The bedroom scene is a parody of Apocalypse Now....Peter says "I love the smell of raspberry in the morning"...a take off of the line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"..
There was definitely bits of taxi driver at the beginning and when he gets ready for the show with the scoop strapped to his arm but it was mainly apocalypse now in the bedroom
kays works are full of parody's and song references along with his observational comedy of life in the north west of the UK is what makes him as popular as he is
best of the series , keith laird and the typical young lads reaction to him is typical north west UK interactions funnier as that is exactly how it happens
I love how the lady just smiles at 23:44 what a sport she was. I think I’d be the same with all the pandemonium happening. Great reaction Noah. One of my Favourites.
This entire episode is pretty much a parody of Taxi Driver and even uses music from the film. How they managed to get the rights to use the musical score I'll never know 😆
BBC and Channel 4 (possibly ITV too) have a blanket usage license of anything covered by PRS, they only struggle when music played is impromptu, like unexpectedly in a live show - or if it would be used as a regular feature, like a theme tune.
There was a thing in Glasgow called the Ice cream wars. Some drug dealers were selling out of ice cream vans, and they started muscling out legitimate ice cream sellers on their patch. It was actually pretty awful and violent, but was very bizarre and probably an inspiration for this episode
Peter Kay plays a few Memorable Characters in this hilarious episode,🇬🇧😁🇺🇲From a hilarious reaction from our American viewers😆Watch The first Episode with Peter Kay as Brian Potter 2 years later would be the owner of the Phoenix Club , Hilarious 🤣🇬🇧🇺🇲left me in stitches when he loses its at the camera crew to throwing an eppy in his van by throwing the ice cream over the lady to throwing it at the windows 🤣😂The American viewing this was hilarious with his views ,Glad you enjoyed it man ,A Great treat from the UK from Bolton ,Lancashire 😂🤣❤️🤟🇬🇧
You joke about if he's going to stab him, but check out the Glasgow Ice Cream Wars from the 1980's. Oh yes, and you need Phoenix Nights on your view list.
The episode called ‘In the Club’ of That Peter Kay Thing, was the episode that was turned into Phoenix Night, it had the same characters (Brian, Max & Paddy etc).
Signor Whippee was also played by Peter Kay, as well as Paul Le Roy the Chorley FM DJ and the ARC Recovery, the Scottish mechanic who fixes Darren's Fiesta. The 'Doorman' from the Neptune that 'Debbie' had been shagging was Paddy. Should definitely do the whole series.
My home towns own Peter Kay, it was filmed at a well known show which used to take place just Round the corner from my mum and dads house every summer called the Bolton Show and it was a great summer fayre sadly no longer happens :(
Glasgow had an actual event in the 80s called the ice cream wars. It was all about drug pedalling and they killed each other, this is like a tame version.
Havent seen this for a long time. The whole series is worth watching even if you dont review them. Leonard, Boltons Oldest Paperboy was my favourite episode. Its just dawned on me that that might have been who was carrying the cross at Bolton Show.
Paul le Roy is also Peter Kay. Paul also features in the services, the pilot, I think that's the best one. Also features an angry Scottish Roadside recovery company owner, a strict coach driver, a frustrated teenage worker and a manager with OCD. The services - episode 0 (pilot) on disc 2
Oh, The Ice Cream Man Cometh! The best episode of That Peter Kay Thing! Ironic, really. When the first episode of this series (based on The Neptune) formed the basis for the brilliant Phoenix Nights! Loved your reaction, mate! Glad you’ve been enjoying these UK Sitcoms. I recommend checking out the Apollo Bingo episode of That Peter Kay Episode. Also, definitely check out Phoenix Nights. And as for more Father Ted...check out The Passion of St. Tibulus!
Look forward to when you get to react to Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere. That is still the funniest TV series I think Peter Kay has done and is a spin off from Phoenix Nights, so probably worth doing some of them first. These are all series with very few episodes which could be reacted to gradually over time. I think many of the best British comedy's are line that, they are made for just a few series and often just 6 episodes per series (other than Only Fools and Horses and handful of others, some of which have been revived and kept going like Red Dwarf)
The mirror scene is a mix of Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now. The opening part is very much Taxi Driver. I was waiting for him to say something like "Some day a big rain will come, and wash all the scum away".
Peter played 4 parts in this, softy, whippie, dj and the mechanic. He normally plays between 3-4 per episode. I’d love to see you react to the other 5 episodes and both Phoenix Nights followed by Max & Paddy.
Phoenix nights is definitely the best thing that Peter Kay has done imo. And there were only 12 episodes made. And the references here are Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now
I think Paul LeRoy is the only character in this episode to go onto Phoenix Nights, but in Phoenix Nights you only hear him on the radio. Love your reaction vids btw 👍
the guy renting the video is Alan from Les Alanos.... He references that he and Deborah had split up as she had been shagging around with a bouncer from The Neptune Club, this was a throwback to the 'In the club' episode when Paddy is talking to Max and said that he 'had her' on the snooker table. I never understood why Alan is so friendly with Paddy in Phoenix Nights when he had previously been nailing his missus
Love the call back to the bouncer at the Neptune club banging his wife, Patrick mentions it when the guy and his wife go into the club in the talent show episode XD.
The funny thing Ice Cream Wars is a real thing I live near where that's all filmed and 2 ice cream vans come onto our estate at the same time and ended up as a chase. 1 was a Ford Transit and the other was a Suzuki Super Carry and there was a chase and the Suzuki rolled over further up the road.
there is quite often countryside shooting events in england. its mainly shotguns and rifles that are legal, only very few air pistols are legal and not allowed as side arms or for carrying in genreal.. i also remember getting a decent copy of the first harry potter when it came out from my local corner shop, i remember not giving a single shit about harry potter and once we bought and watched it i still didnt give a shit about harry potter or even his mum.
Paul Le Roy is a minor character that crops up occasionally in Phoenix Nights. You should really react to ‘In The Club’ which features many of the main characters from Phoenix Nights and is about the Neptune Club which Brian Potter ran before the Phoenix Club. Also, Bingo Hall episode is hilarious and features Keith Lard who appears in an episode of Phoenix Nights too.
Phoenix Nights is just a treat for you. If you can get passed the northern British humour you’ll love it. Also another brilliant That Peter Kay Thing episode is Leonard The Oldest Ever Paper Boy.
The best episode of this was the pilot episode the service's were Peter playes a woman and several other people. It is with out doubt the funniest of them all.
Interesting fact, the narrator on these was the actor who played Manuel in Fawlty Towers
He really does speak English well, must of been an amazing book
He sadly passed away back in November 2016, RIP Manuel.
@Barney Riggs yes I remember him doing Hotel at the Adelphi in Liverpool.
I’ve still got the Andrew Sachs Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs audiobooks. He helped me fall to sleep for 12 years.
Fun fact no.2 ..Russell brand f***ed his grandaughter and left him a voicemail telling him so.
The bedroom scene is a parody of Apocalypse Now....Peter says "I love the smell of raspberry in the morning"...a take off of the line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"..
I thought it was taxi driver!
There was definitely bits of taxi driver at the beginning and when he gets ready for the show with the scoop strapped to his arm but it was mainly apocalypse now in the bedroom
Jay the doors of perception ah ok. Makes sense!
kays works are full of parody's and song references along with his observational comedy of life in the north west of the UK is what makes him as popular as he is
The funny thing is 'Softy's Hard Stuff' at the end was a real adult video shop in Bolton
Did they have "Shitty Shitty Gang Bang?"
It was in the town centre too 😂 I've walked past it like a thousand times. It was always weird walking past when you were a kid haha
@@ryanyates4124 My grandma innocently ventured in as my brother was obsessed with pirates as a kid, after seeing the sign for "pirate vids"...

More than that, she was laughing 😂
This entire episode is pretty much a parody of Taxi Driver and even uses music from the film. How they managed to get the rights to use the musical score I'll never know 😆
And Bananarama's - Robert De Niro's Waiting was played at the 'Bolton Show'
@@cocomoon2460 nice detail. I nevernoticed the connection until you just pointed it out 😆👍

yeh there was also a good film about it called comfort and joy. directed by bill forsyth.
The Parody at the beginning is Taxi Driver.
It's mad he didn't know that!
Ha ha, "Italian from Barnsley", that's my home town.
You could swap Bolton for Barnsley anyday. Nobody would notice. It still looks like the late 90's.
Sitting down, cats at side., tea being enjoyed. 🍵Also phenix nights is phenomenal. Watched that with my mum growing up so funny. 😂
"and he won't try and fob you off with any of that foreign muck laced with chemicals"

Special shout-out as well to the late, great Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers) who narrates this ace series. 👍🏻
Its Apocalypse Now Parady. Peter Kay' filmed all his shows in his hometown Bolton.
Thanks for these commentary videos, keep doing them.
Peter Kay looks like a bad UK Ric Flair tribute act in this
David Banner. He was called that on the seventies tv show

Pheonix nights and peter Kay's car share would be great to watch
I grew up in Bolton. Softys hard stuff was a real adult shop and that was the name of it lol.
Matt N there’s still a Softy’s in Preston.
You gotta do Peter Kay's Car Share. It'd be a really popular reaction, though definitely a Dailymotion one.

im from the same area as Peter Kay. this show is hilarious

That Peter Kay Thing "'The Arena" is very good. He plays an incompetent steward at a rock music arena.
Paul Le Roy is a minor character that crops up occasionally in Phoenix Nights. Chocolate sauce chained up 😂😂😂
Classic isn't it the corona was in the windscreen in the opening minutes
I think the title is a play on ‘The Gasman Cometh,’ by Flanders and Swann.
Whoah, what's that? That's right. We train for space flight from a young age in the UK.
Taxi driver with ice cream vans instead of taxis - that's your parody......
Leonard the oldest paperboy is also a great episode from this.
I'm still wondering what he means by ice cream men are going out of business. It's almost 25 years later and they still exist.
Where he loses it with the woman over the lack of ice cream 😀😀😀😀
Yep Ford newly designated as truly British,, which means if we like it it's not British it's brilliant 😂😂😂
Peter Kay tends to play multiple characters in his shows
The car wouldn't start he was in the fluorescent jacket with the hat on
11:05 - One half of Les Alamos buying a Bluey.
If you pause at 23:44 you can see the woman laughing
The softys hard stuff porn shop at the end was a genuine point shop in Bolton (home town resident)
Peter Kay captures small town northern British life extremely well but I'm not sure how well his comedy translates to the US and elsewhere.
Never gets old. I’m in hot pursuit 😂
Recommend Peter Kay at his live show misheard music lyrics
Phoenix Nights is just a treat for you. If you can get passed the northern British humour you’ll love it. Also another brilliant That Peter Kay Thing episode is Leonard The Oldest Ever Paper Boy.

Andrew Sachs, Manuel from Fawlty Towers.

It's an Apocalypse Now parody the bedroom scene.
Dr David Bruce Banner was the name of The Hulk in the '78 TV show.
You should watch services, bingo hall and leonard episodes
Senior whippy is actually peter kay
The parody I think is Apocalypse Now
Would love to see Phoenix Nights next, then Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere is a very funny spin off from that.
He's got a fucking hidden blade, going assassins creed on this shit
Its so great this episode its beautiful
Fun fact Peter k Is from Bolton 👍
