This isn't the first time she bullied Dan. In Gem Fighter, she became his student and learned his style, just so she couldn't forget and call his style "retarded".
It looks like when an arcade fighting game would get ported to the 16/32 bit systems and the background turns flat and undetailed as a result to work with the hardware. Except CFE just straight up looks like THIS.
I like how they went well out of their way to make Ryu as accurate to Super Turbo as possible, apart from that CvS2 sprite. Then Bison, who is also supposed to be the Super Turbo version has his teleport. Chun Li is a Third Strike character? Did they pick the roster out of a hat?
Don't know if anyone else noticed, but the end of Bison's Scissor Kick super looks like he's walking up the opponent to dropkick them in the face. The only other place I remember seeing that? The Street Fighter EX series.
It's kinda sad because there was originally gonna be sf1 characters which tbh, I would rather have that over third strike characters despite that was my favourite SF game

Well hey, at least there was ONE bright side to this game.... It gave Mugen players a pretty nice screenpack. Come to think of it.... This game is just basically Capcom's own compilation Mugen roster, it has just as much thought put into the balance.... Which is to say, there was no thought there. =V
Several people have mentioned something like this before, but I believe a re-imagined version of this could be good. Imagine taking only the Capcom characters from the VS series' games and doing a new fighter with 3D graphics that cherry-picks system aspects from the VS games. It could be 2V2 like most of the VS games. All the characters could have VS-style mobility with dashes and super jumps. Any attack (or almost any attack) could cancel into a super--and so on. And they could provide a roster similar to this one where a few characters from some of the more popular franchises/games could represent each one. While I'm watching this video, TH-cam's recommended/suggested videos is showing me a thumbnail for one of Max's Project: Justice videos on YoVideogames; bring a couple of characters from there into it with new 3D sprites/art. New characters could either be unlocked via shop (like the home version of MVC2) or done as DLC. I dunno. Just throwing some ideas out there because I think many of us recognize that the concept had great potential but the execution was far too disappointing.
It wasn't a bad time. In '96 Capcom released Alpha 2 and X-Men vs Street Fighter- both huge arcade hits. Red Earth/Warzard was Capcom's 1st game on their powerful CPS3 board. Even the mighty Saturn with a 4MB RAM cart couldn't deliver this perfectly and was the only console that could've hoped to at the time. A Dreamcast release would've been nice though. Well, at least Tessa got featured in more games!
I remember gamespot interviewing Ono before this game's release, and being the company man, had to hype up the game and say why it's an innovative game and a worthy tribute to Capcom's fighting history. You could tell that he was low-key trying to keep his composure saying all that bullshit. I wouldn't be surprised that after the interview, he went straight to the bar.
I remember getting this game back in like 2009 for super cheap at a game stop thinking it was was Capcom vs snk 2. Boy was I disappointed lmao. I remember being mad this game didnt feel like a Street fighter and some of the other Capcom characters and stages looked modded. The character select screen made me wanna throw the CD out the window
Same for the mostly forgotten SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, where he was a sub-boss character. It wasn't a bad game, but it felt unfinished, the stages use desaturated colors, the characters are unbalanced, the bosses were ridiculously overpowered and had nigh-omniscient a.i. (except Athena, who is very predictable in spite of her high-damaging attacks), and it was nearly impossible to get to the Athena fight or the Red Arremer (also known as Firebrand) fight without save states (since you can't lose a single round), and you only have one chance to defeat them.
The reason why it seems so much easier to win with Ryu is because he's an "SF2" character, all of the SF2 characters do more damage than the other charcters, and their supers do 40% damage easy, Sakura, being an Alpha character, sucks, Alpha was gimped hard in this game, CC was practically worthless and their supers did no damage. I never understood why they just didnt make all of the characters fight with the same mechanics instead of tying them to the game they originated from. Completely dumb. Half of the roster was worthless.
GamerBear Yea it was a terrible idea. I really was excited for this game when I first stumbled upon it at GameStop back in the day but boy was I instantly disappointed. Lol
Essentially, they threw everyone in with their mechanics and didn't think to either balance that shit, make a groove system like CvS2, or just give every character the same mechanics. Now I wonder if the final boss being Pyron was because Capcom was too lazy to make an actually difficult boss, so they threw in a character with the most OP mechanics in as the final boss
Yea they could have done so much better with the game, it was essentially a copy paste job with literally no thought behind it, probably took them a a few months to make, if that. Im pretty sure they just said what the hell and said fuck creativity (like they did with the rest of the game)and said lets just throw in a random final boss from a previous game and chose Pyron for no real reason at all except that he was broken. They also put Shin Akuma in as a "secret" final boss.....how original.
@Maximilian Dood Does anyone know if Capcom Fighting Jam was unfinished? I feel like it was considering the roster and how hastily this game was put together. Maybe Capcom can do a new version of this game for PS4 and actually finish the game and make it more refined?
xxnike629xx it's not so much unfinished as it came out at a time when Viacom was basically done with fighters, but they slapped this shit together on the cheap to shut people up. Max is wrong about this game killing street fighter, it exists because street fighter was already dead
A Capcom crossover game without Morrigan. You know things are gonna hit the fan and go to the bottom of the barrel when that happens. I mean say what you will about Morrigan's inclusion in crossovers, but she's pretty much the main character keeping the Darkstalkers rep alive. She's pretty much the Chun-Li of the Darkstalkers series and it just feels weird not having her in. Good to see Demitri make it in a crossover though
For those who may not remember Shin Akuma (Gouki) is in this game as the secret (unlockable) final boss after Pyron. If I remember, you have to at least get 4 or 5 perfect finishes and perform 4 special KOs and beat Ingrid.
Wait... so does that mean if you meet all the requirements except fighting Ingrid (which as shown in this episode does happen) you get the middle finger? Or do you complete the requirements than get a forced Ingrid fight?
Ono: "wow, people don't like fighting games?" the exact mentality that Capcom still has to this day. it's not because they make bad games, it's that people don't like them, of course...
You think Ono's Capcom's CEO or something? He's just a producer. He has no say in what Capcom wants to make. Remember Capcomstill refuses to make DS4 despite Ono's requests. It actually wasn't his fault how this game turned out. After All-Stars was cancelled Capcom ordered them to salvage production cost from that game by rushing in to make this game. The game's staff themselves hated working on it.
good job doing your research, anyway, i wasn't putting the fault on Ono, i was just using that quote as an example to show the usual Capcom way of doing bad PR and justifying a game's failure.
*Original plan:* Make an awesome, 3D game with new and old characters from across the Capcom multiverse, such as Mike Haggar from _Final Fight._ *What actually happened:* _MUGEN_ locked in team mode. On the bright side, Demitri's Midnight Bliss transformations are pretty good.
Literally all of the Red Earth / Warzard characters need to be in something, fucking I don't know, the next vs Capcom, a Red Earth 2 or just shove them straight into Darkstalkers lore ala Tekken 7. Oh, what's that? Capcom ain't listening? Alright, ok, I tried.
Thank god I have a Pandoras Box, has all the CPS3 games including Red Earth. That's the only way to 'own' Red Earth at this point, or try to emulate it via MAME.
Man, it was more entertaining to hear your godly opinions on this Trainwreck game than the actual gameplay, well done! Also, by "Original Xbox controller" did ya mean the Duke or the Controller S?
i have nostalgia for this game. i really liked it. i realise now it was supremely lacking but i still sorta enjoy it. it was the first time i ever played as alex and any of the red earth characters
I remember buying this when it came out and being pissed off.. Capcom never redid sprites for the alpha characters being thrown in.. Dark stalkers either.. The scale, sounds, & everything was jacked.. Seemed like someone threw together a mugen build
Ok, guys. Imagine if in every single Capcom crossover game instead of Ryu it was Chun Li appearing in those games and it's too the point the people think she's the main character of the game. Now imagine you playing this game and actually seeing Ryu in it. That's the same situation in Dark Stalkers.
The fighting game hiatus is over exaggerated. It was only 4 years until we got SFIV. Keep in mind SFIV was being made long before 2008 release so I don't think Capcom took that long of a break. It was probably just a good time since Ono had more clout in Capcom and new management was shifting at that time.
I remember buying this game when it first came out. I was like... Holy CRAP! A new Capcom fighting game that just totally flew under my radar and has Dark Stalkers AND Red Earth characters?!! I returned this s#!% immediately (-_-;)
I got the soundtrack to this game a year ago and love it, even though I only finally got to play it a few months ago and have to agree that it is pretty much butt.
Man, I was there the year Capcom unveiled this game at NorCal Regionals. I was happy to finally see more Darkstalkers get the spotlight for a change. Karin V-ism standing forward+HP spam was insanely broken!
At least the fighting was fast paced considering. Plus some of the soundtrack is decent to me and memorable. Like the main menu, or the first stage Max fought.

From Asura's Wrath: Asura, Yasha, Deus, Augus, Wyzen, Sergei, Olga
From Street Fighter and other franchises? That will go on forever so reply your own characters
Great comment man.
Capcom MUGEN evolution
Max, be fair. This was not Ono's game. He was chosen to take over as producer, half way through, and salvage what he could.
Kind of miss red earth.
Simon Pires Never got a home release. EVER.
Simon Pires
It's a hidden gem for sure. Just a bad time for Capcom to release an arcade fighting game.
SuperKokuJin916
Wasn't she in Puzzle Fighter and SvC?
Simon Pires I'd buy that in a heartbeat if it gets a decent home release. I think the password system did turn off others from this game as well
I remember gamespot interviewing Ono before this game's release, and being the company man, had to hype up the game and say why it's an innovative game and a worthy tribute to Capcom's fighting history. You could tell that he was low-key trying to keep his composure saying all that bullshit. I wouldn't be surprised that after the interview, he went straight to the bar.
The fact that the Red Earth characters aren't in any of the MVC games is astounding considering how cool they are.
That E. Honda in the backgroud is huge in comparison with the fighters.
I can't stop looking at that tall E Honda in the out of proportion background.
Isn't E. Honda supposed to be 6'1"?
This Game Looks So Weird As Hell!
Tiffany Kloss it is.
It's just an official Mugen...but way worse.
+xWagnerPlaguesx kind of like how CVS is official Mugen, but better (at least in my opinion)
The only thing i like about this game is that they added demitri, the supposedly "main character" of darkstalkers if im not mistaken...
But without the MB.
This is the first Capcom fighter I ever bought
It was cheap and it sounded neat
I did play better games before it thanks to emulators, don't worry

Does anyone know if Capcom Fighting Jam was unfinished? I feel like it was considering the roster and how hastily this game was put together.
Maybe Capcom can do a new version of this game for PS4 and actually finish the game and make it more refined?
xxnike629xx it's not so much unfinished as it came out at a time when Viacom was basically done with fighters, but they slapped this shit together on the cheap to shut people up. Max is wrong about this game killing street fighter, it exists because street fighter was already dead
@Benadryl Thundercrotch
👍
Viacom made fighters? Wen my Spongebob fighting game?
I played Street Fighter x Tekken and Capcom Fighting Jam as well. Sometimes I imagine that Yun is like Hwoarang.
If this didn't have a physical release, you would think its somebody's first MUGEN project.
True shit buddy lol
And now it’s back
Welp, we ain't escaping this game anytime soon, lmao
It’s literally coming back 😂
A Capcom crossover game without Morrigan.
Even the main logo of the game is a copy and paste from Crazy Taxi....
That's because Sega had something to do with this game.
Ono: "wow, people don't like fighting games?"
the exact mentality that Capcom still has to this day. it's not because they make bad games, it's that people don't like them, of course...
No, it came out in summer 08 in Japanese arcades. Then a year later on consoles
*Original plan:* Make an awesome, 3D game with new and old characters from across the Capcom multiverse, such as Mike Haggar from _Final Fight._
*What actually happened:* _MUGEN_ locked in team mode.
On the bright side, Demitri's Midnight Bliss transformations are pretty good.
EXACTLYYYYYY like I wanted the 3D one they were doing around that time :( Makes me mad they didn't go through with it and we ended up with this ;-;
Literally all of the Red Earth / Warzard characters need to be in something, fucking I don't know, the next vs Capcom, a Red Earth 2 or just shove them straight into Darkstalkers lore ala Tekken 7.
Oh, what's that? Capcom ain't listening? Alright, ok, I tried.
Thank god I have a Pandoras Box, has all the CPS3 games including Red Earth. That's the only way to 'own' Red Earth at this point, or try to emulate it via MAME.
GamerBear that would be a really interesting concept 🤔
I love how there's so much shit Sakura is featured in.
Watching this game be played is just as frustrating as playing it. Thanks Max for making this enjoyable lol
So no Morrigan but Felicia's here... Well I'll bet Ryu has 34 good reasons why he fights John Talbain for his end.
13:24 - That sun looks like Joseph Stalin.
I consider this pretty decent but the fact that it wakes me up every night whenever I remember this gives me feeling of what could have been.
They should have just given us a console port of Red Earth instead of this shite cross-over game
Shaddup
You’re not gonna believe this….
Man, it was more entertaining to hear your godly opinions on this Trainwreck game than the actual gameplay, well done! Also, by "Original Xbox controller" did ya mean the Duke or the Controller S?
When you realize Max's theme is Sakura's theme song
i have nostalgia for this game. i really liked it. i realise now it was supremely lacking but i still sorta enjoy it. it was the first time i ever played as alex and any of the red earth characters
Kenji vs. Kenshi
I remember buying this when it came out and being pissed off.. Capcom never redid sprites for the alpha characters being thrown in.. Dark stalkers either.. The scale, sounds, & everything was jacked.. Seemed like someone threw together a mugen build
IF Capcom would have redrawn ALL the sprites it would have been tolerable
If they had money, we could've had more characters like a Street Fighter 1 Cast.
RIP Retsu in Capcom Fighting Jam
I remember this game when I played it with my mom she always played as Felicia, I actually liked this game as a kid.
Ok, guys. Imagine if in every single Capcom crossover game instead of Ryu it was Chun Li appearing in those games and it's too the point the people think she's the main character of the game. Now imagine you playing this game and actually seeing Ryu in it. That's the same situation in Dark Stalkers.
And this game is back to menace the people once again lol
Honestly, I REALLY wanted to see a Ryu vs Talbain since forever.
Heck even have a Ryu and Talbain team.
Why is Sakura fighting Lisa Lisa from Battle Tendency?
My first PS2 game......
I was so excited for this game back in the day. What a disappointment. :/
This game...this game looks like Capcom was trying to be KoF.
Hey, look! It's that Capcom's official M.U.G.E.N. game!
I mean it's not perfect, but i've always liked this game, and I always will.
chocolatesasquatch yeah its just nostalgia i guess
This game is my guilty pleasure
This was my first street fighter game. I never played another till giving 4 a shot
Jon Talbain/Gallon needs to be in more games.
At least the fighting was fast paced considering. Plus some of the soundtrack is decent to me and memorable.
Like the main menu, or the first stage Max fought.
