"We can't turn it into a resin channel...or can we?" - Evan 2018 me binge watching and loving their channels in 2021: interesting choice of words...interesting indeed🤔🤭
It's so fun going back and watching the original first video of yours I ever watched which made me fall down the rabbithole of all your videos plus wood working and restoration videos. So thank you! And I'm still here 4 years later???!!!
You two are ridiculously cute and your enthusiasm in this video is so awesome! Maybe an Evan and Katelyn resin channel isn't such a bad idea. We need more enthusiastic, energetic youtubers like y'all! Thanks for the resin geode ideas. The colors you used are phenomenal!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you mentioned that because we'll have another one Friday! Then we're taking a break from resin for a bit but we have a couple ideas we wanna tackle over the next couple months :)
Man, you guys rock. I hope you geodeuinely enjoy reading these Dad puns & jokes because I feel like you guys really resin-ate with the audience. #GlovesInGloves
Please please please use respirators!!! You will cause many health issues and possible allergies if you don't wear them! Set a good example for your audience too. Beautiful work guys!
@@EvanAndKatelyn I'm not kidding: I lost my sense of smell about 10 years ago when I built model trees for the adaption of "the gruffalo" using a lot of resin in the process. Never got my sense of smell back. It's not life threatening, and even sometimes helpfull, but most of the time it sucks.
Amazing job!!! The final clear coat makes a huge difference in all of the details and figure of the different colors in resin. If you don't have the power tools to make a base for the geode, you can easily make one for pretty cheap! All You need is a silicone mat/art mats/the mats that have the grids on them(not sure what they're called). You may want to get a spray on mold release if your mat is older. Just spray and let it dry completely. And silicone and a caulking gun. You can get the liquid nails brand (100% silicone) and with the caulk gun, cut a decent size of the tip of the silicone caulking and then make your geode shape. Just let the silicone dry(will vary on how thick you want your geode to be. If you're wanting a thick geode, build up your layers of silicone until you are satisfied. Then you can start playing with resin and all of the different colors you want to use. After the resin has cured, you can just remove the silicone away from the mat and art. You can get a couple of pours out of your silicone "geode shaped wall(s)".
EvanAndKatelyn No problem! You would also get two different art pieces! As the bottom side will be different from the top. Especially if you do some alcohol inks and drop the white alcohol ink over the top of any color besides gold or silver basically lol. Also, if you didnt like the way your art looked after the 24 hours, you can remove the tape earlier(when the resin is going into the tacky stage) and the buildup on the edges won't be so hard/raised. Great job!!!
TotalBoat what is the biggest difference between your product and west system epoxy? I'm using some for a few woodturning videos I'm filming and would love to know more for my next purchase.
No but there are alot of great Epoxy suppliers in the UK East Coast Fibre Glass sell a few types - www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/category/epoxy-resins and also MBFG - www.mbfg.co.uk/epoxy-resins.html
These are GORGEOUS! The only suggestion I could make would be to put some black cloth on the back of the geode with the crystals in the middle. The crystals kind of get washed out on a white wall, but if you attach some black fabric on the back behind the crystals, the crystals would REALLY pop! Either way, these are AMAZING. Thank you for sharing this with us!
You crazy kids with your myface and your fake geological artifacts. Back in my day we didn't have fancy geode art to hang on the walls. We just had potatoes and we were darn happy to have em. Those came out sooo cool! I wonder what it would look like if you glued the mdf to the top of a tupperware bowl or something and covered the bowl part in sand and rocky crust to make it look like an actual geode rather than a slice.
bahahahaha this comment is everything. POTATOES!!! We are actually experimenting a bit with doing full geodes with a "rocky" back and a couple other resin things!
Potatoes?? We would have killed to have potato art when I was a kid we had only macaroni and we were dang glad to have em, you kids and your fancy potatoes...
Before the vid got more than a minute or so in, I was thinking concrete shell (yeah, coarse/sandy outside would be awesome) and doing it on something so that there is not backing board to have a bit of translucence.
Roy Nielsen yes! Concrete shell with an LED or 2.. (or 30) in it, topped by a plexiglass-backed resin geode like these! That way the lights can shine through, like one of those crystal/geode lamps! And the concrete outer-“rock” from the concrete shell will also allow it to balance however you choose, so it can function as a table top lamp or wtv
I collect gems and minerals. I love the big one and the smallest one. Some geodes just have druse in the center and no hole ( druse is teeny tiny almost granules of crystals).... The glitter was sort of good for that....but on a small piece you could even maybe do a white pearlescent regular size glitter....or if there is a size in between. Nice project....All 3 pieces look fantastic on the wall together! ❤️

I mean this goes in hand with using non-low emitting mdf... As they huff in all the off gassing. So... It's pretty an all but then 100s of viewers start creating this and leaving environmentally toxic waste. Also hope they used UV stabilizers since it's hung right next to a window. (Yellowing alert)
Best way to glue the crystals in: hard UV resin + UV flashlight (from ebay or aliexpress). Works like magic. Unlimited fiddling time, then when lit, sets in seconds. Oh and yeah: GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
great videos but PLEASE for the sake of your HEALTH you need to have masks on when you are sanding!!! That shit in dust form will give you lung cancer! Love the videos- keep up the great work:)
You guys went from 0 to 60 to Mach 6 on the resin videos. These are really stunning results and a fantastic idea! Next (totally inadvisable) step is to retrofit your carvey with a rack of ink and resin squirting nozzles and let the machine express itself!
You should have painted the edge with lumpy dirty paint...it would have looked like the rock edge. Then your sanded edge would have looked like a cut edge and you wouldn't have sanded that edge. Less work maybe. THAT said...WOW...JUST WOW. So amazing.
😲😍🤯🤤..... Those things look so friggin amazingly gorgeous that I had to fight the urge to use expletives in my description of how good they came out! 🥰 Awesome work on the Geodes and video E&K! 👍👍👊👊

Haha thank you!!
Omg I love your channels you two are so fun to watch and your podcast as well is very informative and fun to listen to! I can’t wait to use it for inspiration
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
Nice video, but might want to use a mask when sanding epoxy ?
We should! Need to be better about that
Her shirt was so ironic, it killed me
I mean this goes in hand with using non-low emitting mdf... As they huff in all the off gassing. So... It's pretty an all but then 100s of viewers start creating this and leaving environmentally toxic waste. Also hope they used UV stabilizers since it's hung right next to a window. (Yellowing alert)
Featuring musical guests, Buttload Of Glitter!! #1 musical choice of resin artists everywhere!
Hahaha! With their popular hit, "I'm Everywhere And Theres Nothing You Can Do About It!"
They came out great but WOW! What an expensive project!
Thanks! I actually think they weren't too pricey compared to the price of geodes or the price of 3 pieces of wall art, but I guess it's all relative
Best way to glue the crystals in: hard UV resin + UV flashlight (from ebay or aliexpress). Works like magic. Unlimited fiddling time, then when lit, sets in seconds. Oh and yeah: GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the tip!
great videos but PLEASE for the sake of your HEALTH you need to have masks on when you are sanding!!! That shit in dust form will give you lung cancer! Love the videos- keep up the great work:)
We do need to! Thank you!
Hands down the best video on TH-cam to date!!!!!!
you're too kind, thank you!
I'm all out of my usual puns. I'm resined to the fact.... OH!
bahahaha!! 😂
You guys went from 0 to 60 to Mach 6 on the resin videos. These are really stunning results and a fantastic idea!
Next (totally inadvisable) step is to retrofit your carvey with a rack of ink and resin squirting nozzles and let the machine express itself!
Haha thank you!! Dude that would be AWESOME
You should have painted the edge with lumpy dirty paint...it would have looked like the rock edge. Then your sanded edge would have looked like a cut edge and you wouldn't have sanded that edge. Less work maybe. THAT said...WOW...JUST WOW. So amazing.
That's a great idea! We'll have to try that sometime! Thank you 😁😁
Do you know what gilding paint they've used ?
😲😍🤯🤤..... Those things look so friggin amazingly gorgeous that I had to fight the urge to use expletives in my description of how good they came out! 🥰 Awesome work on the Geodes and video E&K! 👍👍👊👊
Hahahaha thank you so much!!! We may have used some expletives off-camera when expressing to each other our love for them too! :P
You could do with pinning safety info at the top of each thread> So dangerous without chemical fume masks!
This is a GREAT video! I just discovered epoxy videos and bought my MDF today to start playing!
Thank you! Omg have fun, but beware, epoxy is addicting!
it's so weird to see E&K trying to act "normal"
Nice....you guys just gave me a sweet idea for making jewelry boxes.....resin art for the lids!!....Great job guys!!
That's a perfect use for resin art! Good luck!
