I heard this once. We listen not to hear, but to respond. That has stuck with me and helped me keep my opinions to myself. Have a great day everyone.

I came across the same/similar quote. Another part of the one I heard was 'Listen to ignite (the thinking of the other person) rather than to respond'. Has stayed with me ever since.

Whether a person has been heard is determined by the speaker, not the listener. Effing brilliant.
I rarely feel heard by others. And I'm allowed to feel that way. Thank you for validating my right to feel not heard by others.

And it's amazing how common it is that people believe they have the authority to determine whether they have been heard by other people.

Yeah, all the children who are being abused at home and don't get taken seriously when they bumblingly try to tell someone, just need to learn effective communication.

I ask my class kids, "what did I say?" and most times they did not hear. We must feel in listening. It's the first step to greater - at empathy, compassion, caring and understanding the other person. 🙏 Simon Sinek ❤️ ❤️ 🙏.

This is the second video I'm hearing Simon talk about the art of active listening. Prior one he said something to the effect that parrotting back" the words of the speaker doesn't prove you were listening. I have since become more intentional when listening to any one. Thanks again Simon!

Talking less and listening more can help you better understand others and build stronger connections. By listening actively and without interruption, you can gain valuable insights into other people's perspectives and show that you value their input. Remember to stay engaged, ask open-ended questions, and seek to understand before being understood. By talking less and listening more, you can build deeper relationships and create a more positive impact on those around you.

When I was in high school I ever talked to a person about my problems it was that person request. The person was about older 10 years than me, so I was thinking that I had to talk someone to make better choices what in my mind or at least it would release my burden as many people said. At the end, finally I stood myself alone feeling uncomfortable for what I'd talked about but I knew I already had best choices. The way that person was listening to me affected my comfort that time and I didn't feel being listened too. Then I realized not everyone really wanted to listen rather just wanted to know. Fortunatelly, I came up with the idea "let's talk about solution instead of just the problem." And then once I should listen to someone I always offers "do you want solution or just want to feel being heard?." And yeah most people want just to be heard because when I give solution most people give defence about their problem.

Listening is also the willingness to be open to the other person's position. You identified her fear, then sought to convince her otherwise or "fix" the situation. You could have met the emotional requirement of a friend by validating her fear of the unknown as common and fundamental and then stopped, instead you sold her on your solution to your problem, "why isn't everyone vaccinated?". I love your books and talks, thank you.

I’ve been learning about this for a while now. “Active listening”. Now I think back about me from a few years ago, I had a hard time from feeling not being heard and understood . As a result, I blamed other and chose not to listen/make them feel heard as well. People are very vulnerable and self-centered (at least I was). Well, now I’m learning from my mistakes and doing the things right. it’s all that matter now 🤗

One thing that needs to be pointed out is - making the other person feel heard is half the job. The final step is just as important - let them hear your point and then decide for themselves, respecting the other's decision and right to have different views.

What happens if both parties come into the conversation with a strong desire to listen and as a result neither of them says much for the other person to listen to? You say” 1:09 tell me what you’re going through? What’s your story?” And the other person thinks, no, I want to be a good listener and says “ no, tell me what YOU’re going through? @@jeremysmith9694 Yea you did, in your reply to me.
If you were to clearly speak your mind, it would go something like
"I think today's society is woke, and I think that being woke includes not acknowledging gender differences.
I believe that Simon Sinek identifies as being woke.
In this video, he seems to be acknowledging gender differences even though I believe he is woke, and that is something that I think woke people do not do.
Therefore I demand for Simon to acknowledge and confess his hypocrisy!"
Obviously not that robotically, but still. That's how you convey your thoughts and feelings clearly without beating around the bush and pretending that you're one of the ones that doesn't acknowledge gender differences.
