Finally, a process I can get me head around. I thought you were going to use the blade to shave down the high spot but when I saw it used as a spreader of the paint I loved it.
A good honest video which makes a refreshing change from those videos showing miraculous like new results. This video is honest and shows a honest true result. This method with a razor blade seems unbelievable as you think a metal razor blade will damage the paint. But this guy states clearly to use the slightest of pressure. Just one hint for you bud. A slightly better result could have been obtained by using a thicker paint, a thinner brush and doing shorter sections. This reduces massively the amount of excess paint. Yes it takes longer but the results make it worth it. Very good video m8. Well done 👍
Fantastic process. I've always struggled with scratches. I seen a video where they used the blade to shave the high spots but your method is much better.. Thank you for the insight 🙂
@@toms6928 Yes. Even when paint is touch dry or even dry enough to flat back it carries on shrinking. The longer it is left to stabilise before it is rubbed back or polished the better.
I've tried this method on a metallic car, it seems like it's not meant for it. The result was not same as solid color. Anyway, thank you for sharing this knowledge. It does help me to get rid of scratches on my solid paint car. 😊 Always wait for your new videos.
Great technique. I wonder if taping on both the sides of the deep crack, forming a very narrow visible surface and then doing this technique, will avoid the excess paint on the body and limit the work area?
Also after taping paint only scratch with touch up. Do around 4 or 5 layers. Then the scratch will be filled. Then remove tape and wet sand until there's no ridge on the added paint.
Nice work, nice video. I have used a similar process with more than satisfactory results. Always best to keep as much of the original paint as possible in my opinion. No one likes a resprayed panel.
Thanks for uploading the video its very informative. One question I have is can you use this method with metallic paints like diamond silver for instance? Thanks
As a detailer myself that is a very very good touch up, in come cases this touch up has a better outcome than actually respraying the whole door because depending on the color match and in most cases the metalic flake in metalic paint types when it's sprayed can make the whole door stand out under sunlight and at night under street lighting.
A good shop can make the metallics sit perfectly , he did say this is a solid colour so should be no issues . As you know new cars come with thin soft paints and I don’t know if this method would be suitable
Thanks, I like the idea with a razor. My biggest problem in these kind of repairs is the sanding process when You not only sanding out the excess of paint but You're also sanding out the clearcoat that sits all around. You may end up getting through to the base color and then the problem gets worse.
Still worth a try, if the worst happens take it to the paint shop but if not you may well end up with the results achieved in this video and you will have saved yourself a few pennies.
It would take a lot of effort to go through the clear with 4,000 grit paper. If the paint had been compounded and polished a bunch of times then perhaps but if it's virgin clear coat the 4k paper isn't going to cut that much. You'd have to apply quite a bit of pressure and really go to town to get through it.
@@Amddetailing 100% It's very well done work given that fact don't get me wrong.. I recently had something similar on my bumper and tried to blend it in without painting the whole section but the results didn't satisfy, therefore I just painted the whole section and not trusting my work I ended up applying paint protection film to the bumper to make sure the new paint does not chip away in the future
... would it make sense to use a tape up and down the scratch to have only a small line with the scratch? Now go on like shown, remove the tape and the scratch is filled more / higher ... go on with the sand paper ...
Sorry for all the comments 😂 I hope I can still find those razor blades here in the US,I remember my dad use them for shaving,it make sense to use those type because they are flexible.
Makes me wonder...what if you would redo the whole process again to fill the last hardly visible line? Would that not result in a 0 visible scratch at the end?
I did this on a few scratches on a black car. The result is acceptable, but far from "as new" (But of course way better than do it with a scratch repair pen). Yes, it's not noticable from 1 meter and hard to see on camera, but when you sell your car and teh buyer inspects the body panels carefully, then he will notice it. But of course you did your best to repair the scratch and that's the maximum you can do with it.
With practise and different methods you can do it to the point that you can't even notice.. I have done smaller repairs where you would never be able to tell even if you knew where to look..
I did some practice with a touch up pen on a big stone chip on a wheel arch. Yes I took a lot of time, many paint appliances and rubbing down. In the end it was invisible from all angle even up close. I guess it depends if its your car as opposed to a clients, and how much time you have.
Which polish do you think will give a more suitable and better glossy finish without hardly any holograms if applying by hand foam applicator working it for a little? It is for light-scratch removal that doesn't have any fillers and glaze? Maybe Sonax perfect finsih? Sonax 03-06? or Koch M3.02? I don't know
He has the shakiest hands! I am also wondering if the 'after' shot is actually the 'before' shot... I could clearly see the paint not fill all the scratch and would have been visible even when sanded back.
It takes 24 hours until the coating is completely dry, but now I have a new method, I use a coating that dries with a UV lamp in 3 to 5 minutes. A video with that method will be released soon
Great video the recent one you put up with the vw caddy you didn't explain what tools you were using like the fubber I haven't used one before and you used masking tape in that one. other than that it's a great video. I'm guessing you could do this technique on stone chips
You can just use wet and dry paper (used wet). After using all the papers, finishing with the very fine paper, I use a cutting compound which in my country is called T-Cut. To get best shine the paint must be fully hard. Allow two weeks for it to fully dry.
Wonderful! If the only paint I have access to is Pearl white 070 touch up (in a pen from toyota) Could I use that? With or without hardener? I Have some long scratches on the ground effects.
Nice work. Just one point of criticism though: In your final segment, the outside scene, the focal point of your video is set pretty much to infinite (the trees reflecting on the car's panel are in focus), making it harder to judge the result of your work. Auto focus will usually do this, because the trees (or any other objects reflecting on the car's panel) are pretty much the only discernable objects for auto focus to act on. Because it's hard to have your recording device focus on a car's panel, I use the following trick when I want to photograph or film a defect on the panel: put your finger right next to the point of interest, and then have your camera focus on your finger. Then lock your focus. Now you can film the car's panel with the correct focal point. Instead of a finger, you can also use for example a piece of cloth. Anything that the auto focus mechanism can "use" to set focus to the correct distance. (I hope this was somewhat clear, I'm no native English speaker).
First: this is a channel where there is no obfuscation second: it is better to do this than to have to paint the entire side third: if I wanted to hide it so it wouldn't be seen, I couldn't do it with the help of focus fourth: watch the other videos where I show with my finger from a distance of 2 cm where the lawsuit is and what is left of it until it is not noticeable from a distance of 10 cm.
@@Amddetailing this youtuber wasn't criticizing your work but instead he was giving you advice on how to record the video of the final result in order to auto focus better on the panel so your recording shows a better video distinction of the focus point that is being recorded, if this makes sense
