If you tie in watching the ‘Eyes Down’ episode of That Peter Kay Thing (which is an episode well worth watching) with Episode 3 (Series 1) of Phoenix Nights you’ll find a brilliant character called Keith Lard. I won’t spoil it, but 😂

The guy on the drums, 'Les', lives close to me, he's done the breakfast show on BBC Radio Sheffield for years now. If I hear him on the way to work I just have Phoenix Nights in my head for the whole morning.
Peter Kay said he was going to have Brian be lying about not being able to walk, he didn’t really keep the story line going but most people think he can probably walk
Don't think so because didn't they do an episode where he was trapped for hours because his stairlift broke halfway up the stairs?

The singer from Park Avenue also got his own episode. I went to either college or school with the girl who told the guy from Chorley FM to "stop looking at her t*ts" haha
As other people are saying, Eyes Down is worth a go, if not just for the disclaimer that comes up at the start or end of the broadcast.
When they filmed the show they told the crowd all acts are legit. So when Michelle Coffee goes out alone. The audience reaction is genuine haha
When he stands at the end, Peter Kay said he has always regretted it.
Glad you are enjoying this, my mother actually lives in Bolton where this is set, and is famed for 'working men's' clubs, where you pay a yearly membership (about $50), which gets you relatively cheap beer, access to raffles for prizes like a tray full of meat ($1 a ticket, 6 for $5 lol), bingo, every sports TV channel in the world and live entertainment. Pheonix nights is the closest thing to reality I have ever seen. Having spent a lot of time watching football matches in working men's clubs in Bolton, Peter Kay has captured it 100000000% comedically. After spending all day inside in one, I was asked to leave by an over-zealous bouncer for wearing shorts and sandals in the summer (aged 42) , I saw two men allowing their pet dogs to have sex in the car park to get one pregnant for the fee of £50 whilst some of the regular drinkers watched and on one occasion, an old man died whilst sat on the toilet.
As some others have commented I’d also like to see you react to the “Eyes Down” Bingo hall episode, it’s hilarious

The plot of Brian being able to walk was one scrapped for Phoenix Nights. Maybe worth watching the final episode 'Lonely At the Top' following Marc Park after his and Sheryl's success in the Talent show in 'In The Club'.
He can't walk in phoenix nights, there's an episode where he is stuck and could have easily gotten out if he wasn't paralysed

The Park Avenue performance, as mentioned in Peter's commentary was heavily cut down due to losing the licence to play Tina Turner's ''Simply the Best'' in the show outside its original airings on Channel 4 in 2000.

In the first episode of Phoenix nights in the first scene Brian gets the 2 guys working on the lights to turn around when moving from his scooter to his wheelchair because the ongoing joke was that he could walk but I think they dropped that story
In the ice cream man episode I think the guy who buys a porn tape mentions that his Mrs has been knocking off a bouncer from the Neptune club or maybe I misheard

cant lie, the british working mans club is a venue for anyone trying to get a taste of 90s britain! i think every party or elderly persons celebration in my younger years was at a working mens club. i first realised it was out of my time when i found some lockers that were labeled 'margaret' 'Edith' 'Janet' and 'Kathlene'. two names of which were also my aunts names but they didnt attend any club lol

Mark Pentler Charnock Richard was the turn off for Camelot but otherwise is the last services before Preston on the M6. The one in The Services is on the M61.

"Eyes Down" and "The Services" are great episodes of That Peter Kay Thing to react to so this series definitely isn't completely done yet.
Also, the "brick" job that Jerry mentioned - "if you cut me in two, you'll see Accrington written right through me" refers to a local brick works - Accrington Brick - which were used to build many houses in the North West (and beyond) of England - a beautiful red brick. Also a reference to rock (a candy stick with words written through - usually found in Blackpool).
Also, Chorley FM was a real radio station which only closed down last year - I was a DJ there for a while

The shows lasting shorter works a lot better for their legacy. Usually over here shows are dragged on forever or even brought back in the name of money. Take the Simpsons for example. The Simpsons peaked out around Season 10, they're currently on Season 31.
