I enjoy your adventures!! Your children are terrific, the one scene where their playing cards tell you they can get along with each other. It doesn’t mean they don’t growl at each other periodically but they can bond and be with each other!! Good job as parents!!

Renee, I just wanted to pop in here and say thank you for the incredibly hard work you do to bring your family's story to all of us. I'm not interested in sailing. I doubt we'd find much politically we share. I prefer cold/cool weather to hot/warm. (I was born and grew up on the east range of the Rockies in Montana, so I'm sure you know where that comes from). I have little in common with your daily lives (other than I've traveled around the world, but by bicycle and lived in foreign countries for over 10 years), but I LOVE the stories you tell of your family. I suspect the hours you spend hunched over your laptop can get tough. I just wanted to add another voice to the many out there that look forward to Thursdays and that little announcement that Team Zatara has a new video. Thank you!

    • @SailingZatara
      @SailingZatara  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Wow Rod you have also certainly lived some adventures! Thank you for your kind words; yes literally hunched. For hours and hours. But I love it! I have always loved puzzles and organizing, so editing videos is actually fun for me.
And creating a video diary for my kids’ kids makes all the hunching worth it!
      Cheers Rod!

Putting the date up on the video is a great idea. I've often wished that vloggers would do that. Knowing that the vids are coming out weeks, and with some people, months behind. It gets real confusing to what happened when. So big ups to you there Rene. Hope Keith's Mum did ok.

Whoop whoop! It’s thirsty Thursday with our favorite sailors. These Day in the Life videos are great. The water looks so inviting. Trouble shooting can be a difficult task. Doubley so when you have limited bandwidth. Keep pushing out these wonderful videos. Stay safe out there.

Regarding the head gasket replacement and your comment about the head being warped, if it got hot it may be warped and also the block may be warped too. If so you will need to have the head and block resurfaced before replacing the head gasket or water will just leak into the cylinder again. Also if it got hot maybe your waterpump may be bad or some cooling system issue. A blown head gasket could have caused it to overheat too. Be sure to ask about "O ringing" the block/head to help prevent future issues. Thanks for all the Great videos!

So fun seeing “A Day in Your Family Life”. Those kids, their energy levels, their perspectives, how they entertain themselves... is so great....but almost wear me out just watching. Glad I had my kids when young. Ha, ha. Who knows what they will become but they are all being ingrained to be leaders. Outstanding parenting. That nacho lunch looked delicious. Interesting perspective regarding Weather Windows. Kinda important not to beat the hell out of your home sailing in rough weather. Thank you all for sharing. Prayers for Keith’s Mom.

You can't make a head gasket. They have interference metal that conforms to the slight inconsistencies in the block and the head. Too much pressure for a fiber gasket to withstand. If you sweat the onions in butter before you bring in the meat it incorporates the subtle onion flavor into the meat or generally any dish.

  • @randalljames1

You need some help on that head... (40+ years here)... you can not make a gasket for that thing.. it is a steel core gasket with graphite... The water in the cylinder away from you got in when you took it apart.. however.. the cylinder nearest you "may" have been leaking (lack of carbon on head).. Water in oil could come from a gasket or a heat exchanger leak (oil cooler).. Get me some info on the motor and I will find out :) BTW.. you guys rock..

    Keith
Stu here, friends of Wiz from La Linea. Am the Engine Expert for PBO, your genny, that water usually comes from a blocked exhaust elbow, quite common on small diesels, they dont run hard enough and it blocks up, then the raw water backs up in to the back cylinder. If the head gasket is leaking it is quite obvious, dont over think warped heads etc, a red herring.

carefully remove head gasket, use silver spay paint (due to the metalics in the paint)
and give it 5-7 coats and it will work for you till you can get a new head gasket, if that head is a Yamar, the 3 cly heads have a problem of cracking. Good luck and safe travels.

A penguin has some engine trouble out in the desert and brings his car to the shop. Mechanic tells the penguin to give him a few minutes to check out the problem so the Penguin goes across the street to the ice cream shop and gets a vanilla cone. Arriving back at the shop with vanilla ice cream on his bill the mechanic says "it looks like you blew a seal." To which the penguin replies " lets keep my personal life out of it."

I watched all of your previous videos in order and it’s better than any movie, tv show, or video game on the computer. Thanks for the counter balance of the horrific politics in the news today. Thursday again! Thank you for the "reality show." In my opinion your letting us into the actual life of your family cruising is tops. Providing these experiences for the children is probably the best any parents could do. Praying for a successful recovery for Keith's mom. I am sure Keith already knows this but just removing the cylinder head means requiring a new gasket. My question I have wondered since the new boat, why two gensets and one of them a small one? I can't wait for next Thursday. I have, in my mind, adopted you all as my seafaring kids and grandkids.

Starlink is gonna change things so much. I'd imagine more people are going to be doing things like this as a result.

Love the channel! Great to see the kids getting involved in filming ideas. It would be cool to see them film a week from their perspective. Maybe a little competition between the guys and girls to see who can produce the best video. End of season, one with the most views win. Instead of winning an Oscar trophy for best video, it would definitely be an Oyster Trophy!

Starlink dishes need to be still but I wonder if you can put it on a gimbal system that can hold it steady enough for it to work on a boat.
