I love watching all of these converted bus episodes - I lived in a converted bus for a majority of my child/teenage years (before it had caught on like it has nowadays). So I like to see the different ways each family has converted their bus. My family went from just having one child in the bus to having 5 children living there (that's a total of 7 people in the bus - not including pets), just in my own time in a bus I have seen multiple renovations of our bus from single beds to bunk beds, to sliding convertible beds. I think there is a big misconception with people who haven't lived in a bus for a very long time that once you build the bus that you can't change the floor plan, but let me tell you with each curve life throws your way your home is going to change. Its like re-arranging your furniture - just a little more difficult. Thanks for bringing another version of one of these wonderful bus-houses on your channel.

I know this family personally and have for many years. I cannot say enough amazing things about them. The people on here that are criticizing them and saying they are selfish and didn't think of their son, you could not be more off!!! They are the most caring , loving and selfless people I know. They considered Bryce in every aspect of this. They are giving him experiences that he could NEVER get in a classroom. They are not going to be living on this bus forever, they are taking a year or so out of their lives to bring their family closer and experience this adventure together. Bryce is in heaven and loving every second of it. He will have plenty of years with his own bedroom. I look up to this family for their courage and will to follow your dreams!! I love you all tons and Bryce is so much better off with the experiences your giving him versus bad television, social media ,TH-cam etc. I can't wait to see what's next for you guys!! I couldn't be more proud to call you my friend! ❤ Love you!

Gina Colditz Don’t try and try to get into a battle of witts with the unarmed... The folks making these ignorant assumptions have had years of brainwashing on the topic of the family, nor do they know the definition and you are not going to fix that overnight. Would I do things exactly as thses parents have? Probably not but it is not my family.

I would love to live like this as a child, living in a big house isn't that great.
Traveling from a young age is a game changer and far more educational than school's.
He will no doubt have more access to his parents, an active lifestyle and the opportunity to gain serious skills and confidence.
As long as he has the chance to be social and access to educational resources he's all set. However it all depends on Bryce and his family dynamic everyone's different.

When we only had on bedroom, we gave it to our son and slept in the living room. Not cause we are great parents but just cause that's much more convenient. He was sleeping earlier than us so if we wanted to watch a movie or just make a cup of tea, it was the only way to go. I feel like they'll change it after a few months in the bus.

I know of people who live in RV's and travel, home-school, etc. I don't think that the "couch" is any different than a rv conversion bed. And I'm willing to bet that this family will evolve and morph into new ideas(homes) as he grows. I have 3 boys and their "private time" didn't take up much. Most of it was "napping" and video gaming. Other than that, they were all up in my space, lol. Which, in the end, there are people who barely spend time with their children in a standard brick and mortar. This child is getting all of his mother and father. Isn't that awesome! Survival class, whuttttt!!!! Hell yeah.

This bus is super pretty, but functionally it seems like kind of a hot mess. It's like they didn't really take into account their needs as a family? Idk some of the ways they used the space feels really wasteful (e.g., a ton of counter space even though they don't really cook, a pullout bed/bench conversion for the kid instead of a bunk bed or something equally as private and space-efficient, etc.).

  • @Tsiri09
    @Tsiri09 6 ปีที่แล้ว +177

School buses can be utilized any number of ways- a home is a great way to go. Schools are mandated to get rid of buses that reach a certain age or mileage (I think it's 10 years/100,000 miles). The cost can be way under $10K and they have a LOT of life left in them. They've been maintained the whole time, and are built like tanks. FAR better than spending money on a new RV.

Holy Cow people of criticism...slow down on slamming the parents. No friends for starters?...wrong...there are sooo many great people on the road and yes, they make friends and keep in touch and get together again and again...I don't think they pulled him out of school to be photographers...they already were photographers. I think they pulled him out of school to live an experience WITH THE PARENTS and see and do things that he may never have done otherwise. Its great to pass judgement on ones choices when they are not exactly what you THINK they should be. Always wonderful to know that there are critics that know better what lifestyle fits mine or other families. With the quality of public education (and yes I can speak of that as that is where I am employed) I wouldn't think twice about home schooling on the road...what an adventure. They may decide in a year that it doesn't work for them, BUT that year on the road will be something that young fella will remember and cherish for many years to come. They are new to the lifestyle and seeing if it fits...and yes, call it selfish if you like, but the fact that many parents make decisions every day to suit their own needs and take the kids along for the journey...whether it be moving to another country for employment...or private schools... or whatever ... the kids don't really have any more input than this one...this one is just lucky enough to be able to have 50 states as his backyard! Good luck to the family and may your travels be safe and full of wonder!

Even though I was homeschooled in a "conventional" home, I had been to 49 states by the time I was 8. My Mom saw travel and seeing the world as integral to our education. Most of the time when we were on the road all of us would share one hotel room, and no we never minded. Now I'm in college with a 3.8 GPA. I don't think my different education hindered me at all, and none of us ever complained about the "lack of privacy."

I think Bryce will have amazing experiences that will serve the rest of his life. This is by far my #1 favorite skoolie, which is a "topic" I am very interested in and have been following for 4+ years. First, the age of the bus makes it beautiful! I'm sure you realize that it looks like an old woodie wagon "Surfin' USA!" That is just so esthetically pleasing! Then inside..... Real Furniture that has lived a life before it was here! There is no rule that everything that comes into the camper has to be a transformer 3× over! Now, I know that there are people out there (somewhere I don't know) who really love cooking and must have a "real" kitchen. But it seems like every conversion of every single whatever vehicle MUST have a full kitchen, which takes up one whole side of the living space. I think many people have bought into the idea that, "Now we're simplifying and traveling...this is the time to do 200% more food preparation than we've ever done in our whole lives!"
My history is that both of my parents were college professors who had the whole summer off. My dad would teach courses in that very short but intense mini semester/term. That was our vacation money. We bought an old, very small Sunbeam and used that for limited excursions that first summer...I was probably 8 or 9. Sold that and bough a new Shasta. We traveled for 7-9 weeks straight every summer! We had a Ford Maverick and my dad used the Shasta to drive to work every day for that 7 or 8 years!
So now I'm a dreamer. Serious health issues have sidelined me for years now. But, just, ?....maybe one day....

I wish there'd been more info about how the family actually lives in this bus. It seemed that they don't have a shower or any cooking tools (stove/oven). That info was either glossed over or intentionally avoided. I find that there are a lot of tiny house videos that try to make a temporary/camping style domicile seem like a fully equipped, self-sufficient home in order to impress and attract more viewers.. It feels dishonest. It's okay if this is more of a souped up camper van, you should just point those details out in the video instead of glossing over those them. I think people who are interested in these types of homes want to know what the different ways of 'tiny living' are.

What a bold move to just compromise your child’s privacy for a cozy homey feel and a huge countertop nobody uses for cooking. I‘m often impressed with how selfish people can be. The child did not only need to adjust to ‚van-life‘, but to zero privacy life. It’s your life choice, not your child’s. You should sacrifice, not him.

I loved this episode, is a fresh change from the everyday life controlled by big corporations and such, this bus is huge too, many people are criticizing stuff without even knowing the kid, saying he's miserable as if they were him themselves lol. But here's the thing, every individual is different, even if you think something is unbelievably unacceptable, for others it could be perfectly fine, if the kid is the curious kind, rather than a boring life with academics alone and "playmates" (not including that he could get bullied too), he would enjoy more exploring and being creative wherever he is, many kids even prefer sleeping in couches or even the floor with a blanket, it's just different lifestyles and mindsets. If he learns about nature and self-sufficiency this early, and how to appreciate everything you have in life, he will be a way better person in the future, and happier, wether he keeps living in freedom or within the city, whatever it is, you have no right to judge someones life and lifestyle, specially if you'll not be responsible for it.
Aside from that, I wonder though, how beautiful it would be to travel in such bus and park in an open field and look at the stars at night 😍.

Although I can understand why her husband was fearful, when it comes to having or should I say being with someone that cares for you and has vision, often times what they see comes with care and discipline............which usually will have anything work out, being that a solid foundation exists! I also love the fact that she has a husband that is not stressed or pressed about her looking a certain way (ie: like a "woman"......major side eye) as wtf does that even mean?!?......... in order for her to be been seen as a woman........his wife! That is when you know that a couple has more to them than the standard run of the mill you play your position and I will play mine. Meanwhile they're both unhappy and or resort to counseling or whatever most folk that lack real care in their union resort to.

I lived in an ex tour/school bus for 9 years and one of the reasons I gave up on it, was that it was often really cold or really hot, obviously depending on the weather. And I had an awesome wood burner, while they don't seem to have any form of heating. All those single glazed windows will make all the warmth fly out really quickly and cold come in. And if the floor and roof aren't insulated it will be even worse. Can you shine a light on this Bryce?

I cannot believe some of these comments about Bryce's supposed happiness (or lack thereof). From 10:35 to the end of the video, both parents AND this boy talk about how much he's learning, enjoying the experience, and taking advantage of this little family experiment, however long it lasts. Cripes - every kid oughta be this "miserable". As for the "horrible, wasteful" use of space - not a single one of you can list how you'd do it better. That rear sectioned garage is genius for keeping outdoorsy stuff away from the interior, and the sideways bed (which we'd done in our Airstream renovation as well) makes the maximum use of its footprint. The center bath / closet unit is fantastic for dividing the living spaces in a sensible, organized way.
This is an amazing experience for this family; it may not take years for this chapter of their life to run its course... but the memories for all three will last a lifetime. Hope to run into them down the road, sometime, and I'm so thankful they opened their home to us for a few minutes.

I find that the things I think are stigmas, coming from other people are because, they are some of my own prejudices that I may have or have had at one time. Now I can voice my own true feelings about things without being argumentative and be ok with it. I just sold my house and am seriously down sizing. I'm moving to an older, small, single wide, mobile home for now. I'll probably get a van conversion and start the road journey soon. I think my son is going to faint. It's ok. I don't do anything to throw it in anyone's face. I'm careful and thoughtful. He's very traditional and I support him and his ways, for him. I am likely to be agreeable when he shows disdain by chuckling and saying something like, "I know, weird, huh?" Who would have thunk it but, I love it." To him right is right and wrong is, well... just disgusting. Life is measured by education and things. I love his beautifully manicured yard and big, beautiful house. It'd be fun to live that way, I say, but it's fun to live this way too. You become the guy with the van/skoolie, and she will arrive.

Living Big In A Tiny House , that sounds great. However, there are certain social skills you learn when you are in a neighborhood, and go to regular school, and live in a community. Yes he is getting hands on experiences, and he is learning how to adapt to the environment his parents show him. However, the skill of dealing with his peers, or how to get pass that socially awkward stages is that you only get being in a community environment... Just my observation, but he is missing out on that. Just something to think about.. as his parents fit him into their world..

Wendy Barnard I grew up moving around a lot as a child, and I still turned out okay... Aside from wishing I were still traveling now, and a calling to see more of the world...

Wendy Barnard The awkward stages are a side effect of lack of life experience when trying to connect with older peers. If the child is confident and well spoken with adults at the age of 9, there's no reason to think that he will suddenly lose this and go through a stage of awkwardness. I know for I fact I wasn't well spoken with adults at the age of 9.
I only broke out of my shyness when I got out into the world and met all kinds of different people. This child is very fortunate to get this experience at a young age, it is very valuable and most people don't get it until they're older. I see no harm in this lifestyle.
Many homeschooled kids I've met are very well spoken and confident actually now that I think about it. I think the school system is what indoctrinates us to hold our tongue.

Yeah, they didn't add a shower in this home. They do find showers on the road as they travel and also have the ability to use portable showers when they are camping.

If you check out the channel CheapRVliving, you will find a lot of ways to wash yourself off while traveling without a shower. It's possible.

Sandra Nelson Yes, someone once taught me about "ho baths". I was like, what? So, they explained how hookers go into public restrooms and wash up in the sink and be done. I laughed at the notion, but never forgot the term when I do sink baths even though I live in a high-rise apartment. Yes, many ways to bathe!

I think you did the right thing. Everyone waits until they are close to death before they decide to try to enjoy life. Do it now. Got myself a Prevost this week to convert. I will still keep my job for now. I am a bit risk averse but I dont have 40 years left to waste.

“Bryce; tell the nice Australian man how much you love living on the bus, and sleeping on the couch that’s predominantly a storage spot! Don’t forget to mention your home schooling and your classes on underwater basket weaving and mountaineering” (honestly...WAT?!??! )

And on top of it all, it’s their traveling office which makes it even less appealing and inviting as a home for this poor kid. Sad that the parents judgement is clouded by this “experience” that is definitely not going to end positively.
What the mom said: “He was a little hesitant at first”
What the mom meant: he was completely bummed that he had to leave his friends behind at a pivotal point in his development and schooling
