Murder is incorrect. Aang was a valid, active threat to the Fire Nation military and government. Her actions were entirely legal by customs and law regarding warfare.

One of the best things this ep was the contrast between the parents. Katara's dad loves his kids and was kind and comforting towards them, while Ozai was completely cold and just stiffly talked about how he was "proud" for things his kids had done for him or the fire nation, not because he actually loved them. The writers really knew how to tell a story.
While Hakoda apologized and empathized with his kid, Ozai treated it like it was all Zuko’s fault and it should be expected for him to make him proud
I can't wait for the guys (and girl) to react to "The search" as it reveals so much about what kind of marriage Ozai and Ursa had.
Unfortunately, that didn't last.
Zuko and Azula deserved a father like Hakoda. Unfortunately they got Ozai instead.

Azula is a master manipulator, she of course doesn't know Aang is alive, but she is already set up. And either way she wins: if Aang is alive, than the fault is on Zuko, if he's dead than she's got a pretty big favour with his brother to control him.
either way..she always got upper hand...its really rare to see a character that do think realistic like her..she and soka is the one that use their brain to fight a war...not just total brute strength

Mae Whitman, Katara's voice actress, did an Oscar winning performance here. Easily her best voice work ever.

People get this confused a lot. 1. Toph can sense Earth anywhere, it doesn't have to be considered "ground", she only see things on the ground because they are connected to the Earth. If Toph was in the North or South Pole, where ice is considered "ground" she would really be blind. 2. She can sense the shape and positioning of anything connected to Earth, which is why she's so good at fighting. The boy behind her pointed, he's standing on metal, she sees exactly which direction he pointed then and launches a rock that way.

I really forgot how good this episode was. Katara and Toph are total masters of their elements, Katara's scene with her father and all the parallels between Aang and Zuko. Great stuff

The family from "The Serpent's Pass" appears while Lo and Li give a speech describing what happened in Ba Sing Se. Hope, the baby, is crying as Fire Nation soldiers march through the city to claim it.
Jin appears in the tea shop during the Fire Nation invasion.
At one point Sokka says they had crossed into the Serpent's Pass a few days earlier; later the Fire Nation ship is attacked by the same sea serpent.
There is a scene in which Zuko is feeding the turtle ducks in the Fire Nation palace courtyard, and when Azula arrives, they flee. During one flashback in the episode "Zuko Alone", it is shown that Zuko and his mother used to feed the turtle ducks together and that Azula threw the food at them rather violently, which is why they swam away when they saw her.
This is the second time Aang and his friends passed through the Fire Navy blockade and came to Crescent Island, the first being in "Winter Solstice, Part 2: Avatar Roku".
The episode continues the pattern of the opening scene in a new season taking place on a boat; Book One: Water began on a canoe, while Book Two: Earth started on a Northern Water Tribe bo

Also, when the captain was boarding their ship, the guard said Admiral Chan was on leave at Ember Island which later is known to be the father one of the two guys (Chan and Ruan-Jian) that hosts the party in the episode The Beach. Chan (the teenager) is named after his father, Admiral Chan. When Zuko and the gang enter the party in the beach episode, Chan mentions that his dad is an Admiral so they shouldn't mess up their vacation house.

How things have reversed for Aang and Zuko!
Poor Aang. I can understand how he was feeling when Sokka was overjoyed at his "dead" status. He already felt immense guilt for being 100 years late and having the world without hope for so long. Now the world is seemingly without hope again. It's a lot to bear, especially after dying and failing big time back in Ba Sing Se.
We finally get to see Ozai's face! I love how the show has built him up to be this shadowy and dangerous monster but in actuality, he just looks like a normal human being. I remember thinking it was hard to believe that such a handsome and normal-looking guy could be the cause of so much suffering both for the world and for his son.
Mae Whitman was phenomenal this episode! I found myself tearing up a little when Katara broke down emotionally like that. She's been so strong and holding everything together thus far that it was about time she let everything out, and allowed herself this huge moment of vulnerability. Zach Tyler Eisen, Aang's VA, was also fantastic this episode too! For a kid, I always found it impressive just how wide of a range he had in terms of emotions. Even more impressive is how most of his recordings for ATLA were done in Connecticut via satellite.

Again in the comics, the events which took place after Azula shot Aang are explained. He spent a year traveling the Earth Kingdom as a humble man before coming back to Ba Sing Se to resume his reign as king.

Almost as if to say “so here is what a father *should* be. And now here’s Ozai who never even once says “i love you”

Can we all just have some appreciation for Mae Whitman (the voice of Katara) in the scene where she's crying and talking to her Hakoda? That is probably the best voice acting I've ever heard in my life.

Zuko understanding that Aang is alive is cool because not only did Katara tell him about having the spirit water, but it connects all the way back to the season 1 finale where Zuko was actually THERE listening when Yue explained how the oasis saved her life.

Emilia Martinez well there’s 3 tiers, but only the 2nd and 3rd tiers give you access to early content. I ended up getting the 3rd tier ($10) because it gives access to every reaction. Some of them like lupa’s reaction to the promised neverland, are patreon exclusive. But anyway, I’m not 100% sure if tier 2 gets you every reaction. I think it’ll give you every episode of atla, but if you want every reaction you should prolly get tier 3. Cuz I started with tier 2, but it didn’t have every show 🤷🏽♂️ But anyway it’s still completely optional unless you want full and early reactions. 8:15 maybe one of the only plot holes. Toph is on a ship separated by water from another ship. Not only is she able to aim for the opposing ship's catapults, she can also intercept the projectile fired from the catapult. This is contrary to how the writers explain her "vibration vision" works. She should be for the most part unable to "see" anything past her own ship. Even if you make the argument that her hearing has developed to compensate for her lack of eyesight, she would most likely miss incoming projectiles and still have no chance to aim at a catapult. I believe this plot hole is only compounded by "The Desert" in S2 as Sokka has to direct her where to aim a rock to hit a buzzard wasp that is far closer to her.

Also I think Aang really works having hair, although it is heartbreaking to see bc i know having hair causes a lot of spiritual and cultural strife within him. It’s always a coincidence that AANG got caught up in that storm during a full moon, so he could be given guidance and help when he needed it most
It’s pretty weird to me how Zuko invented the saying “Azula always lies” to keep himself from falling in her lies, but then played right into one, true his actions are actually reasonable considering what he was through at the time, but it seems weird to me how he ignored his own saying
Book 2 started with Zuko believing Azula's lies and ended with him believing Azula's lies.

Life experience taught me that if you are repeating a mantra to yourself for something a lot in one go, you know you’re desperate against a powerful mental force.
Azula manipulated Zuko to the point where Zuko feels he can’t trust himself to know when she’s lying. Azula also always uses Ozai’s honour and the honour of prince hood, 2 of the things Zuko spent his whole life defining himself by.
It’s clear Zuko knew he was facing a losing war against Azula’s mind games, and he has nothing left for himself other than to repeat a mantra to use what little mental strength he has against her.
Talk about some trauma. Katara had to drag his lifeless body back to Appa and had to hope that she was healing him. He was in a coma for 2 weeks and all she could do was try to heal him with almost no effect. She was using water purified by a God by the way. Some of the most sacred water in the world and even that was almost not enough.
That moment when you realize Fire Lord Ozai is voiced by the best Joker, Mark Hamill. O.O

The insanely fast fall of Ba Sing Se was directly based on the fall of the Qing dynasty. Especially the fact that the nobles in the capital completely ignored the war right up until the invaders had breached the city walls.

I think it was the because the Earth King lived his whole life being kept out of the loop and fed with all the wrong information. That's why when he said "The Earth Kingdom...has fallen..." It was powerful because even HE knew the gravity of the situation.
