Cyndi`s voice is out of this world. The long notes of Money changes everything, the whistle note of When you were mine, the incredible pitch of GJWTHF. I think that people never really appreciated Cyndi for her amazing vocals. She is definitely one of the best pop singers out there.
Cyndi was in music since 1974 and her first album was with her band Blue Angel in 1980 so Cyndi definitely paid her dues before she got famous in 1984.
@@sherri419 Absolu Absolutely, and I love Blue Angel. She did a Fleetwood Mac cover of You Make Loving Fun, which is on cd single, very rare and collectable!
What A Thrill will be feature in the True Colors video and I didn't notice the other song until I listened to the 30th Anniversary edition on Spotify. However, that track is clearly just a demo. So, I don't think it officially counts.
I have the 30th anniversary edition CD with the pop-up display. I also have a copy of her autobiography. Worth reading! Rob Hyman went on to form The Hooters.
Hey Sal. I saw her a couple times in the 80s. Then I saw her in 1999 opening for Cher. I made a point to see Cher back then because I thought at 53, she probably wouldn't be touring again!
Fun fact: “Witness” is a song that she originally did with her band “Blue Angel,” which is the band she fronted before she went solo. They must have been looking for more material for this album and decided to use that. I actually really enjoy that song. I agree “Yeah Yeah” doesn’t seem like a fitting closer for the album, though it is fun. And as for “Goonies,” I don’t think she dislikes it anymore because she brought it back live years ago and has kept doing it. I just think it left a sour taste that they made her put “Goonies” in the title lol.
This album is acc solid I too just discovered it, I felt bad for her at first bc she didn’t find much success in her other albums but if you analyze her career it makes sense why
A great B side of hers is Heading For The Moon (B side to True Colors). I don't really like Right Track, Wrong Train, please give the other one a listen!
I'm not sure but I think Witness might be about when Cyndi was in the band Blue Angel and they decided to fire their manager so their manager turned around and sued them for $75,000, and some of the guys in the band wanted to fight the lawsuit in court which would have taken years and others just wanted to go bankrupt and move on rather than fight the lawsuit in court, Cyndi did that she went bankrupt and moved on with her career rather than waste years fighting the lawsuit in court, so I think that might be what she means when she says I don't want to be a Witness?
I think you've misunderstood When You Were Mine - it's a cover of a Prince song - it's sung from a man's perspective, Cyndi simply kept the original lyrics. Certainly in 1983 nobody even commented on the gender thing or identified this song as any kind of gay statement - because it wasn't and isn't. That's just a revision of history, put forward by today's society. We never thought of it like that back then.
I actually think I'm spot on. The choice to not change the gender of the lyrics is very evident. You may have not thought of it like that, but I'm sure many people did and still do.
Honestly He's So Unusual (which was a Helen Kane Betty Boop song originally) was kind of Betty Boop being sexually repressed, while Yeah Yeah is the sexually liberated modern Betty Boop that's why there is so much sexual imagery in Yeah Yeah and she is saying Yeah Yeah so much.
It always sounds a little weird to me when someone calls her 'Ms Lauper'. Just call her 'Cyndi' or 'Lauper'. I always thought it sounds weird if a married woman is called Ms. Outside of her working career, you could call her Mrs Thornton. She's been married for over 30 years.

I'm really learning in this journey just how great of a vocalist she is.
Can’t wait to see u do this journey. She has so many songs that weren’t hits.

Stands out
Can't wait to hear those!
You have no idea how happy I am that you’re back ! 😁
Yay! Thank you!
Hat Full of Stars is an AMAZING album. She wrote one song for Matthew Shepard.

Listen, I KNOW youre STARTING with this album BUT I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL YOU get to "BRING YA TO THE BRINK" 😊🎉❤
Because of you, I can't wat to get to it myself!
Bring Ya to the Brink and the Shine EP!

Hi Sal, Cyndi is a bit older than Madonna, she was in her 30's when she recorded She's So Unusual.
I didn't realize that!

I sang she bop all over our house and in car trips and none of us new it at the time lol. Was my favorite song at the time.
HAHAHA
"He's so unusual" is a Cover from Helen Keane (Betty Boop's voice). It is why it sounds cartoony.
How cute!

I think it's so funny that adding "Goonies" to the title made her so upset!
I'll Kiss You is like the classic Rock and Roll song Love Potion #9 from a Female POV.
Loves it!

I still have 6 albums to listen too
I know I asked in the past but I was wondering when you have the time could you do a solo spice girls album reaction ?
In the future for sure!
Props to you for supporting the work of Australian Minchin who composed Matilda!.
Sometime you have to be a little bit Naughty!
Really, "They say I better stop or I'll go blind" didn't give it away for you what Shoe Bop is about? 😜
TBH, I can't think of any time I've done the dirty deed where it made me feel like I'd go blind.

I'm sure they felt silly after "Time After Time" became a hit!
Cyndi did co-write 4 songs on the album (Time After Time and She Bop, Witness (which she did with Blue Angel) and I think I'll Kiss You.
