This is the best vid I have found on the use of the really subtle pedal. I do like mine although I may have been expecting too much in terms of shaping vs. enhancement as you point out. Thanks for posting. The best way to get to know the pedal is to leave it on for a while, then turn it off the effect is more evident. Just switching on/off and turning knobs does not make the subtle differences obvious.
you probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Muhammad Emmitt Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks..best review...had this pedal with the whole align series...sold that board to simplify the set up to a venue and align reverb...but just re ordered the session..man I miss that pedal...subtle but adds so much sparkle to my nylon string tone...
Awsome review, I have a small acoustic pedalboard and I’m having trouble in what order I should organize my chain. I have it this way: guitar>Tuner>IR Pedal>LR Baggs Reverb>LR Baggs Session DI (This is different as the one you are reviewing but is basically the same core)
No worries, if you're running into an amp, I'd place the reverb after the Session DI. However, if you're running straight to a mixing desk you'll probably want to keep the DI last in chain. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for the very informative video on session! Just bought the session and wondering what is the best way of chaining this in my rig. So do you reckon: Acoustic guitar -> Polytune 3 -> Venue (efx loop) -> session -> Chorus -> Blue sky -> Venue (efx loop) -> DI out Or Acoustic guitar -> Polytune 3 -> Session -> Venue (efx loop) -> Chorus -> Blue sky -> Venue (efx loop) -> DI out Thanks in advance!
I'd experiment with both options. The benefit of having the session first is that any additional EQ moves won't affect the comp or saturation. However, you may prefer the Session after the EQ as a type of "finishing" effect. So both would work. It's just really about what you like the sound of ; )
Great Video with consistent A/B examples! Love it. I got the NUX Optima Air based off your other video and it is great. Think I might pick up this pedal as well. The only thing I don't like about this pedal is.....the look. Thanks again!
Great video! I have a nylon string with a built-in piezo pickup that loses its natural tone a bit when plugged in. I would like to boost the volume in a live setting and maybe enhance the tone a little bit, would you recommend this pedal for that or would it be too subtle?
Yep, this would be a great pedal in that scenario. You could also check out their Align Series EQ (or even their VoicePrint DI pedal) for some other great options too. Hope that helps ; )
I haven't tried it. But I think this pedal would work well on most acoustic sources... So, it would probably sound nice on violin. That said, it depends on the pickup though. If it's a little spot mic, running into compression might cause unwanted feedback. So it's really something you'd have to test out. Hope that helps.
I love the Session pedal! It's pretty subtle though... If you're new to pedals, you might be better looking at more of an 'all-in-one' unit like the LR Baggs Venue DI... Hope that helps.
I have a Sennheiser XSW pedal (doubles as a tuner), NUX Optima Air, LR Baggs Session, Strymon Blue Sky, Boss RC-1, and Orange Acoustic Amp. Which order would you recommend for the best signal chain? Occasionally it will go into an amp, but 8 times out of 10 it will run into a stage box which will go into the PA system. Thank you!
No worries. I suggest trying... Wireless System > Optima Air > (Session > Looper - both in the Optima Air FX loop) > Blue Sky. However, if you want to run the Optima Air as your main DI, you could also try the Blue Sky in the effects loop too. Additionally, you might prefer having your looper after the Blue Sky if you like being able to change the reverb sound on some layers. Hope that helps!
I would in general terms always aim for preamp>eq>compressor>reverb&delay. But you could switch reverb&delay to go before compression. And try to high pass filter at around 80-100hz before compressor aswell. And if you use dramatic tone shaper put it right after preamp.
Hi. Wonderful video. Just a quick question. I have a set of new LR baggs pedals and Im wondering in what order I should set them up. Lr baggs venue di Lr baggs sesssion Lr baggs reverb
Thanks! Awesome, those pedals should sound great together ; ) If you're running into an acoustic amp... I'd probably go: the Venue, into the Session, into the Reverb. (Though, you might want to try swapping the Session and Venue around to see which you prefer). However, if you're mainly using the DI 'Output' of the Venue... I'd simply run both the Session and Reverb pedals in the 'Effects Loop' of the Venue. This will give you a more versatile setup and would probably be the option I'd recommend. Hope that helps!
Luke, I noticed that you have some plastic pedal switch covers on your pedals that increases the surface area for easier activation. Can you explain what they are and where to get them, please? They are just what I need. Thanks, Warren
Cheers! I've posted a full walkthrough video of the entire pedalboard here: th-cam.com/video/hDhEw2tq2C0/w-d-xo.html. The video outlines all of the stuff I've used as well as my main concept behind building the board. Hope that helps ; )
Hi, I'm curious. Does the Session pedal by LR Baggs, colour the sound when the pedal is turned off? Lets say that the Session pedal by LR Baggs, is not in the chain, can you tell the difference. From when its in the chain, but turned off.
Yep! I really like these ones: th-cam.com/video/GaArs1d3oSk/w-d-xo.html The RockBoard Flat Patch cables Gold Series are also another great compact option. Hope that helps ; )
Hi would this improve the tone when playing into a Bose s1 pro amp. I’m playing with a K&k pure mini and the sound is ok but I’m looking for that warm fuzzy electro acoustic tone that is forgiving when strumming without that clear pick out every brittle tone. ( if that makes sense). I am certainly hearing that tone I’m after but are you using some other magic. Cheers
Hey! I'm not sure exactly what you're after... But if you're looking for something to add some subtle compression and thickness, the Session pedal is a great shout. You could also check out their Session DI for a bit of extra functionality too. Hope that helps.
@@lukezecchin thanks, I am just a bedroom rockstar and I am new to plugging in. I would like to try pedals out with my Bose s1 pro amp but the local gear shops have limited choice and stock. The sound I was hearing from your review was nice a warm but your guitar also sounded good before you used the pedal. What other pedals do think might be worth checking out.thanks
@@dw1208 There are stacks of great sounding pedals for acoustic guitar. LR Baggs do awesome high-quality stuff. But, depending on your budget, there's plenty of other cool sounding, all-in-one multi-effects too. So on mine I can’t use the gain at all. Like I can’t even turn it past the first hash before it starts lighting up the clip indicator. I’ve even tried turning the pick up all the way down, and that allows me to SLIGHTLY bump the gain to like maybe the 3rd or 4th hash, then starting clipping again. I do play pretty hard but I don’t have any issues out of any of my other pedals. Playing a PRS Angelus SE A60E. HELPPPPPPP!

Thank you for the informative post. I am in the process of putting a small acoustic pedal board together. I currently have the LR Baggs Venue and TC Helicon Harmony Singer 2. I am considering purchasing the LR Baggs Align series Reverb and Session. Could you recommend the chain order of the 4 pedals on the board? Thanks in advance.
No worries! It's hard to say, without knowing exactly how you'll be using your setup. I'm not that familiar with the Singer pedal. However, usually I'd place any pitch effects first in chain. So I'd probably suggest: Singer 2 > Session > Reverb > Venue I'd also probably place the Session and the Reverb in the FX loop of the Venue. That way you have a clean signal hitting the tuner/front end of the Venue. Anyway, hope that helps!
@@lukezecchin Well I need some thing the boost up my volume because I play at a church and I have my volume all the way up on my guitar and in the back they have my volume all the way up but they can’t hear me so they told me that I need a preamp to boost up gain and volume
