    I bought a live squirrel trap from Amazon. Works great!! Caught 5. Drove them several kms away. I just don’t catch them too late in the season, as I don’t want to take them away from their winter food supply

    Speaking of mold. Best to keep the humidity in your trailer between 40-50. I see you have been working on. A dehumidifier in the summer (you can use the extra water you collect) and a humidifier in the winter. PS: Enjoy your videos. Most out there are showing construction and many don't even have sound. Yours is living. I'm in New Brunswick so you being close makes it more interesting. Best to you.

    Lite coating of motor oil on the plywood will stop the mold and protect the wood. It’ll soak into the wood and not feel oily.

    Hi Jenna, back in the 70's, 80's and 90's I was an RV tech (self-employed) and I only worked on RV's that were towed. One of the biggest problems that I ran into was refrigerators not getting cold enough. This tip that I am going to tell you is from my father. If you have a few hand tools, a half a day and a friend, you might be able to lower the temperature in your refrigerator. Disconnect all the electrical and gas lines, making sure to mark where everything goes, pull the refrigerator out of its slot and turn it upside down for about three to four hours, then reinstall it and turn it back on. This makes the freon happy again! I made lots of money doing this for customers and they didn't have shell out hundreds of dollars to buy a new fridge. I have watched a lot of your videos and I can see you are very good with mechanical things. Give it a shot!

    • @gypsyjenna
      @gypsyjenna  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip. I have heard of this before. It's just really funny how it runs fine all winter but every summer it just HATES the humidity and stays warmish

    • @SandCruzer6
      @SandCruzer6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gypsyjenna Humidity Really shouldn't have anything to do with, it probably is the outside ambient temperature that's affecting it more than anything. I would try that tip first and see what is does, the only out of pocket money you might have to spend is a hamburger and a iced cold beer for your helper. If it doesn't help, then you might have to see what it cost for a service tech to come out and hook up some gauges and see if it is low on freon. It should get as cold as a residential fridge. Beer should be nice and cold!!

    I vote to release the Beast Ramsey that should solve the squirrel issue. I had squirrels getting into my insulation and creating big problems then I got Mr Zuess my cat, issue was solved in a couple of days. He hunted them down and dispatched quickly however the rotting squirrel carcasses were a bit unsightly in the yard. Word will spread with speed in the squirrel community that your house is dangerous to invade. Let the mighty Ramsey Rein!!!

  • @3rubberboats
    @3rubberboats ปีที่แล้ว

    Greetings Janna, If you can put the same kind of screen you have for the cats all around the bottom of your roof. Make sure the squirrel is not up there when completed. Maybe get another wood stove fan and lay it down over the fridge vent and the heat might cause it to help pull the hot air out which will help it to stay cooler but don't know if that would work. Put insulation on the bottom and around and on top of your fresh water tank. Spray chlorine bleach on the mold first to clean then paint it with an enamel paint. Old RV's don't have the best windows and you will loose most of the heat out those windows. Hope this helps with how to fix. Thanks for sharing.

    When I lived in an RV, I lived on a property like you, surrounded by trees. It further compresses the humidity around the trailer, especially at night. I ended up having to buy & use a 35 quart dehumidifier. I ran it every night during summer. It pulled a full 35 quart pan of water every night. It's an extra draw on electric. But the mold control is worth it, as is your health.

  • @jaggjagg5928
    @jaggjagg5928 ปีที่แล้ว

    When camping during hot temperatures, we always opened the "outside access door" and placed a small fan blowing on the compressor. It helps...Opening the door helps to release the built up heat too.

    I love your spring cleaning videos Jenna! Ok, good tips:
    1) For humidity buy a standing tower fan and keep it running all summer in oscillation mode. It will keep the air moving and will actually keep you cooler.
    2) after you cut your new plywood for the diesel heater paint it with white Killz. I use that stuff all the time here for moist environments.
    I am so thrilled your warranty came thru too. Girl, the RV struggle is real. Oh, that bloody spider had an egg sack under it. Google "brown woods spider egg sacks" and enjoy the pics 😀. Those things party hard under my RV too. Grace (my chaweenie) yelped and when I looked at her she had a huge woods spider on her snout. Funny...... for me, not so much for her.

    I’d LOVE to fit my wood stove in my little camper. I’d stay year round too. ♥️ House fire a year + ago, DESTROYED everything. Apartment in town 🤢 I HATE it. So my son is there with his dogs ( breeder ) and I bought a small camper because my dog went in heet and there’s coywolves in my back woods. I came with her last June. …. left when Fiona hit. Came back this year mid April 🥰 it’s HOME ♥️ and I do my gardens and tend the lawn etc. All that fun stuff. Love your channel your winters are my winters 😄 I’m just across the border in NB I just don’t have the room for a stove 😢 It’s a 1964 Glendale Falcon It’s been called in relation to canned ham 🤷‍♀️🤪🤷‍♀️ but it’s small. Live trap the squirrel and let it out far off from your place maybe. They certainly are a nuisance- I have them here but all along the maple trees. If they lived in my house - their house burnt too. Maybe that’s why they chatter at me so bad.

    My cat would have eaten the squirrel by now. I got two more solar panels, 😆. I have 1600 watts of them now. They ran the air conditioner today no prob. The charge controller max is 1040 watts. I had 1030 going through it earlier. I got another water barrel and gave my uncle one. I've been trying to get the old wood stove out of the barn. I'm going to put it out by the greenhouse to cook on outside. I've got four quarts of tomatoes that need canned up. It is terribly humid. This morning I checked the weather and it said humidity was 100 percent, it just wasn't quite raining. It was probably 99 and a half. Two days ago the heat index was 119. Yesterday it dropped to 107. If my uncle asks, I'm going to tell him that the smoke from Canada must be affecting my solar panels...they worked awesome today. I've got enough power now. I was glad the wind wasn't blowing. The meter says it made 6.46 kWh..It has rained about five times the past two weeks. I wish it would rain up there like that, and put the smoke out. I found a quart of battery acid, and it's time to go through the batteries and tweak them out. I have 120 cells to check out and equalize. I bet you would love to have to do that, lol. Everything has to be maintained. Have you ever seen a squirrel trap ?

    • @gypsyjenna

    Just found your site and now backtracking on your videos. Squirrels can be a problem - under the hood of your car and chewing the wiring (happened to me) If they get into your trailer or shed, they can do damage. Princess Auto has a live squirrel traps. You can then take them for a drive. Best thing to do with them.

    Hi Jenna, I'm on the other spectrum of RV living. I'm in Mohave County in Arizona and the heat is on minus any humidity to speak of. I have black widow spiders around the under belly of my RV that I have to be careful to not agitate. Once bitten a lesson learned. Yeah, back in my first year out here I wasn't careful and was bitten by a widow that thought my shoe would be a good home.
    That place I had then is no longer the home I have today and have not lived in since November 2015. That's when I received my 'Casa Shasta' a 1997 26'.5" pull trailer with a slide out. I removed the bankette almost immediately and also I removed the bed and have my rear bedroom set up as a dressing room with the closets and a household lingerie chest of drawers that stands about 5'6" feet tall with it's six drawers in that space. The fresh water tank was removed too. I've had water supplied from well water sources in the two RV parks in which I've been a reisdent of instead. I've experienced water line failures that necissitated removing all the carpet* to repair the floor. My Dometic fails in the summer so I purchased a stand alone mini fridge sans a freezer compartment to augment the Dometic which works fine in the winter.
    *the former bedroom now dressing room still has carpet, sound familiar?
    Your trials are much more intense being you are boondocking where I on the other hand am able to use shore power and well water service.
    I can empithize with you on much of what you are challenged with in your RV.
    I am baking out here in the desert Southwest but with a mister attached to my garden hose I can be outside with a 5'mph breeze and a spritzer bottle of water just to be cool enough at 65 years old and a bit of COPD to boot.
    I lost my feline to (?) recently as I let had him roam at night only bc he was insistant and I left his survival to his own ability, it seems he was either taken by a neighbor and shifted to some other place for reasons only they would be privy to or a coyote took Hairy away one night.
    I have two cars that little rodents love to nest in and being I don't drive either of them daily the chance of a failure of the electrics if and when the rodents become comfortable returning with Hairy no longer on the prowl, what do you do to coimbat pests? Snakes, Black Widows, kangaroo mice/rats, ants, and the summer time roach that tries to nest around any twater source.
    Well I have adopted a one year old non nuetered feline that doesn't want to go outdoors so that's good for indoor pest control. Lamps in the engine bays of my cars as well those high frequency inaudible pest contol devices to ward off the rodents and mint oil and Irish Spring solution... It's a non ending battel for sure.
    Good on you for making this time of your life your own... Admiration from a wanna'be boon docker.
    p.s. Edit: In the winter I unplug my Danby augmented fridge but in the summer such as currently the Dometic will only keep butter and ketchup, and those items that are okay at 60 dgrees fahrenheit.

    I had squirrels in the attic of an 1800s home I restored and it was a nightmare to get them out. You'll have to use metal mesh to go all around the roof of the camper to make sure he can't get in that void. A pain in the bum (Canadian word for you, eh?) but better than fixing the destruction. And, I'm not trying to cause any panic here, but was that spider carrying egg sacks, or was that just the angle of the camera?

      Think it was an egg sack

    You better trap him and re-home him. That squirrel will eat any wiring up there. He is making a home for winter. I was wondering do you have ventation under your camper so if you get mositure under there it can dry up. Great video Jenna and good to see you. Be safe

    I've heard mothballs or hot pepper...question is will you or the cats be bothered by it? Maybe throw them up on the roof of the Gypsy Den? (The mothballs, not the cats).
    Doesn't matter where you live... it's always something. ❤ from NC!

      Absolutely! I have tried cayenne pepper on the roof but the squirrels didn't seem bothered. Maybe I need to try the mothballs trick 🤔

    Getting things done! Ok 👍 now that your car 🚙 is ready, your moped/scooter is next. There are several products to treat and “kill” mold. The thing about mold is, you have a chance of it spreading to other rooms/places if you don’t completely remove it and it’s “food” source. Usually mold will start growing in humid places, or where condensation or water will pool/puddle or get absorbed into natural fibers and fabrics, including wood. Basically, mold can grow on anything organic. If there are 2 or more types of mold, that can be even more dangerous than just 1 type, because different types of molds will use “biological warfare” against each other. Molds will release “mycotoxins” which are very dangerous to us and can cause illnesses, make you sick 🤢 and lethargic, feel like you don’t have any energy, etc.. a dehumidifier will help pull the moisture (humidity) from the air, but make sure you dump/drain the water outside, somewhere it cannot mix into your water source. Older types of dehumidifiers and other such equipment, can have contaminated water, (see legionnaires disease, etc). That squirrel 🐿️ could do serious damage-chew electrical wires, pipes, even through fiberglass and plastic. It’d be best for you to evict it.

    There are live traps that you can use to relocate pests without killing them. If that's a direction you prefer to go.

    Squirrels...aka bushy tailed rats. We got 'em on the West Coast...you got 'em on the East Coast...methinks it is time to round 'em up and drive 'em to Quebec. A little culture wouldn't be no bother no-how. (i mentioned a fellow engineer sold his house due to a belligerent squirrel?) 🐭

    Your mold/damp basement smell problem will only get worse you should be looking at replacing the trailer with another newer one (4 season) OR design and build a bunkie that would , oh sh!t I forgot . Hi Jenna back to the bunkie would make great content for your channel , I believe we touched on this topic already but you will have a big decision to make sooner than later and you know how I feel about "I'll chew on anything " squirrel .
