Mike penix was Mike Penix. He's a once in a generational talent you can put on the tape at Indiana and Washington and see. We lived and died with him won some huge games and lost in the championship when he got injured. One of the best quarterbacks I've ever seen in college football. If he had gone to Tennessee like he was supposed to he may have had two championships and a Heisman.
Well you guys will find out if loses six games this year you'll know it was Michael Penix. He was okay at Fresno state but he wasn't phenomenal he still got blown out by USC and Boise State. That's why people said we reached for him when we hired him. He just happened to know Michael Penix and that worked out great for him especially since Chris Peterson left him with four NFL wide receivers. He's good at working in the transfer portal so he better get to work soon before all your players hit the portal. He's a lousy recruiter though and a piss poor coach of the defense.
He's good enough to get a coach was 12 and 6 at Fresno State to Alabama. A good quarterback can hit a door from 30 yards away. A great quarterback can hit the doorknob. Michael Penix can hit the keyhole.
It is great to have another coach of great character and a man who loves his coaches, players, former players, alumni, and fans. I am impressed with his humility.
A coach of character wouldn't leave a program after 2 years when he convinced tons of players to transfer to UW or stay extra years etc. Just to use them for personal gain and bail the first opportunity he got.

I think he put some pieces together, coached them up and had outstanding results. Go back to the QB's he had a Fresno St.: they put up gaudy numbers every year. BTW, west coast recruiting has been extremely important to Bama's success in past seasons. Some of our best players came from that region in the last ten years.

I didn't know a lot about this man at first. They didn't look great against Mich but it was easy to see that they didn't have near the talent on the field. Wash had 15 four stars and zero five stars, and recruiting ranking around mid-twenties to mid-thirty in CFB. He's won with average talent. He will win big with superior talent. Homerun for Byrne.
