Dead Space 3 wasn't very good, but some of the monsters are very good.
In general, dead space was an extremely creepy game, I legit got scared at a dead space Wii game!
I love good origin stories and this is one off them 😄.

What's kinda scary about Feeders is that, in spite of how radically their bodies have changed, they're still technically living humans: True Necromorphs don't breathe, sleep, or eat. But these hunger, searching frantically for food, in spite of how long it has been. They're also very weak, individually: Unlike necromorphs that require dismemberment, practically any damage will end them quickly. They're basically immortal famine victims, unable to die unless killed violently.
I think the human part of them is gone tbh, I think now when they died, they died so hungry that when they were reanimated, their body still knew hunger so that's why they try to eat
Well to be fair there are some pathetically weak necromorphs like the exploders, crawlers, and The Pack and they are just sad by necromorph standards.
I feel like they are still technecly "alive" but Every thing that defined them as humans has faded away.

The story is a group of native americans got trapped by a snow storm and resorted to cannibalism but when they were freed they were still hungry fir flesh. They were killed and their hurts burned but what their tribe said was the wendigo took over them when they became cannibals. That's what happened to the soiders I say.
The feeders always reminded me of Wendigos from Native American Folklore and I love it.

This was the most interesting part of Dead Space 3, they really should have come up with a plot-related reason for taking away your guns, so that you HAVE TO sneak around them. That would have been a super intense moment.

It would have been killed seeing as on my last playthrough I made a pulse rifle just for it with +2 clip -1 danage clips to see how low their health was. Pretty low.

This reminds me of my granpa's father, he used to pick up cats from the street and eat them during world war 2 because of the lack of food. The hunger was real in Italy back then, some of his comrades even tried to eat rocks, but I guess it's still better than eating your friends infected bodies. Dead space 3 gets a lot of hate but I think they nailed the narration parts throug audiologs to show the horrors of war mixed with a necromorph outbreak. Also I really like your sense of humor and the way you research what happens to humans when they begin to turn into necromorphs and explain it in a realistic way.
Dead space 3 had allot of interesting necromorph but it was short term until back to generic attackers or become cannon fodder.
The best tactic for survival is to learn to grow oyster mushrooms.
An Italian friend of mine also mention his granddad was forced to eat their pet cat and he regretted with guilt until he died, in a symbolic honor to their cat when they went to US after WW2, they named a new cat with the same name.

it really depends on your willpower the cool thing about our brains is we can resist biological needs if you have the willpower and discipline to resist it.
The dead stomach and intestines thing actually happened to Chernobyl victims in 1986. It happened to a portion of the people who got a medium but still lethal amount of radiation poisoning. Their digestive system atrophied while the rest of the body was still alive. Making them die of dehydration and starvation before they could die o radiation burns.
Alittle insight on how the Feeders are made, theres a storage area in the game thats full of Feeders and its where you find a hidden cache. Well you can find ingame lore that tells what happens, two soldiers went down to the food storage cause nobody has been getting their supplies for a week and what wound up happening is the guys incharge of that area tainted and destroyed all the food supplies so some people were turned by the tainted food (which is why you can find so many feeders spread across Tau Volantis) while others just took to cannibalism cause of the Markers influence

Yeah the two soldiers that went down there was that Akerman guy and the other guy was the one you hear screaming in the background of the recording and actually when you go into the area where you first see the Feeders theres a door you walk by and you hear a Feeder banging and scratching at it, thats the guy that went down to the food storage with Akerman. Dead Space is one of my favorite series so I payed really close attention to its lore lol

If you're wondering what happened to soldier's food, it spoiled due to one of their guys going insane and then sabotaging the refridgeration units holding ration supplies.

@@Joseph660 That's just what one of the audio logs had said. In "Food All Gone" someone said: 'He spoiled all the food!" Who the person was referring to I don't know. As for how the food spoiled, maybe the fridge was turned off and a couple of really good heaters were stuck in fridge? IDK.

The Feeder's is similar to zombies, cannibals, and lost travellers with little food. The Feeder slowly mutating from being something not as human is pretty horrifying. The Feeder's remind me of feral ghouls, raiders, splicers, and other insane creatures from various games. Great video, man!

The pack would probably win considering they actually have claws compared to the feeders which just have very long fingers for grabbing. Doesn’t help that feeders are blind as well. Who knows 🤔

I feel really bad for the soldiers who became the Feeders: truly a fate worse than death ;-;
Something I noticed, but am not 100% sure about (since I'm not very good at biology or anatomy), but around the 10:00 mark, it looked like there was SOMETHING in the eye sockets of the Feeder that looked like eyes that were closed. And during the death scene, when the Feeder when for Isaac's head, I could have sworn something came out of its mouth when it latched on. Of course, it could've just been the skin stretching to fit a whole head in its mouth, so that's likely a false alarm.

It probably lost its eyes during its decomposition as a necromorph. Eyes are usually the first thing to go because of how soft they are compared to the rest of your body. Also you are correct, something did come out of its mouth. They were giant fangs. When it bites down on Isaacs head, it will extend its giant fangs which are made out of broken and reorganized jaw bones in order to yank off the head of victims. Imagine the teeth of a Leaper but they can contract their teeth back in the mouth like a snake

In regards to the eye it’s possible the head was reused from another model or designed before the creature was expanded upon and the “eyes” are leftover

The Feeder Necromorph also looks like a classic Wendigo from the original Native American legends. I still don't know how the Wendigo went from looking like a emaciated, skeletal, man with no hair to a stag headed creature.

Easily my favorite necromorph addition in Dead Space 3, even if they're the replacement for the necro-kids from Dead Space 2. The design is simple, but the story behind them was always interesting. Plus, I really enjoyed this entire section of the game along with the freedom of the flotilla grave.
Just note is does not use human teeth to bite or attack, the jaw bone of the upper mouth and lower jaw actually inverts itself out and make it like 4 big fangs. You can see the concept art on wiki. PS FREAKING LOVE THIS NECROS!!!

When I played DS 3 the sound of the feeders always made me shudder and then when they attack I would start cussing as I spray my bullets
Jacob Mariscal, I remember when playing the game bugged out and the sounds of the feeders kept looping.
It drove me crazy, I started attacking the already dead feeders while screaming shut up.
I wonder at which point the individual infected by eating infected flesh crosses the barrier from human to necromorph? Obviously with regular necromorphs die before becoming necromorphs, so that line is much more defined than this situation. Does the original individual who turned into a feeder ever actually die? Or are they always human beings just mutated into what we know as feeders? I think the feeders are a unique situation because it's not clear weather or not they EVER die. Also, if no source of food ever came along for the rest of time, will the feeders eventually die? So many questions with this creature.
I imagine they will just continue to exist, seems the marker doesn't play by the rules concerning decomposition
@@RoanokeGaming I guess the marker also must ignore the rules of metabolic needs too. But that is also assuming that the feeders never actually died. If at some point the host died then they really dont play by the rules of traditional life from that point, given that necromorphs are just dead cells reanimated and controlled by the marker and since the organism is dead there is no need for sustinance. Also, when a necromorph exits the influence of the marker signal, then they just decompose into a semi-liquid substance similar to the corruption. I think that was revealed in dead space 2 when Issac was revisiting the ishumura.
Their heads are their weak point, implying that their brains are still alive and are the only thing keeping them moving, which would seem to imply they aren’t full necromorphs, but some kind of aberration stuck between

4:10 I don't know why but this specific exchange has always been horrifying to me, I've always gotten that horrible fear+disgust feeling from infections that take time and get the infected person or thing to the point where they don't even notice and just go crazy

Always love some Dead Space lore. I would love to see a video on the Feeders vs. The Pack because of how similar they are. The Feeders can take multiple shots while The Pack cannot, one is more built for deception and killing while the other is built to feed, but they both are weak and need to stay together to be able to kill you. I think it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this.

I remember having a class discussion back in high school, people swore up and down that they would *never* eat another human being. I told them quite simply that considering the story we just heard about where people who were stranded ate another to survive, that we probably wouldn’t know what we are truly capable of until we lived it. The entire class went quiet as I spoke. Stories like yours prove my point not only in this context, but in general. We are so disconnected from survival within the solitude of our societies that we can scarcely imagine or flat out go into denial over the horrors that are within our capacity to achieve. Well.....I'm scared for life...
I could say a larger part of their transformation, as part of what you noted in their physiology, is their slow decay.
As was mentioned at how slowly their gut pretty much shut down due to eating the necrotic flesh, and beginning a suspended decaying process, they were essentially losing their minds.
In this process, though they were becoming more and more insane, and closer to death with each passing day, the bigger theoretical difference between them and slashers is the fact that their brain never gave up so soon, if at all. Despite being completely nuts, the brain's strong and primal will to survive starvation kept the marker from taking control, but rather further suspending their animation.
Due to the brain fending off the change for so long, and maybe still, as there isn't a clear sign of total brain-death, these unfortunate soldiers instead utilized the marker signal, and the persistent diet of necrotic tissue, to remain in a constant state of primal suspended animation. Never truly being in control, yet never truly dying. Just "surviving".
It is worth noting that the feeder is the *only* necromorph that can be killed by a headshot alone. That implies that even at that late stage, the most basic parts of the brain (brainstem, amygdala, hypothalamus.) were indeed still active!

Wow, about that "you eat anything after a few days" it can also be added that psychology also plays a huge role. It makes a difference whether you are mentally healthy or if you suffer from some psychological issue.
Some time ago I had a "depressive episode" which also caused "psychosomatic dysfunctions". As the name suggests it is only temporary but what it means in the end is that your psychological effects actually have a physical effect. During this time I felt like shit and had basically everything you could have in my panic attacks, but during the time where I just felt like shit, one of the effects was that I couldn't eat anything. As soon as I tried to swallow some food I'd get the urge to throw up. On one side you do feel the hunger. Once I only ate half a banana in 3 days. Over all I lost 11lbs/5Kg in a week (that's not fat, it's mostly muscle cause your body starts using them up to keep the brain supplied with glucose cause the proteins your muscles are made of can be turned into glucose; the fat can't be turned into glucose) and while you do feel the hunger that intense sensation of feeling sick to your stomach/having to throw up keep syou from eating anything because it actually numbs the hunger sensation. It keeps you from eating, let alone having the desire to eat.
But what I can also confirm is: Once I regained my hunger I ate like CRAZY. At some point I took a pill of Levomepromazine (just to make clear what it was; "a pill" sounds so mysterious) which made me feel a lot better and suddenly I was like: FOOOD! WHERE IS THE FOOD?! I CRAVE TO DEVOUR AN ENTIRE HORSE!!!
Just in advance: I feel much better now. Not because of any pills. That pill I took was a one-time emergency solution cause I couldn't bear it anymore. After that, it went uphill again and I feel pretty fine now again ^^
First I am glad to hear you feel much better! I don't think I had a depressive episode but like many people after a break up, I didn't eat really much of anything simply because my brain wasn't telling me I was hungry and I was flat broke paying rent alone, its interesting to see how the brain will sometimes not care about food, then other times you go 4 hours and you could eat yourself out of house and home haha
Indeed. After finishing my exams for what is our equivalent to High School i was pretty hungry and I just wanted to treat myself so I ordered TWO footlongs from Subway and ate them all by myself... :/
(That was around 1,5 years ago, so way before my depressive episode)

I went through certain...rituals back in my day that called for an extreme lack of available food haha

Cool to see a recent DS 3 video, I personally enjoyed this game, inspite a number of issues/complaints I've heard all over the internet since it launched. I was pleasantly surprised to find people still playing it on the Xbox 360 the other day too!
Very interesting and informative video. Looks like more attention to detail was put into the game then people gave Visceral credit for.
