'I found someone' is one of favorites...but the highlight for me is Bang Bang, so powerful, so dramatic, so Cher and the vocal is incredible! RIP Sonny, great song!
SUCH a fabulous album. I found it at age 14 in 1999 and just could not get enough. It's Cher inside and out. The album just DRIPS with Bon Jovi, he was at his height then and Cher stanned him like mad, it's almost a companion album to his work at the time. I was so wild for Cher's rock era and one of those rare albums that could have had most of the songs as singles. I just found your channel today looking up the album art on this album, love it, love you, new subscriber here!
I am loving re-discovering all these Cher albums though your eyes. Her, Tina Turner and Heart were my first obsessions as a teenager in the late 80s'. All first exposed to me though good old MTV. No good music stores in my town but thankfully my older cousin took me to real records stores to discover older albums and also records me the classic back catalog of my diva's onto cassette for me. This album was of course my first Cher cassette, bought it for 7.99 with the money i made picking strawberries in the summer.
I love everything about the rock trilogy of Cher. Those three albums are iconic and Cher was at the top of her game back then. She looked and sounded so great!!!👍🏼🔥
Glad to see you liked Working Girl, which happens to be my favorite off this album! Just like Perfection (which was stated by someone else in another comment), Desmond Child also co-wrote and produced Working Girl, which explains the similarities with Living on a Prayer. He really is a genius songwriter/producer.
We're into the heart of it now! I think I'll love you forever for this series. You should absolutely without question or pause do a run-through of Wilson Phillips eponomously-titled debut album from 1990 because I promise you will love every second of it. Like everyone, can't wait for HoS next!! 🧡
This was the first album by Cher I ever heard, my mom had a cassette of it which I now have and I listened to it so much it barley plays now ❤️ my absolute favorite!
Wikipedia is incorrect on stating that Main Man was only released as a promo single in America. It was released with the B side being It's Been Hard Enough Getting Over You. I took a photo of the 45, but youtube doesn't let you upload pictures? I will try to post it on FB, but I am in FB jail right now.
Great video! I'm not a big fan of Cher's films, but definetely Silkwood and Mask are my favorites. I shate with you the dislike for The Witches of Eastwick, and I don't care much for the Moonstruck genre in general. I'd watch again Suspect. The album is objectively a great album and it's probably my favorite from the Geffen era. IT was also one of my first Cher albums. Sadly I got tired of the hits like I Found Someone and We All Sleep Alone long ago, so I don't feel the need to listen to those often. The 1987 version of Bang Bang is still one of my favorite songs. Main Man is very nice, I love it, reminds me a little of When The Love Is Goge (a song that could have been on this album instead of I Paralyze). Out of the "Living On A Prayer" songs, Working Girl is my fav (including the Hear Of Stone and Love Hurts albums too), it's an amazing song. I loved your Prisoner 2.0 description of Skin Deep. I never thought about it and now I'll never unsee it!
If you took the tine to google Living on a prayer and Perfection you would see bot h songs were co written by Desmond Child !!! This is a great album !!!!
Thank God! Now I am in familiar territory. I first heard Cher on the radio when single I Found Someone was released in Australia and went on to be a top 10 hit. It would be the album's only Top 40 single. I was also a fan of the second single We All Sleep Alone and was disappointed that it never made the top 40. Because of her voice I first thought she was a man. Forgive me, I was 12 in 1987 and was only starting to get in to music. I knew nothing. Blame Johnny Logan and Glenn Medeiross. I've since heard Laura Branigan's version of I Found Someone which was recorded first but prefer Cher's version. Wasn't Cher dating Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi at this time? Practical Magic is awesome. I have the soundtrack album.
Hey Dude Great Job,, So Main Man was about Robert and he was in the Video, If you need those movies, I have everything on MP4 I can share with you. Original MASK is very hard to find but much better than directors cut.
I have been following Cher since 1972. When this album came out my musical tastes were changing and the Bon Jovi sound wan not a thing I liked. I was not that impressed with this album. Upon reflection I do admit that it is a sharp improvement on her musical direction. Her vocals were stronger than ever and she sounded like she was actually enjoying the material she was recording. I agree that Skin Deep was an odd inclusion on the album. I feel that some of the songs on this album still suffered from record executives struggling to come to terms with their "WTF do we do with Cher attitude". Side one is very strong and consistent. Side two loses a little direction but not so much that it ruins the album. I was shocked that it was a hit, but I suspect that her new found film career had a big impact on its success. She did Perfection live on the Heart of Stone tour. I admire her Geffen years, but I find Cher at her best with less production. My favorite albums have always been the sixties records, Stars, It's a Man's World, and most of Closer to the Truth. And yes that album cover was great.
Jon bon jovi produced we all sleep alone…is. When cher was actually sleeping with Ritchie SambOra, Bon Jovi’s guitarist, you can hear the final choirs their voices
This is incorrect, she was not with Ritchie at this time, nor was she sleeping with him. She was with Rob. Jon bon Jovi did produce the song and I also believe that he is singing back up on the track. I also understand that it was Bon Jovi who had Cher do Bang Bang....I heard that Bon Jovi did this song live in concert. After all he did produce the song for her.
Cher, Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry featuring Eric Clapton "Love Can Build A Bridge". There was also a remake of "I Got You Babe" with Beavis and Butt-Head (2 animated MTV characters).
You mentioned Laura Branigan- she’s great! You should check out her greatest hits. She and Belinda Carlisle were kinda “Mini Divas” who each had half a dozen hits, but never quite became Top Tier. Taylor Dayne is another in that vein you might like her greatest hits.
This album is fine. I own it and many of the songs are on my regular rotation. Best song off of it is "I Found Someone"... I really dislike the remixed and reimagined "Bang Bang", it's not my thing... I prefer the original. Cher in the 80s is cool and I dig the rock but sometimes she's just so overshadowed by the cheesy it makes it hard to sometimes take seriously (but that's not just her... that's the 80s in general)... Does that make sense? I do prefer this sound then say her current dance-pop/clubbish sound... I dunno "3614 Jackson Highway" I still say is her best album followed by "Stars" ... But that's just my humble opinion
What is with everyone....were you a Cher fan in 1987? If so...she was not dating Richie when making this album, or when it was released. She was with Rob during this time. Look at the music videos, going to the Oscars, etc. She started to date Richie after she broke up with Rob.
I love the entire album!! Her rock trilogy was so good. Happy you enjoyed it!
The beginnings of her very best work. Now we’re going places, especially the next album!
Thank you so much for watching!

I have the single. You are correct. And there was a video too.
@@michaelmoncrief6538 Yes, they played the music video on MTV, there wouldn't be a music video airing if there wasn't a single.
