    Came to hear the Behringer mostly. I'm a little sad we didn't hear an acoustic instrument other than a steel string guitar but I understand that's what most viewers are interested in. I'm planning on using it to boost a piezo with no pre-amp on a classical acoustic and am aware of my others (e.g. violinists) who are interested in this.

    A fine presentation! Thank you for using a guitar that is like the one most of us would be using (i.e. not a super expensive guitar). The Yamaha sounds great! The sequence, timing, cinematography (pedals pictured on the side while using) are all excellent. The idea of sounding great on a budget is also appreciated. y favs are the AD21 and the HB, though I didn't dislike the others. Cheers!

    4:52 No pedal
    5:03 Bodyrez
    5:13 XVive Mike
    5:24 Artec SE-OE3 Acoustic Outboard EQ
    5:35 Behringer V-Tone Acoustic ADI21
    5:47 Harley Benton Custom Line Acoustic Preamp
    Artec has a parametric EQ for very little money (only one filter) but that should be a VERY good tool for any piezo case if used correctly (mostly it would be a pretty narrow cut performed ). The "Bass-Mid-Hi EQ" you most probably have on the mixing console or amp already.

    Thank you for this comparison...I was actually considering an AD121 and this convinced me to go in that direction....being a solo act, I am not as concerned about being too harsh on the pedal, and thanks to Clifton's response/experience with that pedal, that pushed me the rest of the way.

    Is it weird that I only liked the two cheapest ones, Behringer and Artec
    I don't have an USP, but a Shadow SH711 transducer installed permanently on the inside of a Jasmine (big spender lol). Find it more natural.
    Glad to finally hear a German say 'Behringer', BTW. This video is gonna help me in my ever lasting argument with my British and Spanish friends. Thanks Kris

    I've had the bass version of that Behringer pedal for a very long time. Now using the Acoustic as well. The plastic case and button are really not a problem. I think you would have to really abuse it to break anything. It's so cheap, buy two and have a backup if you think you'd break it. I love that something so inexpensive works so well. I did put a little dot of silver paint on the knobs because in a stage situation it is hard to tell which way they are oriented otherwise.

    • @ParaBellum2024
      @ParaBellum2024 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also use the Behringer ADI21, and in this video I thought it, and the Harley Benton, sounded best. I also marked the knobs to make them easier to see. I've used it on stage many times, with no problems. I bought it to boost the signal from a fairly low-output Fishman magnetic soundhole pickup, which it does very well. As I prefer magnetic pickups (a Shadow SH145 is better than any piezo in my opinion), I haven't used it with piezos.

    Thanks for this - I've been looking for an affordable preamp pedal to go with the Artec piezo pickup in my saz (Turkish baglama). Looks like the Behringer is a good choice for me, as I'll have it switched on all the time so the flimsier construction shouldn't be an issue. That said, I've used their bass driver pedal that's in the same enclosure for years and it has never let me down despite me using the footswitch multiple times during each gig or rehearsal.

    ADI21 is analog, not digital. This is also why it sounds more 'warm'. the' BLEND' knob is a tube amp simulation...but dont go crazy with it; so anywhere from 12 o'clock onwards will give a tube-like tone to your instrument. If your piezo instrument sounds very bright, the 'BLEND' may also help tame the highs.

    • @norbertsmallegange6331
      @norbertsmallegange6331 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the sound is not good, you might start to experiment with better placement of the piezo, also try with multiple piezos plcaed, also a piezo needs a high-z preamp,for instance just a simple j_fet opamp circuit,failing to do, you get bad soundquality. Hope this helps

    I use an ADI21 live since a long time. I’m really happy with it, and I have no reservations about sturdiness. Granted, since I play mainly in church services, there’s not a lot of stage diving going on. But it eats batteries like there’s no tomorrow, even when it’s unplugged and switched off. However, the overdrive is great when it’s not the input stage clipping. I think you could do a more in-depth review of this piece of kit.

    I felt the BodyRez did the best job at achieving something closer to a mic'd guitar. All the rest retained that choked off piezo sound.
    I can't help but assume the Harley Benton preamp, with all its knobs, has a lot more potential when tweaked just right, but the fact that the BodyRez did its job so well with only a single knob absolutely sells it for me. I've watched many reviews of these and other acoustic solutions and, pound for pound, BodyRez takes it. It is definitely a one trick pony, but that trick is very well executed.

    What equipment do you recommend for a budget including the pickups and other required things...
    I have no clue what to get...

      Starting with the guitar, if it feels good in your hands and you like the way it sounds, then that is a good guitar (i.e. it doesn't really matter about brand, etc. I chose my Washburn with electronics over a Martin or Taylor, even though I like Martin and Taylor). Next, the amp. Do you want a natural sound? A Fishman acoustic would work well. I like a solid state for bars since I can goof around with reverb; but I use a PA lots of times, that's why I watched this video - so I could figure out some inexpensive ways to make the piezo sound better :) An eq pedal of your liking will help, then just decide if you want a little chorus, reverb, delay, etc. Most of all, have FUN with it.

    I didn't think ADI21 was digital. They are a cheap copy of Tech 21 SansAmps and those were analog. I could be wrong, I am not insisting, but that is my recollection :)

    I'm a little bit new to the world of guitars. So my question
    I plug my electronic guitar into one of those pedals and my e-guitar will sound like a accoustic guitar?

    • @migrantfamily
      @migrantfamily 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. But there are other pedals that do that. Try “acoustic simulator “ and see what that finds you. That said, electric and acoustic guitar are like piano and organ, similar but also very different.

      I use the TC Electronic Bodyrez on electric guitar. It seems to be taking out some mids and adds a bit of compression, but it's a cool sound that gives me plenty of compliments on my tone! It's a no brainer for my acoustic guitar, since it makes the transducer sound much better.

    Great info here. I'd have loved to hear the guitar Without Effects for a reference-tone, so we can Hear exactly what each pedal is doing to the base-sound.

    I know this video is old but I just don't see the the value of a pedal to "enhance" an acoustic instrument sound that doesn't involve an impulse response.

    They all sounded awful to me. Bodyrez is the only one I've actually used, and it made my J45 feel and sound awful. Getting a natural acoustic guitar sound with a pickup going through an acoustic amplifier, is a nightmare! The best I have managed so far is an irig acoustic stage, but even that is no where near as natural sounding ( and feeling ) as I would want.

    Best way to un-piezo you guitar?
    Buy a Fishman Rare Earth pickup.
    I hate the sound of piezos!

  • @jerrykooyman

    Im sorry to say this, but all of these devices sounds bad and is hopeless. Whatever you do with these effects, you will never hear the real acoustics of the guitar body. Beside that, the sound is artificial, lifeless and flat. It's a shame that most brands don't have any knowledge about amplifying the real characteristics of an acoustic guitar. They mostly placing an 'under the saddle' pickup because it's the easiest way for them to place but it's worst nightmare for the sound.
    You must begin to replace the factory pickup with a piezo disc which should be placed inside on the soundboard. The position of the piezo disc is very important, but if you know how to do it... you will experience a great real acoustic sound which you've never heard before on your amp. No need for pedals or effects anymore. If you want to know more about this, feel free to write me a message.

    Sorry, but only the TC sounded good here.
    There's no solution other than to embrace the Piezo or combine it with a different system. Embrace the full range, scoop the mids and let these highs shine like how they do on a mixed acoustic guitar. Throw in that compressor and reverb because these systems will never ever sound good dry.
    Most people don't know how to use the Piezo and it's sad.

      @Icaro Costa you are probably right. But the price of Aura is 300€, and these are budget pedals. For that price these pedals are awesome!!
      I wanted to buy Aura, but Im not professional player, so I will probably buy Bodyrez.

    They all sound more like plastic than an acoustic guitar. It's hard to believe how advanced amp modeling is for electrics now, but we can't make a real acoustic sound loud enough for performance.
