value that this interesting chair had. Chip board, foam and plastic leather!!! 😭
I loved what u did for all the wood pieces 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and it does look so much better than what it did before; but the chip board seat & foam etc isn’t in keeping with the rest of the chair! Having said that, it’s great that you’ve given it more life.
Good work. Not my taste in finish but work welldone. There is a difference between restore and conserve. This is your chair. Will this piece go to a museum? Probably not, but it is conserved for the future the way you wanted it to be. I loved the fact that you restored the old wood instead of making new parts.
But in the video title it says "Restoration of Antique", not "Making an Old Mass Produced Chair Functional Again." And the fact that something was 'mass produced' 120 years ago doesn't make it worthless, it had a unique history, which has now been destroyed.
Whether the intention is resale or hobby: why the bother if the end result is a mash up of antique wood (and antique it is, regardless of its market value at the time) and completely unrelated plastic? I don't know the rules of the antiques market, nor the rules of formal restoration; moreover, every content creators have their style, fair enough. This content though simply feels a bit cheap to me in both intention and execution, compared to others.
An ultimate guide into "How not to treat an antique!!!" When I saw you applying PVA glue for the cracks etc, I knew you were up to no good at all from that point onwards, unfortunately you proved us all right. Also when you didn't bother dealing with [filling with wood dust and [brown/hide] glue putty] into millions of nail and tack holes left behind from reupholstering over the years, I again suspected that there was something sinister awaiting us on the menu for the seat and back-rest - 18mm OSB really, yuck! Choice of fabric & colour was the most distasteful cherry on top for that poor antique had the utter misfortune to endure in her late years. What a shame.
Yes absolutely agree with you. that crappy particle board and plastic... I hate plastic Unfortunately in future we can't find anything valueable when we use these Bs, Building valuable and lasting things is a wealth that will be passed on to future generations. But what we build now will be destroyed after a few years, and unfortunately, no one cares.
Plywood and foam does not replace springs and horse hare, and it should be leather and a proper floral pattern fabric preferably embroidered. but you did ok on the wood. I prefer to spray lacquer giver a finer finish.
Great work, but take some advice. No matter how good the content is, poor music choice can kill a video. The music for this video was the completely wrong choice. Try something more serene/classical. Many viewers watch this type of content for its calming effect.
For all you complaining about how he resorted the chair and the music, you can restore a chair of your own and post it to TH-cam and mute this video, so no one has to read your negativity.
The comments section doesn't exist solely for people who think that everything anyone does on youtube is wonderful. It's a place to give feedback. And the criticisms of this appalling 'restoration' are entirely valid. They give the 'restorer' an opportunity to be objective about his work and hopefully improve it in the future.
I truly am most disappointed in this restoration - you should have done a proper upholstery to this most beautiful chair AND shellac would have been a much beter choice and not varnish
Molle e imbottitura fatta a mano. Distrutta...
And this is how the beauty of an emblematic piece is destroyed. I had never seen a tutorial on how to destroy old pieces.

yeah no, that isn't a restoration just a complete stripdown and rebuild with new parts
@@Bluecolord ... and I didn't even mention the terrible glossy rough varnish on the wood!
It would have deserved a traditional upholstery.
Do you think you should have kept the old horsehair or looked for a new one?

I was interested in your work, however that monotonous music made it impossible for me to concentrate.
If the music bothered you so much why not mute the video?
@@diamondperidot Because then you don't hear the sound of the work .... obviously.
High gloss finish is not a good choice. This beautiful chair deserved better.

You have a light touch when using a rotary tool. I was hesitant to see you use it, but it worked! That wood was really dry. You did a good job.
As always you do a great job with your restorations. I always look forward to your videos. A hug straight from Minas Gerais -Brazil.

Beautiful job!🌷🌷
bert would love this

the finish is a bit rough I would have oiled it and sanded a bit more.
Un trabajo fantástico
Outstanding work 👏👏
Sorry, but you should use natural leather, similar fabric to the original and less shine. This is not a restauration
Maravilloso!!!. Saludos desde Uruguay.
Você e gênio parabéns 👍🌟👏
Wow it came out great. I liked the great details in the work done.
That looks like a very old East Lake chair

Surprised, the wood survived.
Absolutely brilliant best wishes from uk England 👌
Felt like modernization after I saw the glue tbh
not gonna lie we had some comfy chairs apperently for the time being
Very nice restoration
Niestety część miękka czyli tapicerska jest okropna. Natomiast część drewniana wspaniała!

Get rid of that annoying music. It spoilt the whole video for me.

I have restored museum furnitur for years. This is a disaster and the music is crap. BTW I don't to monetize my work in YT.. 😅

I am pretty sure these guys have no some college or university background.
With all respect these are NOT carpenters job.

I watched this without volume on. The sound of sanding AND the music.....no. Too much noise. It distracted from your work
oh, wow that is so amazing....awesome job..
