i used to go to a bingo hall in the early 2000's and can confirm this video is accurate on the bingo culture. a hall full of salty old women smoking and drinking. loved it
The scene in the staff room where they're talking about Keith Lard wasn't rehearsed. They all knew their lines but Peter ablibbed a lot of it which is why the other guy was losing his shit laughing 😅
The actual Bingo hall they used for this show was in Blackpool, not Bolton, I used to get the train to the station across the road from it. Just looked it up on street view and realised it was now closed. I feel old.
I worked in a bingo hall for 20 years, in the same company that peter kay worked at, I know people that worked with him. He used to turn up for work on his bike everyday and was very quiet. His depiction is very accurate to Bingo in the north of england.
At 24.09 commentary Peter Kay was on about people he auditioned for the part of Ron told them to be realistic and one screamed the line “GET HIM OUT OF MY OFFICE!”
It does make me laugh claiming the hall is in Bolton when I’ve been past the place where they filmed the exteriors more times than I can count and it’s definitely not in Bolton (it’s Blackpool and the hall is now a Pizza Hit).
Can confirm that this is more like a documentary than a comedy... 100% accurate. I worked in a bingo hall that was exactly the same at the same time this aired... some of the best days of my life were had in the 7yrs i worked there... great start to my adult life and also met my wife there
The Peter Kay Things; the pilot episode ‘The Services’ is based at a Motorway service station, not something you have in America; but it’s a place to pull off the Freeway and there’s a few shops, places to eat, get fuel and sometimes a Motel....I liked this one The 4th episode is ‘The Arena’ based at the Manchester Evening News Arena (as it was called then), it’s a big indoor sports & concert venue in Manchester that Peter worked at before becoming famous..... The 5th is ‘Leonard’ about the oldest paper delivery boy.....This one is ok Lastly the 6th ‘Lonely at the Top’ is about Marc Park, which was from episode 1 ‘In the Club’ & Phoenix Nights, he was half the double act of Park Avenue....so since you’ve seen the character in the other episodes could be worth a watch. I’d watch the Pilot episode next.....see where it started and how it’s changed slightly for the series.
It's not as obvious here, but every episode of That Peter Kay Thing makes a reference to Bob Carolgees (who was famous in the UK from the in the 1970s and 1980s mostly. He appears in the photograph at 6:20.
Peter got in trouble with the character “keith lard” he is very similar to a bolton council fire safety officer called Keith laird. Channel 4 paid £10,000 in compensation. 😀
Yes you are right the lady in the blue sweatshirt was Peter Kay lol. You should definitely do the rest of the series. The Arena is the next episode which is also a great episode then its Leonard which in my opinion is the best one although i think Ice Cream Man Cometh was the funniest again in my opinion. There is just something about Leonard that makes you warm to him more than any other character in the series. the last episode Lonely at the top is about Mark Park from Park Avenue who you will have seen in episode 1 In the club. the pilot is very good too. Definitely do them all.
I think honestly if Lard had been a real employee of a company, he'd never have made it to 6 callouts of a fire brigade, he'd probably get 3 and after that he'd get dismissed/sacked. If calling them out for something like that, where the callout isnt for genuine reasons they fine the company and its not at all cheap (could even be criminal perhaps but thats debatable I suppose for wasting their time.
I disagree with the formed in Ancient Rome, the first bingo machine was created in cave man times, but it got smashed as they used rocks instead of ping pong balls
im not sure if bingo is big elsewhere or if this even still exists but in britain theres a thing called Mecca bingo, where hundreds of elderly white women congregate in the hopes of not winning but having a nice day out and flirting with the bingo caller.
Why the inane whiny voiced comments from the avatar in the bottom left. Take a video of something good and put your face and dumb comments over it and present it as a unique presentation.

The camera keeps moving up and down in that scene as well so I’m pretty sure the camera man is laughing as well 😂
Always floors me that one!

Yvonne is played by Sian Gibson, who later appeared with Peter Kay in 'Car Share'
I genuinely didnt see that at all, now makes sense, she's great!

Little behind the scenes fact.
At 4:44 when the ladies are talking about "Tom" they where asked about what they thought about Tom Cruise.
That's fantastic!
wasnt it Tom Jones ?
It does make me laugh claiming the hall is in Bolton when I’ve been past the place where they filmed the exteriors more times than I can count and it’s definitely not in Bolton (it’s Blackpool and the hall is now a Pizza Hit).

The woman in the blue jumper and glasses is another Peter Kay
This is probably the thing I've most related to out of everything Peter Kay has done.
The Peter Kay Things; the pilot episode ‘The Services’ is based at a Motorway service station, not something you have in America; but it’s a place to pull off the Freeway and there’s a few shops, places to eat, get fuel and sometimes a Motel....I liked this one

Christ, we still call it the M.E.N.
8:04 I just realised that's Sian Gibson in Car Share!
Thats her! I've just paused it to try and remember her name lol. Thanks :)
She was also a Paddy conquest in Phoenix Nights.
I believe her name was Mary.
And that man friends with Patrick and Yvonne, the laughing one, is played by Alex Lowe, who also played Clinton Baptiste
This is the finest episode of TPKT ever.
I actually didn’t find a lot of them funny but defo this and the ice cream man cometh are excellent
'The Oldest Paper Boy' is a must!
It's not as obvious here, but every episode of That Peter Kay Thing makes a reference to Bob Carolgees (who was famous in the UK from the in the 1970s and 1980s mostly. He appears in the photograph at 6:20.
I just explained that to my American friend who I am watching these with :)
There was a cartoon series in the 80s called Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds.
18:46 😂 the smug face 😂😂
Episode 5 Leonard
The Oldest Paper Boy in Britain is the best one.
I definitely agree with you let’s get ready to rumble by ant and dec was a great song growing up in the 90s 😆😆😆
Great stuff, love That Peter Kay Thing. Would love to see more Phoenix Nights too
chips fish peas and a drink for 2.49! whats not to love ;)
Peter got in trouble with the character “keith lard” he is very similar to a bolton council fire safety officer called Keith laird. Channel 4 paid £10,000 in compensation. 😀
no way is that true? haha buzzin
Hiya. For Peter Kay as a female you MUST check out his 'Geraldine McQueen - Britain's Got The Pop Factor' spoofs. Stay safe. All the best to you.
Yeah I'd recommend that too
Like the cop bumming dogs in Brassic!
Fun fact: Patrick O'Neil's look was based on Lewis capaldi

Last episode 'Lonely at the Top' you should see that and the pilot 'The Services'.
Noah I think this episode is missing from your playlist of the series
You were correct thanks for letting me know

My favourite episode is Leonard, would love to see you react to that.
7:57 is Alex Lowe, AKA Clinton Baptiste, your favourite Clairvoyant and Psychic.
"Hello.. it'sss it'sss Barry.... Barry from Watforrrrrd"
Fantastic
He's still making or trying to make a living off that these days.
He gave the dog a good whack too lard arse lol
I went to bingo last month and its all electronic now on tablet option to Auto dab I'm 32 and loved it 😎

22:37 - Underrated joke
I disagree with the formed in Ancient Rome, the first bingo machine was created in cave man times, but it got smashed as they used rocks instead of ping pong balls
Woof and the house goes up

im not sure if bingo is big elsewhere or if this even still exists but in britain theres a thing called Mecca bingo, where hundreds of elderly white women congregate in the hopes of not winning but having a nice day out and flirting with the bingo caller.
Birkenhead 🤣🤣🤣
Opera hall, Bingo hall....same thing.
Have you reacted to the two Comic Relief songs / videos he did (Amarillo & 500 miles)...?
Amarillo has Mr. Savile... so no.
InsaneGamers - Very good point, forgot ‘IT’ was in it....
How do you know Pj and Duncan I didn't think it reached America?
Oh they didn't but a few of my viewers on Twitch have shown me.
4,45 they are actually talking about Tom Cruise
Stars in their eyes normal members of the public made up to look like the singer they sound like presented by Mathew Kelly
Now that you've seen this and Phoenix Nights, how about reacting to Car share.
