- Caley sent me a Utility Iron to try. I hit it off the tee and also off the fairway. Will this club work out of the short stuff? How will it perform overall? Most importantly, is this a club you should consider playing? I hope you enjoy!

This was timely. I just ordered components from Golfworks to build a Maltby KE4 Tour FDI Hybrid / driving iron @21 degrees. Thanks for the video:)
Thank you, Ed!
How important do you think getting your clubs fitted helps your game?
It all depends on how poorly fitted your current clubs are or how well you know your specs. Without knowing what you need you could just be hoping to get lucky.
Keep both, hybrid-- fairway approach shots and 3 iron as a driving iron for certain courses
Hope you survived the recent weather
Thank you, Bradley! That's a good way to look at it!
Tried the utility irons 3-5 and can't make them work for me. Top or short on distance. It is me and not the irons. Hybrids, no problem. Your explanation helps to better understand why. Thanks.
Thank you, Gale!
You hit your hybrids accurately and effortlessly. That utility club may work very well for others but it’s not for your bag.
Thank you, Mike!
Great upload, solid striking.
Nice swing and contact.
Good that you have two viable options.
Hello from the UK MSH.
When are you coming to the UK to play our courses 👍👍👍
That would be a dream come true!
MSH, I'm toying with the idea of getting a 17 degree 3 utility from Sub70 for my son as a birthday present, but he does have a 19 degree 4 iron that he can hit pretty well (but doesn't always). Do you think the utility could be redundant, or does it seem to you like there could be gains in terms of forgiveness, distance or straightness off of the tee as compared to a standard iron? He can get a little wild with driver and his 3-hybrid will do the hybrid hook sometimes and he does play at some tree lined courses sometimes. He doesn't have a fairway wood.
I'm also considering trying to find a nice used 2021version HyWood, but that could be next experiment next year.
*Btw, if it doesn't work out great, the world won't end. There are worst disasters than a golf club that's not in the bag, no? (In other words, there's no pressure on your opinion.)
That sounds like an either or decision, and I would lean towards not having both in the Bag. Depending on his gapping, the utility could be a good club for him. If he likes irons more, it wouldn't hurt to pull out the hybrid. The gapping police may not like it, but with the longer irons, total distance becomes important. Basically, I went full circle giving permission to carry both 😆
I hit my 22° 4h pretty straight. I use it for my 2nd shots on long par 4's and par 5's. I see you have a Hywood. I'm interested in giving it a go to see if I can get more distance and the same accuracy.
Thank you so much for watching!
I like hitting utility irons off of tees but i have no confidence hitting them off the fairway or rough
That definitely makes sense to me. Thank you!
Really intresting!! i also have pretty slow swing speed, so a 3+ Hy-wood has been golden of the tee if driver is broke and from the fairway too. But would love to try utility clubs.
Thank you for watching!
it was pretty accurate for you!!!
Thank you!
I go from the Srixon 585 6 iron, to the Srixon U85 5 iron.
Thank you, Bruce!
I have so much trouble with the long irons.. wether it’s a hybrid, wood or long iron. Totally messes up my swing rhythm and balance. Something between the ears for sure.
Thank you for watching!
Very interesting. "Hit'em straight "
Thanks Arnold!
