Andy Fox Why not? This was the first real Dragon Ball game we got in the West. There was Dragon Power for the NES but that was reskinned for us because most of us didn't watch or read Dragon Ball.
There were 2 codes One unlocked some characters and changed the main screen image to Vegito I think but this one unlocked EVERYTHING and changed the image to SSJ4 Goku I think.

My cousins and I decided to just ignore the regular combat stuff and decide to just to beam struggles or meteor smash battles. That was how we made this somewhat enjoyable.
- Countering Goku SSJ4's KamehamehaX10 with Pan's double little energy spheres almost cost me a friendship. - I bullied my little cousin who was scared by Super Baby and only used Super Baby against him. - After hearing Vegetto, me and my best friend started to annoy our relatives by talking in unison. This is the game that actually got me into imports. in 1997. I didnt know there was an english version until much later (and the japan one was still super cheap. yeah, of course the game is bad, but 2 things actually made this super playable. 1- Power struggles. if you did a super special standing point blank, you did a short animation and fired. If you were half-screen plus, there was actually a small cut scene that gave the opponent a choice: absorb at the cost of energy (no damage), deflect for minor damage, mash triangle for power struggle. a few friends and i just got a kick outta mashing the shit outta the button and we all figured out this crazy finger spasm twitch that outperformed any turbo. 2- i'm not sure if the english version had this, but the japanese one had a character building/training mode. just like the show, you could train your character to make moves stronger. depending on the move you used (and how strong the oppoonent was) you could build up the power of one move while the others stayed the same/weak. my friends and i would pass the game around for a week or two each to train a character, save the progress, then let another friend borrow to train. When we hung out later, we'd all use our mystery trained characters to fight and you never knew what moves were powered, everyone had their own training methods for different results, and usually there was touch of death moves (literally one hit KO even between 2 level 30 characters). examples- one friend focused on big power moves (their energy charge was massive), one would train tiny fireballs, and i usually opted for something more subtle like crouching punch/kick. Literally fighting and they toss out a random move where one hit would drain 2-3 health bars. Definitely a fun game for a short spell.
SLiMmcl tekken 3 was garbage I didn't like Tekken until 4 and 5 I was hooked on umk3 for years and this game cause it was the bets Dragonball game we got in a long time that wasn't just punch, kick, or ki blast and that's it.
I remember when i had this my friend gave it me he got it from overseas and only way it would play is if I left my ps1 open and a pencil stuck in the spot where the lid was supposed to latch and I loved every minute of it
One thing this game did that no other dragonball game did was build up tournament mode where u could train with a character and the more you used that character the more powerful they became. The more physica attacksl you used the more damage they would do the next time you used that character, The Same same went for ki blast. And The more damage you to the more health you would gain next time you used that character. Then you and a friend could pit your characters agent's each other and see who's character is stronger. Me and my friend used to spend tons of time training or character and each week we would pit them against each other. I rember having my basic ki blast so powerful I would one shot my friends character who had 11 health bars lol they never added a train your character type mode in any other dbz game that I know of
Did somebody tell him the history of Baby afterwards, or do we need it to explain him? Beacuse, if nobody did, here is the *Abridged* version : Saiyans took over a planet, the inhabitans created Baby, he was found by a scientist, defeated by Kid Goku and co, killed the scientist, went to Earth, took over the entire Earth and all it's inhabitants, took over Vegeta, fought and ALMOST killed Goku, fought Goku and co. AGAIN, defeated them, made Goku lose control and go SSJ4, then he went into a Great Ape form, was defeated and killed by Goku when he was launched into the Sun. Baby is the best GT villain, by far with no competition. And NO : Super 17 and Omega are not good villains.
Doesn't matter, Max is just doing a drive-by. Btw, did they explain why baby's clothes also got big in ozaru form? And the first time I saw an SSJ4 was through this game, a loong loong time ago..
If you Play the Game in Hard Mode without getting defeated, you'll gonna fight Super Saiyan 4 after beating Super Baby and getting the All Characters Photos at the Ending and Unlock SSj4 Goku as well.
This intro is better than the whole entire game itself. It is funny considering that it looks like they did spend the whole entire Budget on this fantastic intro.
Most Dragon Ball "fighting" games are bad. Budokai/Tenkaichi games are probably at the top in terms of regard/quality but that's mainly because of presentation (long story modes, large roster size, special attack animations, etc.), from a technical standpoint those games are okay and haven't aged well. Dragon Ball FighterZ will easily be the best Dragon Ball Fighting game ever. In my opinion the better Dragon Ball games, aside from Budokai and Tenkaichi, are the non fighters; Games like Legacy of Goku 1 and 2, Buu's Fury, Dragon Ball Origins 1 and 2, Attack of the Saiyans, Fusions, etc.
Man, I remember renting an OG copy of this as a kid, and having no idea who half the cast were. I think when this came out, we were still in the Saiyan or Frieza saga?
Yea I had the same thing, except it was transparent yellow plastic in my case lol. It looked like a Gameshark but it just let you play imported Japanese game. I also had a Gameshark too :D
Yeah, my buddy who had all the video games growing up had this same shit. He let me borrow it for awhile, and I remember just spamming SSJ4 Goku's fast attack and basically on moving everything in the game.
Man, I remember playing this game to death as a kid. We didn't even have DragonBall GT in Germany at this point so Little Goku and Baby confused the shit out of me
Looks like he's playing a re-release copy. I still have an original release copy. It is a very old game for ps1 and the controls was stupid hard. Game play was clunky, BUT it had one awesome feature no other has had yet and they need it... A mode where you can pick a character you like and keep getting them stronger for what seemed endlessly based off how you fought.
I don't honestly get why everyone says Final Bout is the worse DB game... The game itself is great if you compare it to the other crappy DB games of that time, back before the 2000s. I mean, maybe that's just me, but I honestly can't see how ya'll think the rest crappy DB games are better than this one. I often think it's just hated because it's GT based which also everyone hates and I love, so whatever.
Ivan West the original japanese version of DBGT is classic underrated awesomeness. But this game, as well any dragon ball game before Budokai 3 is just shit.
This game was released in the US in 1997. At the time, the dub was still in first-run syndication, hadn't even started airing on Toonami yet, and was still on the *Vegeta* saga Imagine being a DBZ fan in 1997 and seeing this on the shelf. It would have blown your mind. And this was before subs and scanlations were a huge thing
I used to rent it from blockbuster and basically stole it after a few rentals. I thought it was the greatest game ever. Music, voice, artwork... I loved it. Being able to custom train moves and turn a simple punch into explosive one hit kill was amazing. Hilarious in hindsight.
I remember a Dbz game I played as a kid where I spammed kick so much that the game was like a rpg fighter and after a few days my kick move would one shot like 6 life lines.. I wish I remembered which one it was.. I feel like it’s final bout.. but I coulda swore the game in thinking of for ps1 or 2 had a character creation option
I absolutely love this game even till this day. I don't know who did the artwork, but this was probably the best that any of the Dragon Ball characters have ever looked. Every character looked amazing in their character select artwork.
Yeah those who don't know how the combo system works and how a few of the other mechanics work are the ones who don't like this game. All of the Gokus and Vegito have the best combos where you can completely stagger lock the computer. Vegito and Goku are the only characters that I was able to stagger lock Great Ape Baby Vegeta with without any problems. And to get SSJ4 Goku you have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty without losing a single fight.
The training mode made this game the best in my opinion. Your character became stringer through actual practice and execution. Your ki blast got stronger the more you used it. You also gained defense to whatever attack you are hit by the more you are hit by it. You get more health the more health you lose. I had a ssj4 goku who could kill anyone with one ki blast because he trained that a shit ton. Literally years of training. No dbz game has had that since to this degree
Michael Waring that is funny, I don’t blame the actors by any means, the directors probably didn’t really know anything about the series etc.. and directed them poorly lol.
What was that ps1 dbz game that you controlled 3 characters at once? I can't remember it. It was in Japanese. I remember having a disc i would put in the ps1 then you can pop in the Japanese games. Man this was years ago and I have a bad memory lol
At the title screen press triangle 9 times then square 9 times to unlock goku súper saiyan 4 😜😜😜🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 also press right left down up right left down up for bonus characters
Meteor Attack = R1 forward then the following buttons are pressed to make combos. Square and triangle: strokes Triangle and circle: kicks Triangle and X: Unblockable special move (these combos can be used as a counterattack if a meteor attack is received)
I'm one of the weirdest people ever cause I liked this game lol and liked it better than any Budokai game. Objectively it's really bad. I think I was one over with the soundtrack, GT-ness (which I adored) and the opening animation and song. I still bump this game's soundtrack
The only good Dragon Ball game for the PS1 was DBZ Legends (PS1), DBGT was cool for me because of the graphics and I loved the animation during Special Attacks. DBZ Ultimate Battle 22 is beyond terrible. DB Legends was awesome and was beyond it's time with tag team battle scheme, where you could fight with different allies and enemies at the same time, things that we see with Xenoverse and Kakarot nowadays
The best part of this game was discovering Ss4 Goku without cheats, imagine this: as a kid you beated this game's arcade Mode, so you go to audio gallery... And hear a unknown badass track, so decided to find its owner you go to Career mode, where you lvl Up your char. In the end, you beat Vegetto (the last fighter) and think "so thats It?" Lol no here's Ss4 Goku with that badass theme have fun! But you didn't find a way to unlock It... Until you beat arcade Mode on hard without loosing, where you have 1 chance to best him and unlock him. As a kid i found that story quite badass.
I bought this for 129 bucks when i was 15 and forced myself to get good at it thinking it was expensive because it was good.....I've never been so sad.
Back in 1997, this game was pretty special especially for a Dragon Ball game. You could build your favorite character so strong, you could kill your opponent with one single punch and the meteor combos were epic lol. You could also save your character to your memory card and own your friends. Good times.
English voice acting before and after the fight, but not during. Truly the seal of a quality fighting game.

Baby's mouth has a chance to hang open at his intro and it makes it so much dumber. Like he's proud of the ridiculousness of the situation.
I bought this at a garage sale as a youngster. I immediately knew why it was worth 25 cents lol
Same. I can't remember how much I paid for it but it wasn't much. I still had a blast with it tho.
SLiMmcl if you were my child back then, i would've grounded you for bringing this shitty game home, AND for wasting 25¢.😆🤣😂😠😬😡
lmao but i also had tekken 3 so my taste wasnt that bad lol
This game was cost 150$ when I was a kid. U got a good deal.
SLiMmcl tekken 3 was garbage I didn't like Tekken until 4 and 5 I was hooked on umk3 for years and this game cause it was the bets Dragonball game we got in a long time that wasn't just punch, kick, or ki blast and that's it.
10:43 what buu said pretty much sums up the gameplay
I remember when i had this my friend gave it me he got it from overseas and only way it would play is if I left my ps1 open and a pencil stuck in the spot where the lid was supposed to latch and I loved every minute of it
Yes! I thought I was the only one who had to do this!
I used a small spring. Lol
I rember having my basic ki blast so powerful I would one shot my friends character who had 11 health bars lol they never added a train your character type mode in any other dbz game that I know of
I'm pretty sure I've seen this comment in another video....
Did somebody tell him the history of Baby afterwards, or do we need it to explain him? Beacuse, if nobody did, here is the *Abridged* version :
Saiyans took over a planet, the inhabitans created Baby, he was found by a scientist, defeated by Kid Goku and co, killed the scientist, went to Earth, took over the entire Earth and all it's inhabitants, took over Vegeta, fought and ALMOST killed Goku, fought Goku and co.
I’ve always thought that Baby was an intriguing villain as he was the living embodiment of karma.
If i remember correctly, you can either block, deflect or clash the ultimate moves.
Man everyone playing that horrible English dub of this game and not the superior Japanese dub. Biggest fight is one of the best Dragonball songs.
Tell me...would it make the game any better
If you Play the Game in Hard Mode without getting defeated, you'll gonna fight Super Saiyan 4 after beating Super Baby and getting the All Characters Photos at the Ending and Unlock SSj4 Goku as well.
This intro is actually way better than the whole Dragon Ball Super series. This intro is fucking nostalgic and wonderfully made!
Kinda sucks they cut the original Japanese music though
Proud to say rented this at Blockbuster back in the day and never took it back
"91% of Google users like this game"
Is someone lying on the internet again?
I'm just disagree with legacy of goku 1. That one was trash
Man, I remember renting an OG copy of this as a kid, and having no idea who half the cast were. I think when this came out, we were still in the Saiyan or Frieza saga?
I remeber when I got the Japanese one and I have to put this blue thing in back of my ps1 and keep the ps1 open with this spring thing lol
Yea I had the same thing, except it was transparent yellow plastic in my case lol. It looked like a Gameshark but it just let you play imported Japanese game. I also had a Gameshark too :D
Yea I had that. You had to put in a normal game, wait until the disc stopped spinning, and swap out the japanese game.
Oh man the good old days
lolll
Yeah, my buddy who had all the video games growing up had this same shit. He let me borrow it for awhile, and I remember just spamming SSJ4 Goku's fast attack and basically on moving everything in the game.
25:30 Max's reaction though xD
Man, I remember playing this game to death as a kid. We didn't even have DragonBall GT in Germany at this point so Little Goku and Baby confused the shit out of me
I watched GT myself and even I was confused, because why did it skip right to the Ape Baby fight?
15:18 Max-"I think I'll go ham on you now" *proceeds to slowly walk up to Cell and awkwardly kick him to no fault of his own lmao
SUPER LITTLE GOKU, BRO IM DEAD
zeokenX wtf did i just read? Lmao.
RIP
I appreciate this, because it was uploaded on my birthday. Thanks Max!!
Boom boom boom I want dragon ball in my room
When it came out it was one of the only DB games we ever got over here, lol. I still got nostalgia for it even though I know it's a clunky game ;)
Ivan West come on man. I used to love this game when I was kis, but I tried it lately and it's really terrible
Nah, DBZ Legends wasn't a masterpiece but it still shits on Final Bout.
Ivan West because they are idiots and forgot tht other games like ulimate tenchi was made and other ds games and segas
Ivan West the original japanese version of DBGT is classic underrated awesomeness. But this game, as well any dragon ball game before Budokai 3 is just shit.
Always loved Super Baby's menacing intro. He stares into your soul while a finale like music is playing.
I just have to say that this was very fun to watch. Watching you exploit the AI was something magical.
This game was released in the US in 1997. At the time, the dub was still in first-run syndication, hadn't even started airing on Toonami yet, and was still on the *Vegeta* saga
Imagine being a DBZ fan in 1997 and seeing this on the shelf.
Lmao imagine this at EVO
You know? I have always fantasized about you playing through this game. Thank you so much, Max. I loved this video!
You can tell Max know nothing bout Dragon Ball
Victor Evans he knows enough..
and he doesnt pretend to know,
Ok ok ok
Huhnet So you never watched it but its an abomanation? The internet is so much fun
It was probably Final Bout, they had a mode in which you could level up your moves
What is wrong with the intro music? Oh god...
How come the fighting portion is in japanese but the rest is bad english, lmfao.
Funny that you should say that since this game's dubbed Goku is actually voiced by none other than the legendary Steve Blum!
Legends.
At the title screen press triangle 9 times then square 9 times to unlock goku súper saiyan 4 😜😜😜🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 also press right left down up right left down up for bonus characters
Jose Estrella lol...the classic code.
Meteor Attack =
R1 forward then the following buttons are pressed to make combos.
Square and triangle: strokes
Triangle and circle: kicks
Triangle and X: Unblockable special move (these combos can be used as a counterattack if a meteor attack is received)
The intro looks good.
Here in Philippines we Enjoy that Game, Specially when we are doing a Beam Struggle and a Meteor Combos.
YES!! ENJOY THE SUFFERING!!!
You can see his internal suffering. Max is an hero.
24:44 Every non-DB fans' reaction to the recent FighterZ DLC announcement.
I remember super leveling my character and one hitting my friends that wanted to play the game. This game and jedi power battles i played alot.
I'm one of the weirdest people ever cause I liked this game lol and liked it better than any Budokai game. Objectively it's really bad. I think I was one over with the soundtrack, GT-ness (which I adored) and the opening animation and song. I still bump this game's soundtrack
Your not alone. the soundtrack is sick. the gameplay is trash for now but it was enjoyable back then. i loved it too honestly
Too bad Max never heard Super Saiyan 4 Goku's theme on this game. The song was GODLIKE.
What is worse?
This game or Dragon Ball Evolution (PSP)?
Taiketsu
This
Wasn't Evolution just a re-skinned version of Infinte Road? If that's the case there's no way it can be worse than Final Bout.
Yeah, Evolution was a reskinned Budokai. Gameplay wise, it's pretty good.
Dragon ball sagas is #1 hands down
The only good Dragon Ball game for the PS1 was DBZ Legends (PS1), DBGT was cool for me because of the graphics and I loved the animation during Special Attacks. DBZ Ultimate Battle 22 is beyond terrible. DB Legends was awesome and was beyond it's time with tag team battle scheme, where you could fight with different allies and enemies at the same time, things that we see with Xenoverse and Kakarot nowadays
Go search for the Japanese intro, it's loads better.
Oh no.... the American intro, the English voice acting.... you had one job, Max.
Gradma Goku isn't better.
The Japanese music is though.
Grandma Goku is 10x better than Steve Blum
What was that music during the intro? Don’t tell me that’s what it sounded like in the English version?
Still better than Ultimate Tenkaichi.
I bought this for 129 bucks when i was 15 and forced myself to get good at it thinking it was expensive because it was good.....I've never been so sad.
Game based on GT, doesn't have the GT villains but the ones from Z. Fuck this game for real.
Back in 1997, this game was pretty special especially for a Dragon Ball game. You could build your favorite character so strong, you could kill your opponent with one single punch and the meteor combos were epic lol. You could also save your character to your memory card and own your friends. Good times.
