I worked on a crew boat in Gulf of Mexico. Nothing is like breathing salty sea air, the ocean breeze and the rolling of the waves that rock you to sleep.
They all have tons of friends and have become amazing at making new friends when they are in ports or traveling with buddy boats. Some of their from home friends have joined them on their boat as well. They keep in contact with friends and meet more along the way.
Why wouldn't they? My dad was the most sociable/likeable person in our community (homeschooled). Two of my cousins (homeschooled) grew up in religious isolation, one is a selftaught highly paid programmer (no degrees or papers from University), travels the world and got a family. The other one is an extremley creative adventurer. These had wholesome families where integrity been passed on to them. What I have gotten out of it is that they surley get more quality and less distraction from freinds. And after working with students between 6-16 years old for 6 years I can clearly tell that ADHD would be less problematic if families chose to homeschool rather than sending them to a chaotic class with atleast 6 other kids with the same issue but a variation of diffrent backgrounds and family settings that further complicates the issue. Loving parents is the ONLY thing necessary for successful kids.
Evan Isabell Vids if you’re not on passage you normally try and hide in a marina however if you are at sea, you take down all your sails and put up something called a storm sail. They’re bright orange, very thick and super tiny and give you just enough forward momentum to stay out the waves without going fast. It’s scary but you train for it
I miss living on a boat with my family , I lived on a boat from the ages of 7-12 we sailed from England to New Zealand, it was definitely the best part of my life so far
I'm 45, my kids are 6, 7, 10 and 12. I'm a single dad. Thinking of buying a cat and doing.the same. Glad to hear you liked it mate. Anything I could do, that you wished you had during your time on the boat that might make my children's experience better?
ppl think different things, I hung out with friends 24/7 and lost sight in life and family and everything. I took a break from it and found that they truly can be a distraction. All opinions.
the bad side of families this close are they become dependent due to lack of outside life experience. Friends can help expand your connections and possibilities.
In response - it’s rare. Me and my family have sailed for a few weeks together. Basically we put pegs on the clothes but we took them in each night as the dew would set and would make the clothes damp again. Also if the winds are extremely high we will take them in to be safe
People who keep saying "they need friends" "how can they socialize" "if i was with my family all this time id kill them" etc etc. I hope someday you'll realize and learn that family is everything, its good to have friends, its good to socialize, and im sure they do, but when friends go and when the problems come, only family stays. This makes them learn how to create peaceful and patient ways to communicate even when things are stressful between members of family. I respect this, honestly, it'll teach them a lot of things.
It's because there's a lot of aspects to life that they are cut off from. I'm not saying that's bad necessarily. There are trade offs. And there's a lot of stuff they don't participate in. Also, homeschooling generally doesn't make for kids who are super competitive academically. Unless your parents can teach your AP physics and such, which is rare.

@@teffy539 The Satellite Internet that they use when sailing, is very slow due to the Network (The only Global Internet Service in the world). They can still download wind charts for PredictWind (about 5mb each....very slow). Not enough for normal Internet stuff like downloading or streaming movies, gaming, getting new music, etc. But enough for text only emails. Then there is Fast Wifi at most ports, in a Cafe or Shopping Center.
Great video! I’m so happy that you film these videos with so much detail, otherwise we would never get to experience this! Renee, you are doing such a FABULOUS job on these videos! I know that filming, editing and coming up with an interesting “storyline” is hard work and I wanted you to know that your effort is both acknowledged and appreciated! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💗💯
...all hats off to you guys... sailing across any ocean is the ultimate vulnerability... whether eventful or not, it is the most underrated challenge... an amazing adventure and a building experience like no other... kudos...
I think its hilarious that your kids are learning what is like to be parents at a very young age... 3 hour shifts... "... you getting up... It's your shift.. im goin to bed... " LOL thanks for the glimpse!..
I wouldn’t say they are learning what it’s like to be parents but to be raised appropriately to your situation and leading what’s “normal”. I’d say everybody has a different normal you know
@@gcsnva5097 As a father of three, two of whom had colic, and forced my wife of twenty years and I to get up in three hour shifts, I made a comment in the spirit of humor about how they do things on Zatara, and the dialog that is had between the one coming off the shift, and the one coming on. People who have never had to go through that style of sleep wouldn't understand its effects, or why this was simply a humorous, light comment, made in the spirit of the video itself.
Wow! Great video! Thanks for sharing!! You have a gorgeous boat and family!! What an amazing experience especially for the kids!! To get to see the sun rise and set from that deck, so awesome!!
As a screwball I watch all your videos out of order, it makes it feel more of watching home videos vs a series and this is one of my favourite episodes as we get to see the more normal side of family dysfunction and how wonderful these little quirks are. I love that your kids get to listen to ALL music genres and ALL styles, kudos to you two for knowing what parenting and teaching what life is about to your kids
Hey guys! There have been plenty of replies on this very comment; check it out on Instagram and Facebook. Kudos for you putting it out there for us to ponder and give our two cents worth! Cheers! Stay the course! Renee
@@puravida7948 I agree 100%. This Family is actually living life. I don't want to say I'd trade my past, but this is so much cooler than just partying and chasing girls all through high school. These kids are on the adventure of a lifetime!!
another fun video....pretty cool watching young son taking on more responsibility...I see him jumping ship in some cool place and taking on a charter boat captaincy in his near future! Thanks, Andrew
I really enjoy your channel. My wife and I are starting on the home school adventure, and I'm itching to go sailing. Thank you for doing this. Happy and safe travels.
I just started subscribing a few days ago and I've loved watching a number of your episodes. I follow a number of off-grid folks, skoolies and world travelers but your family is the first sailing fam I've watched. You are all awesome. I particularly like that you include the entire family. May peace and joy fill your sails!
Found your channel last week and have been binge watching all your episodes! Am now caught up and love your channel! Continued safe travels to you all!
Hey guys, I know you've spoken a number of times about "Buddy Boating" and saw how you made the wise decision to close the gap with Wiz during the potential "Pirate" incident. I've been checking your location and progress almost daily on the PredictWind site just for fun and noted your several dramatic/unusual course changes mid crossing. We theorized a number of possibilities as to why you were traveling almost due East instead of West - several of my personal favorites as follows: 1). Mutiny on the Zatara 2). Keith ran out of Dr. Pepper 3). the Pink Flamingo that I previously strongly recommended you mount as a figurehead to intimidate any would be Pirates had come loose and had been blown overboard - and these strange course changes were actually a Pink Flamingo rescue/recovery mission 4). Keith fell asleep while on watch, eventually dropping his foot on the windlass "Down" button - inadvertently deploying 250' of anchor rode after which the anchor was swallowed by Moby Dick and you were being dragged around the ocean blue completely against your will. 5). You guys were so bored that the whole crew had a Rock, Paper, Scissors competition which Renee won and as the winner she decided it would be super cool to sail a big "Z" for Zatara in the middle of the Pacific Ocean just because she could. I assume now that the reason for the inexplicable and puzzling "Z" in your course was none of our many interesting theories but instead an effort to close the gap with Wiz. Although there isn't a map legend it seemed like you had to travel quite a distance the wrong way before resuming your proper course - which leads me to my actual question: While Buddy Boating, how close do you generally stay to each other during a passage such as this? I'm guessing there are speed differences between your two boats - so do you slow down/speed up to stay within a certain proximity of each other at all times? Also curious, what is the maximum VHF range between you two? Is radio range the limiting distance factor or otherwise how do you determine how close to stay to each other? Having asked my real question I now present Captain Keith of the Zatara a true seamanship challenge for all the world to see: I challenge you to sail the name "Zatara" in large enough letters in CURSIVE that we can see them on your Predictwind Course. That would be pretty daggone cool to see and would serve as irrefutable proof of seamanship. I'm even willing to not make crossing the "T" in Zatara mandatory. That would be purely optional but would be worth quite a few extra bad a$$ captain points. You seem like an awfully competitive guy Keith - are you really just gonna be able to let that challenge go unanswered to the world? Oh my goodness, I've just called you out........ :)> P.S. - We'll still love you guys even if you're just not that good... I'll be watching. :)
Great oceanic family. A little scary concerning the lack of a proper Eyes on deck at night watches. Watching movies, hanging out down below, reading , falling asleep etc, all while moving well above 2 and 3 kts. Big Sky Theory ding that bell? Fantastic what you guys are doing all togeather. Long-term blue water / aviation person here.
I don't know how my youtube search came across your channel, but I am hooked! It reminds me of the days at the lake with my father and my family... it was an adventure.... and as a family we had fun, laughs, cries, cheers and then more fun. It was some amazing times I miss. I look forward to more videos... you guys are an amazing family. Keep sailing on and swim with those sharks... thank you for making my day better. (Arlington, TX here btw)

This is like the perfect family to me, except the fact that you can’t see friends very often. My dream is to travel around the world and what better way to travel then by boat. You seem like very good parents! Keep up the good work ❤️
I feel like going to school is a healthy part of social development for all kids. I wish nothing but the best for these kids and hope they can find a way to work around that
what a wonderful life you are living!! How long time do you usually stay in harbours? Do you take time to explore the cities and towns that you sail by? Good luck on your jurney! bye from Finland.
Finn is a reasonable dude haha. -- "...you guys need to work together...". Just found your channel! Good stuff guys, especially for being independently produced. Godspeed! Don't listen to most of these comments. I forgot this was TH-cam and it's all toxic.
What an amazing adventure. We are watching from the beginning on TH-cam. I just skipped ahead to see if you were "Still at it" I love that you are!! I could so see this being a lifestyle change of ours in the next few years.
It’s a good idea for the person about to go on watch to also set an alarm to wake up, rather than relying on the person on watch to wake them up…if the on watch person falls overboard no one will know until morning.
When i started watching i thought the dad might be a little bit on the strict, quiet side but once he started talking all i could think was aww... He's a sweetheart.
I have questions. What if one of them falls off or like the persons shift. What if the cat falls off is he just gone pretty much like what if they don’t notice. And what if there boat capsizes which yes it’s most likely not but it could happen.
Kids grow up, and someone asks them where they’re from “I’m from the ocean”

“I’m from pacific”

Rayven families on youtube often put on a facade and act as though they’re perfect 24/7 though :)

Oh i didn’t take it badly or serious simply wanted to share my opinion
@@Pugelista41 yeah, that's not what it's like to he a parent in most cases, learning how to wake up every 3 hours isnt what constitutes a parent.
Wow! Great video! Thanks for sharing!! You have a gorgeous boat and family!! What an amazing experience especially for the kids!! To get to see the sun rise and set from that deck, so awesome!!
Congratulations Grandpa , and Grandma 😁
Aunts and uncles too 👍
Happy Independence Day! God Bless America 🇱🇷
I have a feeling your kids are going to have a hard time adjusting to land living . Your living your dream...not necessarily theirs. Good luck .
Hey guys! There have been plenty of replies on this very comment; check it out on Instagram and Facebook. Kudos for you putting it out there for us to ponder and give our two cents worth!
Cheers! Stay the course!
Renee
kids have to live their parents dream until they fly the coop whether on dry land or at sea!
Look like well loved and well balanced kids to me...with all that life experience I'm sure they will adapt well wherever they go.
The kids look a lot happier then many land living teenagers I know
@@puravida7948 I agree 100%.
Continued safe travels to you all!
what an amazing family! You guys are all awesome!!! Thank you for letting us have a little view into your lives, that's very kind of you.
Happy Independence Day from Lubbock Texas. Thanks again for a quality informative video. Love watching you guys.
I used to be on a catamaran ( Fontaine pajot lavezzi) and me and my family made that passage a few years ago. We did the passage in 26 days.
Hey this is just like quarantine but they enjoy it! 😂
When they step on ground, they will probably fall lol
Watching you guys sailing around the world has inspired me. I now want to by a boat and go sailing around the world with my family it is also my daughters dream to go sailing around the world and try new thing's. ⛵
Thank you Mom for putting all the effort into the video! It was a good one I always look forward to Y'all's uploads.
aww I love how he recognized his mom's effort towards the video. she did seem to be handling the camera and getting all the footage for the vid. This is super interesting and I'm glad I came across the vid. good job ya'll!
Crazy that I have watched you guys over 4years, came back to rewatch this video because I remember the fun dance by the four siblings. Love from Kenya
Finn is a reasonable dude haha. -- "...you guys need to work together...".
Just found your channel! Good stuff guys, especially for being independently produced. Godspeed!
Don't listen to most of these comments. I forgot this was TH-cam and it's all toxic.
Also, respect to the editor for making this video enjoyable, family is great of course
Still watching!!! Great video so far, as always!! Thanks for sharing!!
Peace & Safe Sailing from Ky, USA!
Happy Independence Day🖤
What an amazing adventure. We are watching from the beginning on TH-cam. I just skipped ahead to see if you were "Still at it" I love that you are!! I could so see this being a lifestyle change of ours in the next few years.
It’s a good
idea for the person about to go on watch to also set an alarm to wake up,
rather than relying on the person on watch to wake them up…if the on watch
person falls overboard no one will know until morning.
Very good point! 😬
When i started watching i thought the dad might be a little bit on the strict, quiet side but once he started talking all i could think was aww... He's a sweetheart.
Good to be first and great to see ever day life on a cat with a family.
I come from a family of 13
I would kill to live with you guys You guys seem really chill and very kind
“ I got three wrong so I failed the lesson”
“Get rkt”
😂😂😂
Very appreciate you guys sharing you boat live. 非常感謝你們一家分享船上生活。
I have questions. What if one of them falls off or like the persons shift. What if the cat falls off is he just gone pretty much like what if they don’t notice. And what if there boat capsizes which yes it’s most likely not but it could happen.
I just had to go back in time. What changes and growth. WOW!!
