So “I’m Gonna Be Strong” is another song she was doing since her Blue Angel days. It was on the Blue Angel album, and then she re-recorded it for this collection. It’s a cover of a song made famous by Gene Pitney in the early ‘60s. I agree with pretty much all your comments here except I really enjoy “Come on Home” a lot, nice chill reggae vibe with a good melody. But this was the first time I’m hearing the version on the US album because I had only heard the international version before from a different comp I have. The international version is better-more focused musically with a brighter sound.
Sal, just a note on I'm Gonna Be Strong. It was an old hit, Cyndi first recorded it with Blue Angel in the 70's-1980, and before that, in the 1960's, it was a hit for Gene Pitney. Someone else also recorded it before that, but I think Pitney's version was the biggest hit version of this song.
Tim Rice wrote the English lyrics for French song The World Is Stone for the musical Tycoon. Cyndi's version was a big hit in France reaching number two!
Another great reaction. I didn't care for the long outro on "I'm Gonna Be Strong". Much like "Maybe He'll Know" off "True Colors", the original version on Blue Angel's album is more compact, less 'arty', and possibly/arguably stronger.
Can’t wait to see it! Btw since you’re doing greatest hits albums again could you one day do Whitney Houston’s The greatest hits album ... their are 4 new songs and one of them is with Deborah Cox !
Fun fact: Cyndi herself directed the very colorful music video for "Hey Now", but says MTV wouldn't play it because all the 'girls' in the video are men in drag. She says that precedent was later shattered by another artist (I forget who) so "I was ahead of my time in that regard."
This album did sell pretty well all over the world in fact it sold about 4.5 million copies around the world before it was even released in the US (it was released outside the US in 1994 but wasn't released in the US until 1995) it sold over 750,000 in the US I think maybe by now it's gone Platinum I'm not sure, it was several times platinum in many countries (like Japan, UK, Germany, etc).
By the way, here are some other Cyndi's rarities... I hope you enjoy them! When she was a little kid she would sing along to her mom's Broadway cast albums, and I mean all the parts. Her first two bands were cover bands, and she has extraordinary flexibility in her voice. Also, you do know she won the Best Origional Score Tony for Kinky Boots, right?
Are you going to do the full Shine album (which was only released in Japan) or just the EP which she sold when she toured with Cher on Cher's first farewell tour in 2002 ,Cyndi has toured with Cher 3 or 4 times the first time in 1999 and I think they've been friends since about 1986 when they first met at the VMA's.
Girl just wanna have (hey now) was also featured as the end credit for the 1995 movie too wong foo thanks for everything Julie Newmar (1995) which is about 3 drag queens get stuck in the Midwest town my mom used to watch that movie on VHS when we had a VCR now years later I still wanted the movie on dvd because the movie has a good message which means accepting the person of who they really are.
My tid bits: Hey Now probably didn't as well here in the States (big hit in the UK and Japan markets in 1994) because the video featured Drag Queens. Back then society still saw drag as a comedy piece, so not sure if America was keen on seeing drag queens in the new video that Cyndi directed. Hey Now was featured on the Too Wong Foo soundtrack. She Bop and What's Going On single versions superior to the album versions.

I loved it when she sang it live on the Today Show it's a very happy song.
The international version is better for sure!

Thanks for that info!

I've gotta listen to the Blue Angel album!
@@SalRocha Cyndi herself pretty much dismisses it, but there's several songs on that album that just kill me.

I already know the songs on it. "Hey Deb, thank you for being woman enough to come"

Cool!
Love your videos. Hope you react to The Body Acoustic. Fantastic album with some new songs and many acoustic versions of her hits.
it's on the list!

Memphis Blues. You're going to hear plenty of Learn To Live Alone styled vocals and more.
.
I grew up with cassettes.
Can't wait!

I am aware of her Kinky Boots win. However, I still believe to this day that best score should have gone to Matilda.

I actually think I prefer the album version of What's Going On
I haven't been on your channel in about a year
