this got me a credit in paris recently. booked a trip to disney paris, didnt realise till it was booked and paid for that hyperspace mountain had planned maintenece due the start the day we got there. it got delayed, was super happy haha
Can't lie the "just get it to labor day" which turned into "just get it to New Year's" mentality where I worked was part of the reason I didn't go back after getting laid off. Of course the place I work now does the same thing only worse and I'm looking at ride mechanic jobs again.
I was wondering this at CP yesterday- there is so much I can notice about rides, audio/lighting equipment, railings, wiring, when comparing beginning of season to the past few weeks. Not like the place is falling apart but you can see the checklist growing. Personally I'd love to see them fix the lights on the side of the trains for gatekeeper before halloweekends since only a few work, although I know that wont happen since the trains go to a satellite location for offseason maintenance.
Yea. First thing on the cutting block of maintenance is things that aren’t necessary for the ride to operate. Cut them once or twice then they get removed all together.
@@ryantheridemechanic somehow you just triggered an old memory for me- this is essentially why cedar fair ride themes aren't very elaborate. I once told back in 2008 by an operations manager that it's just more stuff to go wrong and they typically remove rather than repair problematic theme elements
@@TrueLies23 yea I look at a new ride and the park says we are getting cool things items 1-7. And I’m like let’s see what makes it through finance. Then they always cut those items. Same thing. They will just break and we don’t want to pay to fix it. I understand. It’s a lot of money for something that does nothing for the ride. But some are very cool. I love a good lighting package. Makes the ride look amazing at night.
@@ryantheridemechanic agree 100% on lighting, it's such an incredible way to enhance the experience at night. Is there an ideal amount of theming that hits a sweet spot of enhancing the experience without butting up against the law of diminishing returns or angering maintenance and operations? And I'd love to talk about paint with you. So incredible to watch it dry 😂 kidding. But honestly, up here near the shores of Lake Erie where crazy winter storms are just part of life, I've often wondered how is the paint so durable? How often do rides need painted? How much does that cost? Is that the biggest can (no pun intended) that gets kicked down the road? How much tougher is a color change over a refresh? Are there ever components that get touched up throughout the year? Do trains get repainted by the park or the manufacturer? How much paint does it take to repaint either one of the twisted sisters? Power tower at CP is so faded but it looks difficult to repaint, are there any rides that just never make sense to repaint? Does new paint on track affect the first cycle, like running slower?
@@TrueLies23 lot to cover here. Yea I can work up some info on paint. Some bullet points Most parks don’t see paint as a worthy investment unless the old stuff is failing. Paint used is an AB style epoxy paint Maybe I can work up an interview with a Pinter to get the other info. I’ve never heard of a price. I know big rides take at least a month to do. Yes paint on the rail will affect the speed of the coaster for sure. Slows it waaaaaay down.
I’m glad the humor comes through! Thank you. The Parked I worked at we dismantled both trim brakes because the train never went fast enough. It’s a park thing. Most opt to run speed wheels all over and try and prevent valeting the train in the morning. So this trains need to be slowed down.
I'm way too invested in watching the Top Thrill 2 project take shape this off season which would not be possible without Lake Erie Lifestyles and their drone
@@dindog22 nope it comes down to public safety. All amusement parks are no fly zones. It’s a city / insurance things. No bending those rules. Now. On a closed day if the park allows it. They can but it has to be organized.
I always wondered. At the park you worked at that had an Intamin Impulse, was there ever an attempt to restore the holding break. I have always heard different stories for why these breaks are usually disabled
If you don't mind answering, what are your thoughts on RMC? I've heard some positive and negative things about them in terms of maintenance, so I'd love to know your thoughts regarding them as a ride mechanic.
They are just ok in my book. Not very friendly to work on but not crazy hard either. So they kind of fall right in the middle of the scale for me. Now if the wheels were easier to change they would be higher. Complex suspension system as well, but you need that with wood style rides even though they are steel.
And with how fast the hybrids eat through their wheels, you'd hope they were a bit easier. Steel Vengeance is constantly taking a train off because of a wheel.
Maaaan, you're a scammer! Back when you had like 150 subs or so and I and a few of my friends subscribed, you charged an arm and a leg and now you're throwing them out for free? Is that how you say thanks to your long time subscribers? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jokes aside, that intro part really made me laugh! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much. I love to do some comedy. I try whenever I can. Sometimes the idea is good and right timing. I feel when I make video I haven’t relaxed enough yet to let that comedy through unless I plan it.

Very common in the industry. “We worked without it for this long…..”

It puts too much stress on the train and caused cracking. So rather than replace the entire train every 5 years, they just turned it off.
Here for the free sub, what a great deal!!!1one
