    I want to state first that I did not animate the figures in the painting, that was done by the marvelous NPM 國立故宮博物院
    Please check out their links and see their original videos below. These will be much longer, and without any audio.

    • 古畫動漫─明人出警入蹕圖03 Paintin...
    • 古畫動漫─明人出警入蹕圖04 Paintin...
    In order to distinguish from their videos I have made sufficient editing changes as well as inserted music to heighten the sense of immersion for you all.
    SUBJECT
    The video depicts segments of the famous Ming scroll painting 出警图 "The Departure Herald" from the Jiajing reign period (1522-1566 AD); the painting shows the emperor's large imperial procession heading towards the imperial tombs of the Ming emperors located roughly 50 km north of the capital Beijing. The famous painting is currently housed in the National Palace Museum of Taiwan and could be viewed in detail here.
    commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...
    For more about the particulars of the soldier's equipment, please check out here:
    dragonsarmory.blogspot.com/201...
    Encapsulated into both scrolls, the artists depicted the entire event over time and space from the departure, arrival at the destination, and return to the capital. The traditional means of viewing "Departure Herald" is from right to left, whereas "Return Clearing" is from left to right. "Departure Herald" represents the emperor riding a horse, taking land route from the capital, while in "Return Clearing", he is shown riding on a boat, taking a water route back to the palace.

    Wasn't as great as Han or Tang dynasty, but still lovable. Can you imagine how will China be today if Ming dynasty managed to fend off the Shun rebellion and possibly the Manchurian invasion, and also regain popularity among the nation's subjects. China still under Han rule from 1644 until 1917? I bet she will be like Japan or UK today. Glorious and powerful.

    I wonder how the 2 handed cutting polearms were used tactically. They obviously take up the slot that could have been used for a lance. I guess it's for skirmishing instead of getting stuck in delivering shock. Use the reach of the polearm to get in a devastating swipe and then move on, similar to how one would use a curved saber. It seems only oriental agrarian empires use this with their cavalries. The mongols weren't known to be big users.

    • @majungasaurusaaaa
      @majungasaurusaaaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jimmy Xie Also, mongol lances often featured hooks. In order to make use of them to unhorse heavily armored riders, one must use 2 hands, making them 2 handed polearms as well.
      Modern parades feature real battle field weapons in their usual configuration. You wouldn't spend millions into fake props.

      @@andrewyuyoungearn2799 you're right too, I guess in China these dynasties are considered the cultural and historical Golden age. The ming dynasty, especially with its catastrophic downfall at its end and the two year war against the qing mandshu which they've lost (estimated 25 million deaths) however there's also good things to look at. I generally really like the cultural products of this period
