If you want obscure rs history. On the release of rune armour and weapons. We all know bluerose had the ability to make plate bodies. And she made a killing off it. What most people fail to mention is there was alot of bluerose impersonators hut thats alteast kind of known, jmods would ban or mute anyone trying to scam that was. But the jmods also banned alot of her competition. I had 2 high level accounts, my current one that was mostly a pker but could make most of the rune items, and my then main, that could make anything 98 and below. I was offering the services of, making rune items a few ways. 1) straight up buy the item with gp, ofc the most expensive option. 2) trade the runite ore and/or coal, price depended on how short you were with the ores, if you only traded coal you paid alot more than only runite, if you traded enough of both to make said item it was only a medium amount of gp. If you had to wait for me to make it it was less. Demand was high. 3) My preffered, trade the bars and a small amount of gp, cost less if I had to make it after due to stock shortages. I always endeavoured to have the items traded in the same window, or make them before the trade. It just made it easier. But I always delivered. Was well on my way to 99, was I think about 12hrs of work away from it. Then I got muted for "scamming players as only bluerose had the ability to make runite gear" I did try argue when being told this. Well after being muted I paid some dude on an irc chat room full rune and I think it was about 3m, alot at the time. To basically offer my services. Turns out that was my final warning. Probably less than 100k off of 99 and I was perma banned....for...scamming only bluerose can make runite gear. I did try use my then Pk account to appeal it, even got some past customers to stick up for me. Nope account still banned and apparently at some point all stats and progress wiped. Only found that later part out about 5 years ago when I FINALLY got the account unbanned....I'm on tutorial island. Bluerose was this highly protected player where unless you knew a jmod you couldn't even attempt to profit off this new set of weapons and armour, now yes there was rune weapons before. But it exploded when the platebody was released, and this was in the very early era. Edit, accidently hit send before I finished so. Could I have handled it better? Of course yes. I was very young. But I wasn't scamming people were happy with getting it way cheaper than bluerose was providing it. Should I have stopped after being warned and muted, looking back yes. Especially as I knew more popular people than me being banned for it, hell two of the people I gave finished products to to trade/sell were perma banned before I was even muted. But to this day I am still salty and upset with how much favouritism bluerose got during that era. That said runescape then was...interesting and funny. It's not the game we know now, hell it's not even what classic was when re-released. Sure it had the same bugs and exploits, but it never had the same people. It didn't have the same jmods, well at the time just moderators. It didn't even have the same atmosphere, community and how it was policed. No I don't have screenshots of that time, I was just a kid that used the game to cope with my parents having split and it being ugly, and to escape me stepping up to help look after my sisters.

With the mention of Fremenniks, I almost thought this was about the bug that made the red fremmy cloak being best-in-slot armor. That was a weird one, and took Jagex a surprisingly long time to address.
@@rabbitmario751 For a while (maybe a month or so, was in 2014), the red fremennik cloak was glitched in a pretty weird way, so that if you only wore that and nothing else, it provided a huge defensive boost (the Wiki says 47% in all combat styles). This was only the case for the red version of the cloak, but essentially meant that an item you can buy for 10 gp in a store provided more protection than most armor sets.
I'm not even gonna lie - I always thought you had to have the Construction level to even use those flatpacks. I only learned their true use today by watching this video lmao I just thought they were added as a way to slightly afk Con

While we're on topic of overlooked bugs, I was doing the Mort Myre quest during the time when the whole bug with the numbers appearing on non-stackable items happened and now I have a genuine STACK of three distinct druid pouches. Like, I can remove each separately from my bank and stack them again.
I now own a Ring of Kinship (Berserker) outside of Daemonheim due to an accidental duplication glitch that occurred for a few days about a month ago. When you exited Daemonheim, you'd be given a normal kinship ring alongside your specialty ring. Jagex patched it but didn't remove or punish owners; so I still have one.

Essentially people would die in PK worlds with 76K cash in their inventory, and, because of the way drop mechanics worked, drop more than 76K worth of items to their PKer. It wasn't *quite* so simple -- IIRC for example it was an average; Say you did it 10 times, some of those kills the game would generate
@@JerkWarlord Another thing about this was the PK potential that you would slowly generate over time while gaining exp in the wilderness or in a pvp world. The higher your PK potential, the greater chance you had to get unique pvp loot like the vesta's longsword. Some people would afk fire bolt for hours before killing their character, or high alch, to get sufficient PK potential.
@@runeboii it was called ep, earning potential. You only had to risk 76k or more in the wild for your ep to go up, didn't need gains at all.. iirc it was 26k for ftp.
For real, I'm not sure how they didn't see this coming. An item sink at GE price means the item can never fall below GE price, but artificial demand could bring up the GE price of the item. It's a disaster waiting to happen, and a complete lack of wisdom on Jagex's end rather than a bug, exploit, or glitch of any type. It functioned exactly how it was supposed to, it's just that it functioned horribly.

They could of got a small clan bought the entire supply of say maple shelves, raised to the price too 100m *as not many people buying the items* then sold them to the NPC for 100m per flat pack
Cant remember of it was the same back then but the g.e price can only change like 5 or 10% of the item value per day. Thats why often with newly released items the have to manually change the price after a couple of days to the price people trade it for.

wait! an npc can buy flatpacks? i just drop them all on the ground at my workbench and did dining room tables for 99 using protean planks. getting 200m at prawn broker since it auto removes upon building now. figured flatpacks were worthless because nobody on ge would buy mine. wish i knew about this

Sounds like jagex not taking responsibility for their oversight again as they have done for year to then screw over players who are actually profiting from having a maxed useless skill that did nothing but sink money. Honestly half the skills in this game are pointless aside from flexing how much time you dedicated to it so to have a skill actually decently profit you by maxing said skill is refreshing
that doesn't really sound like a bug/exploit. there was no game code working in an unintended way. it sounds like players using an intended mechanic that had a result jagex didn't plan for.
actually a few players myself included duped cash in the cash dupes and never got banned. the day they patched it we would make a bug report prior to bans. and act innocent. they let us keep our items and didnt ban us lol

There was a bug sometime in 2008/2009. In bandos boss room, completely empty for, no bones, after entering and being on 2nd kill. Verac brass, verac legs, verac helmet spawned on floor to the left side of arena, no grave stone, noone came to retrieve it. It was as if somebody died and there was a server delay. Made an easy 3-4m that day. oddest thing ive seen.
Anything specific you had in mind? I'm doing Invention over the summer, but that's mainly to focus on the hype and disappointing release, as well as the controversial race :)

Used to do alot of clues back before you could even hold more than one and I had bought and saved from my clues over 10k yew/magic/and willow comp bows back then they wasn't worth hardly anything so I gave them to my friend then he quits and the clue rework happens and missed opportunity to make bills over night rofl
I now just make insense. 2 willow logs 2 impeius ashes and a clean spirit weed. Cost under 10k, sells easily for 17-19k. I make a million every hour atleast.

Item sinks are a mechanic, not a bug. They're meant to be the most profitable choice - that's the motivation to use them... Seems a bit harsh to punish people for making more profit than you thought they would, just because you didn't think it through... Can you really call their actions 'exploiting'?

Construction led me to quit the game for 2 years. I have an auto-immune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. Basically the TL;DR is that my bones turn to dust, my joints fuse and turn to bone. It's super painful and I don't have good use of my hands. The amount of pain just getting to 70 caused, made the game to become physically painful and not enjoyable. Jagex had no interest in making this skill do-able for disabled people back then. Thankfully, since then, Jagex have made changes that benefit people in my position even if that was not their intention.
@@rswillmissit You're welcome, and thankfully yes. Jagex made some great changes over the years that make RS3 accessible to me. I'm proud to say that today, I have a quest cape and max cape. I still can't do bosses, I can't switch my kit because I have no speed, agility or dexterity with my hands. I think that mechanic sucks. I don't think that bosses should require multiple weapons, needed styles etc. PVM is going to be out of my reach for as long as kit switching exists. So no comp cape will be mine I don't think. But the main thing is that I can enjoy the game with what I can access.
@@Christopher_S never forget that the entire araxxor/araxxi can be done in only bronze armor + bronze dagger. no boss in the game "requires" switches. just a mindset that high end pvmers feed people. edit: i forgot about dagannoths, matriarchs, and kalphite bosses so most* bosses dont require switches
@@painnmisery2582 Really?? You don't need kit switches to PVM? You're right about that being drilled into my mind, it's all I've ever been told I'd need to do by other players I speak with in-game. I honestly was of the opinion that I'd be unable to do any of the bosses past GWD1 without being able to do this! I just wish that I knew of some video creator/streamer that played like this, so that I could get some tips. Even me switching to an Excalibur mid battle would be a no-go, so that means the wiki guides are basically impossible for me too :( Thanks for the information here though, it's good food for thought!

im not sure how this is an exploit, oversight yes, but exploit? it was an INTENTIONAL feature afterall, they just hadnt thought of this as a way to profit
I feel like you should have mentioned that those players made hundreds of millions because they bought during the week after Jagex changed the advisor when the prices were lower. Some people made even more money
The personalized shops update was, and still is the dumbest update imo. I had so much fun when I was younger treating the varock general store like a constantly updating thrift store. I understand it was a RWT thing, but it took some magic away from the game. Then the GE happened...
I kind of get an amused laugh at the fact those high scale moneybags players (ones abusing an exploit no less) basically managed to yell loud enough to get a temporary lift of the change by Jagex. Something that would probably never happen these days. Especially as they were likely wealthy enough to not be impacted to an extent where it made them not be able to afford stuff in-game, or somehow lose anything that they didn't lose due to their own greed. Same for the people trying to cash in on the exploit via hoarding magic stones. ...though the identity of the mysterious and nebulous people who continue to buy items only to sell them for that kind of loss still puzzles me to this day, as they are still around to this day. No doubt plotting some diabolical long-overdue scheme that will shake of RuneScape to it's very core, as they shall finally have their pie, and eat it too!
Though I didn't specify it in the video, it's worth mentioning a lot of the players likely profited from this quite heavily after the Jagex-fix. Having gained 750k per batch for 3 days, the money they "lost" to Ghrim's temporary material price would be small pennies of lost money to sell the remaining stones/flatpacks they had laying around. I agree that it's wild Jagex allowed it, but to a degree, this also happens today in terms of gambling and price manipulation.

There was a bug sometime in 2008/2009. In bandos boss room, completely empty for, no bones, after entering and being on 2nd kill. Verac brass, verac legs, verac helmet spawned on floor to the left side of arena, no grave stone, noone came to retrieve it. It was as if somebody died and there was a server delay. Made an easy 3-4m that day. oddest thing ive seen.

Used to do alot of clues back before you could even hold more than one and I had bought and saved from my clues over 10k yew/magic/and willow comp bows back then they wasn't worth hardly anything so I gave them to my friend then he quits and the clue rework happens and missed opportunity to make bills over night rofl
I now just make insense. 2 willow logs 2 impeius ashes and a clean spirit weed. Cost under 10k, sells easily for 17-19k. I make a million every hour atleast.

Item sinks are a mechanic, not a bug. They're meant to be the most profitable choice - that's the motivation to use them... Seems a bit harsh to punish people for making more profit than you thought they would, just because you didn't think it through... Can you really call their actions 'exploiting'?

Construction is one of my favorite skills
Construction led me to quit the game for 2 years. I have an auto-immune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. Basically the TL;DR is that my bones turn to dust, my joints fuse and turn to bone. It's super painful and I don't have good use of my hands.
The amount of pain just getting to 70 caused, made the game to become physically painful and not enjoyable. Jagex had no interest in making this skill do-able for disabled people back then. Thankfully, since then, Jagex have made changes that benefit people in my position even if that was not their intention.

@@rswillmissit You're welcome, and thankfully yes. Jagex made some great changes over the years that make RS3 accessible to me. I'm proud to say that today, I have a quest cape and max cape.
I still can't do bosses, I can't switch my kit because I have no speed, agility or dexterity with my hands. I think that mechanic sucks. I don't think that bosses should require multiple weapons, needed styles etc.
PVM is going to be out of my reach for as long as kit switching exists. So no comp cape will be mine I don't think.
But the main thing is that I can enjoy the game with what I can access.
@@Christopher_S never forget that the entire araxxor/araxxi can be done in only bronze armor + bronze dagger. no boss in the game "requires" switches. just a mindset that high end pvmers feed people. edit: i forgot about dagannoths, matriarchs, and kalphite bosses so most* bosses dont require switches

I honestly was of the opinion that I'd be unable to do any of the bosses past GWD1 without being able to do this!
I just wish that I knew of some video creator/streamer that played like this, so that I could get some tips. Even me switching to an Excalibur mid battle would be a no-go, so that means the wiki guides are basically impossible for me too :(

I kind of get an amused laugh at the fact those high scale moneybags players (ones abusing an exploit no less) basically managed to yell loud enough to get a temporary lift of the change by Jagex. Something that would probably never happen these days. Especially as they were likely wealthy enough to not be impacted to an extent where it made them not be able to afford stuff in-game, or somehow lose anything that they didn't lose due to their own greed. Same for the people trying to cash in on the exploit via hoarding magic stones. ...though the identity of the mysterious and nebulous people who continue to buy items only to sell them for that kind of loss still puzzles me to this day, as they are still around to this day. No doubt plotting some diabolical long-overdue scheme that will shake of RuneScape to it's very core, as they shall finally have their pie, and eat it too!
Though I didn't specify it in the video, it's worth mentioning a lot of the players likely profited from this quite heavily after the Jagex-fix. Having gained 750k per batch for 3 days, the money they "lost" to Ghrim's temporary material price would be small pennies of lost money to sell the remaining stones/flatpacks they had laying around. I agree that it's wild Jagex allowed it, but to a degree, this also happens today in terms of gambling and price manipulation.
