Luis Caso - EXACTLY what you said. The sound in this game is the best in ANY fighting game, PERIOD. The soundtrack is incredible too. So glad they gave it away with the SNES game. That was a master stroke
I don't think any other video game has ever been this much better than its peers ever. In 1994 there wasn't a damn game that looked even remotely as awesome as this. It even blew Cruis'n'USA out of the water and they were running on the same hardware. Just goes to show how awesome the team working on this was.

@@AnAdorableWombatMK felt like the poor man's KI, because of the stiff movements of the characters and the lack of visually impressive combos (until MK3, that is). Still, it has some cool characters and can create a dark atmosphere at times (especially the first MK).
I dunno if I'd call it _insanely_ ahead of its time. Donkey Kong Country was already out after all, and used the same technique for the graphics, and arguably looked even better than this despite being on a console
I was pretty impressed. At the time, I was big Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat player. We used to have competitions and prizes. I saw Killer Instinct near the end of my gaming battling run, and the general look and vibe of KI was another level. However, I am not impressed with the game play. Too dependent on combo key knowledge versus being able to out time and out play your opponent. Meaning, a scrub at SFII and MK1 could wipe out a top player at MK1 and SF just by a few tricks there first time out. It was the same shit with MKIII. MKII you could still walk up with no knowledge and compete well. All in all, keypad combos ruined the play. Old combos required timing for ever hit during a sequence, the new way just required one good moment to score massive damage. Took skill out of the game.
The first i remember before Saw the actual graphics was those characters screaming loud and the narrator yelling the combos goosebump the skin then those versus secuences was blow mind

No p**sy “waiting them out”. Or, trying to get the longest possible Ultra.
@@threemr01 I am saying the game placed too much emphasis on having to buy a strategy guide to compete. Placed too much early emphasis on having access to the knowledge, which had no logical root in the mechanics of the game. Imagine if an MMA fighter was in a fight with a guy who had access to some arbitrary mechanics of the universe the other guy has no way of reasoning to acquire. Fighter does something like, "Look at the sky, pick your nose, scratch your balls and say hello," and then super speed flying kick comes out of nowhere. And to stop it, the guy can't run away. He has to (scratch his ass and say dude!) to stop the attack. At that point, you really don't know who the better physically adapted and smarter fighter is, because the skills are disconnected from every prior chain of logic. May look cool, but it is irrational.

I remember going to the arcade with me buddy one night and being floored by this game. I watched people play for 2 hours before I got my chance. It was so impressive for the day.
I remember this like it was yesterday and I remember being a kid in the mid 90s, and getting so excited that this was going to come out for what was then at the time called the Ultra 64! Now I am 29 and I miss being a kid again sometimes; especially when I see old school games that take me back like this one! Awesome game and soundtrack!
The particle effects like the ones at 14:40 still blow me away. People always focused on the CGI stuff with Rare, but they were the kings of clever graphical effects as well.

Well, the Arcade version of this game did come out first, after all. The SNES version was just butchered down & censored because it was too weak to handle the game itself in 3D.
Just the soundtrack is an unbelievable masterpiece. As a teen everytime I danced on Traiblazer I started to jump as Cinder AI always did in his stage XD
this was a great looking game when it came out. I preferred to watch others than waste quarters. You couldn't just walk up to the game and play it because you had to buy a gamer magazine to get all the joystick movement and button combinations to learn all the moves for each fighter, games started getting a little too combo crazy at the time. This was one of the last big arcade games before arcades started disappearing from malls - similar to what happened in the mid 80s

Chris Wright i've got gold edition at home classic from my childhood. n64 controller is near perfect too cause it's got the six buttons right there, only thing is the stick is placed kinda weird but you get used to it.

i was able to download 3 files from the internet (they're no longer available) to install the arcade version of this game on my laptop, this was 8 years ago, I still have that same laptop with the game in it and play it non-stop, KI 1 is timeless!!!!

@Jordan Vallejo they wanted to make that the permanent name but Konami already owned the rights to the Ultra name so they had to change it. Funny thing is that the whole reason that Konami owned the name Ultra was because back in the 80s Nintendo limited third party software developers to only being able to release five games for the NES per year. Many companies created secondary companies to get around this rule and Konami had named theirs Ultra. Funny how that came back to bite Nintendo in the ass.
I used to play the Super Nintendo version but honestly I never like it and when I see this version everything changes!!! On this version you can do 99 hits with everyone I mean all the caracteres the more you play the more undiscovered thing you find I played this game for more then 10 years and I still playing it on my x box it’s the best game and it would be forever.....!

I still think SNES version has some things better than the arcade. But I like the arcade version too. More details, obviously.Glacius, Jago and Fulgore were my favourites. Riptor, Sabrewulf and Chief Thunder favourite guys to fight against. Eyedol was a pain in the ass always LOL

@Jordan Vallejo they wanted to make that the permanent name but Konami already owned the rights to the Ultra name so they had to change it. Funny thing is that the whole reason that Konami owned the name Ultra was because back in the 80s Nintendo limited third party software developers to only being able to release five games for the NES per year. Many companies created secondary companies to get around this rule and Konami had named theirs Ultra. Funny how that came back to bite Nintendo in the ass.

I used to play the Super Nintendo version but honestly I never like it and when I see this version everything changes!!! On this version you can do 99 hits with everyone I mean all the caracteres the more you play the more undiscovered thing you find I played this game for more then 10 years and I still playing it on my x box it’s the best game and it would be forever.....!

The N64 port wasn't even released until late '96 and had replaced the parallax sprite backgrounds with 3D polygon backgrounds. I do believe that there were also some nasty performance issues as well.
..the port you talk about is based off ki 2 and not 1

This was released on Super Nintendo man and they did an incredible job bringin it to console. I still got thumb blisters to prove it.

el mejor soudtrack de los juegos de lucha se me eriza la piel cuando escuho los sonidos de este juego, en 1994 era muy sofisticado comparado con los demas juegos de lucha, es un juegazo!!!

I remember growing up in the 90’s and seeing all the Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat arcade cabinets at my local Path Mark. KI always used to scare me 😂😂😂

Srsly, I mistook this for Mortal Kombat when I was a kid.
I played this on the SNES a looot. Borrowed it from a friend and was mind blown. Haven't seen much of arcade version. Looks freakin' unbelievable. Especially for its time. I still think SNES version has some things better than the arcade. But I like the arcade version too. More details, obviously.Glacius, Jago and Fulgore were my favourites. Riptor, Sabrewulf and Chief Thunder favourite guys to fight against. Eyedol was a pain in the ass always LOL

never got into these games, but wow, this really blows away the sequel in terms of visual presentation. I remember the graphics really being eye-popping on a big arcade monitor back in the day. those combos were ridiculous and what drove me away
