  • Today I'll be sitting down for a quick little chat explaining why I do not wear cheaply made work boots to work. These points can be applied to more fashion focused footwear along with work boots. Thank you for watching!

    Hey you, come back. I just found your channel and have been enjoying your videos. This one especially has really good presentation compared to some of your older ones. Would love to see more from you.

      Thanks. Would love to make some more videos but I haven’t had time recently. I should have time this fall hopefully! Also I have been busy learning leatherworking skills so I should probably make a video on that too

      Thank you! I’m good, just metaphorically traded the camera for wrenches and leather-working tools over the past year. I hope to have a video out soon and 1-2 reviews before the end of the year.

    also when you get that boot resoled...get the cobbler to put a leather midsole and raise the heel a little bit.. i think this makes the iron ranger look million times better.. and the midsole improves comfort(IMO)..look at brian the bootmakers resoles for inspiration..

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely! Midsole, Commando sole, 360deg welt conversion and possibly a storm welt instead of a standard welt so far. I’ll definitely ask about the heel!

    I'm wearing a pair of Nick's boots as I watch this video, hoping that the prolonged break will end in a month. It's no surprise that I agree with your argument for buying a better( and more expensive ) pair of boots. What most people don't realise is that every garment has a cost per wear and if you you look at the buying decision from that perspective , the " cost " of purchase is then an " investment". Most importantly it's an investment in your health and that cannot be over emphasized.

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly! Most people don’t understand how I can work 10hrs on concrete and then go home and work another 6-8hrs in my own shop without having sore feet. Quality leather footwear, theres no alternative to it.

    I usually get about 8 to 12 months from my work boots priced from 80 dollars to 130 dollars. I usually buy the Cat or Woverine work boots. I think the Iron Ranger boots look sharp.

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re awesome! If you really want the most durable work boots I’d recommend Whites, Nicks, or Trumans Uplands. Iron Rangers are still decent but nothing compares to those brands. I’ve been wearing my Truman Uplands for almost a year now and they’re absolute tanks. I think I should be able to get at least another 2 years out of them before they’ll need a resole.

    Great Review.
    Actually people are messing up their feet today because of these synthetic foam materials. Our feet were designed to be flat on a hard surface. Most people that wear running shoes have issues with their feet down the road, as well as those who love lots of Cushion on their feet.
    Ever since I started wearing Black Smith and Iron Ranagers, Zaps ⚡ at the bottom of my feet have gone away and weird, but I can walk further than before.
    Those foam inserts are trying to reshape our feet, good boots and shoes will contour to your feet and not the other way around.

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! I can go all day wearing my trumans and/or rangers with minimal discomfort on hard cement!! And then when I get home from work I spend another 3-4 hrs out in my shop. Also I have mild scoliosis and it gets really aggravated when I wear shoes with lots of foam and rubber.

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Ill be reviewing the Uplands in this video sometime soon. I still need to wear them a bit more to get them fully broken in. I hope to get another pair of Trumans in the future (maybe something in blue) so those should be fun also!

  • @frozentundra7446
    @frozentundra7446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good information. Do you wear the same boots everyday or do you rotate?

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try to switch off from my trumans every couple of days. I wear my rangers more in the summer and spring/fall if its not wet (they need a resole really badly). Sometimes Ill throw in my Thursday Captains if its going to be a lighter day as I’m trying to see exactly how durable they are. I have worn my Whites MP-Shermans to the shop here and there and got an “engine oil patina” for my efforts! When I’m at home I’ll typically wear one of my nicer pairs around the house and of course I’ll pick a nicer pair if I’m going out or hanging with friends.

    So do the boots last 2-3 years or 10 years?

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2-3 if you neglect them 10+ with minor repairs if you take care of them (and maybe one resole midway)

      Truman Cattail Grizzly Uplands, 79 last I believe? Vibram 100 sole with a 270deg goodyear storm welt.
