    Heated windscreen was a Ford only thing for a long time. But I believe the patent then lapsed and then anybody could do it. It's absolutely magic, but once you notice the little "wiggly worms" on the screen you can't un-see them!

      If I remerber correctly our Ford Mondeo mk2 MY1998 used the same system. I am not sure about mk4 MY2008, but we then bought vw passat MY2011 later, that had heated windshield too, but it used transparent foil instead. Other than that it works in the same way. And I think Ford did not heated the windshield to the left&right edge, there was approx 8cm gap.

    Ford have had the heated windscreen on cars for maybe 20 years - its been a long time for others to catch up (or the patent has lapsed and others can now use it - shame not all do though) - of course it makes it a very expensive screen to replace if it cracks/breaks!

    Perhaps battery heating tops at a temperature too low for maximum charging rates. Like my ID.4 2021 that always heats the battery (no need or function specific to this purpose) but always stop warming ig at 6°C. Heating later comes from the charging process itself and can make things better for a while before reducing again when the battery tops off. I don't know if the long awaited software update will eventually improve the situation. Looks like automakers play safe at the beginning.

    12:40 Simply push a button in the app and the cabin will be preheated when you come back. You can even set a time when the cabin should be warm. ABC - App Brings Conditioning ;) Plus the car has excellent heat insulation and would be A: still warm-ish anyways after a charging stop, and B: up to temperature in 30 seconds. Absolutely no need to use any sort of preheating in that case.

    Surely if wing mirrors and front windscreens can be heated these days it’s possible to heat the radar. Self driving/ACC aren’t the only things using your radar today so do you also loose some of the safety features like AEB etc when the radar sensor is frozen up/ obstructed?
    My Land Rovers have had heated front screens since 2005 when LR was owned by Ford and it takes 30 secs to clear both front and rear screens.

    Hey there, i would we interested how an FWD EV would compare to an RWD EV uphill on an overfrozen road. Like which one would start to slip easier / which has better grip. I remember a comparison from a few years back with an Kona ev (fwd) and an ID3 (rwd) in which the ID3 did way better, it would be interesting to know if rwd ev´s would be generally better uphill in winter.

    • @ndc5544p
      @ndc5544p ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It depends on the weight distribution. Generally FWD is worse off in EVs because they are more easily balanced. A FWD ICE car would have the advantage because the engine and gearbox would sit in the front.
      The Zoe still employs a front-heavy weight distribution (60% Front and 40% Rear). The Peugeot e208 is 55/45, as well as the Kona 64kWh. The Zoe would have, with the same tires, better grip than either the e208 or the Kona on an incline. The ID.3 and cars with similar weight distribution on the other hand have the advantage that the weight shifts to the rear while accelerating or on an incline, so that will help them out.
      Bjorn has a folder in his description ("My main folder with everything") and there you click on the file called "TB test results". Under the weight tab (bottom) you can find all the weight distributions and total mass he's tested over the years. You can get an idea about how a car would handle your situation.
      So yeah, with FWD, the less weight on the front there is, the worse it's off in your situation.

    Those windshild wires are really annoying. I drove a Qashqai in the dark, headlights of oncoming traffic interfere with those wires causing light glare (diffraction?). That kind of heating is relatively low cost, used not only in Fords but also for ex. in Fiat Panda. VW has a way better solution - thin, uniform, transparent silver layer.

    Completely understandable that you'd get annoyed over the coldgating, but a drop from 90kW to 85kW isn't all that much. My iX3 is far worse, I was at Circle K this week, came there with some 10% in the battery, hooked up to a 300kW charger and got 50kW during the entire 20 minute session. THAT'S bad.

      @zaneverovati ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyliefan7 from what I've gathered from Björns videos, as well as from forums, the pre-facelift version of the iX3 (which I happen to have) never received a battery preheating option, no software solution for that. Also, as Björn mentioned in one of the videos, apparently, the battery in the iX3 is very bad at holding heat once you've stopped for a charge. In May this year, I made some 6000km through Europe and charged at relatively high speeds, anything between 85 and 150kW. But now during winter, it won't budge over 50kW, regardless of the charger. 🙄

    Don't you think the battery producers know what temperature and what's healthy charging speed for the car ? If you put to much effect in the battery then you reduce the battery life..Of course cooling and heating of the battery has an effect, but in the end they must have the best knowledge.

    Very dissapointing, now even with a new car the Nissan did not improve the cold gate issue and stays behind the older cars like Tesla, audi e-tron etcetera. They didn’t learn from the problems with the Nissan Leaf. It’s a pitty because it’s a very beautiful car.
