In contrast, do you think that alternative color schemes and antique inspired rooms could be the making of a property?
No. I think what Sophie did is spot on. This house was already antique in a bad way.
This show should be called "the power of paint and decluttering".
Yes I think most homes will sell faster if the owners decluttered and cleaned them first.
@@user-bescar Agree, especially if clutter suggests place is not well taken care of
Yeah, 'knew someone signing for a new property in the morning immediately after visiting it. Came home, took cardboard boxes and same evening totally removed all clutter, photos, anything not neutral, keeping a couple of plants and 1 piece of wallart per room. That place was sold in 1 day.
Personnally I place on one table or surface some fruits in a bowl. And some fresh cookies in a beautiful big glass jar for visits in the mornings and afternoon break time people are just taken away by it. Fresh flowers, not too colourful are a must.
@@PS-bs8oe Agree. Cookies are fruits are making place welcoming. This is crucial. There are other properties to compete with.
Lovely except for the shades of green... The fireplace and stairway are stunning!
I was on board with the green in one room, but not every room! It’s just too much.
it looks like they got a discount on green lol
Too much green for sure!
I hate that green. Seems she wants to use it everywhere in every renovation. Had it here when we moved in & I almost didn't buy the house because of the ugly lime green color.
@@lindaeade6515 Never understood why someone would not buy a house because of a color. Paint is cheap and an easy project
I like all the green.
I would have gone with more neutral colors to create a blank canvas for buyers, so much color
I've watched way too many episodes. Now I look around my house and think 'uh-oh!' Sophie and Anthony, HELP! LOL!!! It can be done.
I love green, but this is a bit of green overload. I think a more neutral color (even white) with green and red or green and orange or green and blue accents would have looked more contemporary...but this IS an older show.
Removing the railings seems like a dangerous idea…
I don’t know the Building Laws in Canada... However, in the United States there has to be handrails minimally on at least one side on all staircases inside and out.
According to building codes there should be at least one railing
Packing most of everything will make it much easier when this family sells and moves to their new home
The new “kitchen” table was ridiculous. Not big enough to eat at and looks like it belongs on a patio but hey it’s a 15 year old reality tv episode
Haha yea! That table is definitely a patio table😂 and the one they had at the beginning was more appropriate for an eat it kitchen table
Its alot of green
Green to makes more green($)❤️🖤💚
Very French cottagy
I agree particularly that shade of Green isn’t my cuppa tea... Although, it’s definitely better than it was before!
This is the best job I've seen her do. My only complaint is no banister at all on the stairway.
Yes, not so neutral, I don’t care for it.
I usually love green but that living room is horrendous. They should have kept one of the rails
I remember her criticizing a prior home that had that hideous green in it.
Yes I was thinking of that episode too! They just do the opposite of whatever the house looks like for a “dramatic transformation”
Aw! I LOVED the door chimes!
My grandmother had those same chimes (the sound brought back memories!) but hers was a huge Victorian house. That's a lot of chime noise for a smaller house. Probably dates back to 100 years ago when the house was built.
Must be an old show. A home for $279,000 in Toronto doesn’t exist any more.
Put a million in front of that number in Toronto if that were sold in 2022.
Might have been nice to hear what she actually got for the house.
It’s not my taste however it’s definitely looks more appealing than it did before.
They should have kept that doorbell. It was cool. Too much green.
Good job well done. Lovely colours
I like the new stairwell, and the kitchen looks great, but that green is awful! Green is beautiful, but you have to be careful on the shades, and that one is not a great color for a lot of complexions. I liked the marble for the fireplace, but I actually liked the old fireplace better and those weird dining chairs in the living room! Oh well, not my house, and if she and/or the buyers like it, great. All I know is I'd be looking at that and thinking of what color I'd be repainting.
The kitchen table in the living room looks out of place. Don't like the green.
Yeah I think dining table before made more sense or they need a wall divider. Space is too large.
The home owner is offended by Sofie's glibness, but pragmatic enough to not show it.
Well presented and stylish outcome
Lovely ending
seen. Lovely! Green looks stunning.
“Not my style?”What style? Tacky ? 😂
A lot of styles are ancient and antique now . But I think that it's more of a mentality to the style. Very European, most of them gravitate towards socializing around a kitchen table. Like on a farm, when someone dropped in casually, the lady was able to continue chores while chatting with visitors. Eating has a very social connection for ethnic groups. The parlor tea is a more elete, cozy concept. Entertaining in bedrooms, and treating them as family room/office is another stand out sense. The blankets are recognizable old world Europe flavors. The doorbell chimes would be neat, but placing them in a dining room is odd again in our culture.
Ikea is modern, but it has a different flavor than when Americans attempt it. They're not into bulky whether old or new, sleek or traditional, but Western folks often didn't have tools to fine tune some things,or small trucks or cars for instance aren't practical when your bracing yourself in need of a four wheel drive on some rugged road.
Brilliant Sofie and tearm,It's so pretty.
12:42 How do you know your mum isn't watching you, Sophie? There's such a thing as TH-cam, you know. LOL
AS Always you did amazing Work!Much To much Green!
But
Great update!
Since yesterday I am watching ur videos n today In this video I saw lime green is used which is a decent n cool colour. Thanks God u came out of ur zone of brown light brown or coffee. U need different colors not repetitive use of same colour
So what did it eventually sell for? Surely the listed price increased after the improvements, so what was the new price? Not a show I would watch again.
Horrible! She usually does much better than this. And that staircase without any handrail at all?? That's dangerous and could be against code. Disappointing.
It's always horrible, I don't get her taste...
Yes I was wondering about the handrail on the staircase myself. It is dangerous.
@@user-bescar that's staircase without any handbrail is a nightmare waiting to happen especially if a family buys that house kids running up and down oh my God I don't even want to think about it. And then what's with all the green? It's just so odd
FYI: please do not give milk to your grown pets. They can digest their mother’s milk when nursing because they make lactase to help digest the milk sugar, lactose. That ability is outgrown so milk hurts them as it does to humans that don’t make lactase. That is why some humans are able to take lactaid (lactase) so they can eat/drink food with lactose in it. Other humans have evolved the ability to continue producing lactase.
I like it but I would have removed the carpet from the staircase
Green is my favorite color but they really Overdid it with Way Too much green. All that green in the living room makes me want to gag🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I will say this series adores green and overuses it
Lime green would be turn off to most ppl. Not a good turn out
I liked the old fireplace stove better.
The green is awful should gobe with a nut Meg or pastel taupe
I LOVE the fresh green
What's up with the 70s color scheme
More like early 2000's. The show is from 2006/08.
Doesn't code require a stair rail at least on one side? None is dangerous. So many times the way something 'looks' for potential buyers seems to be more important than safety or budget issues.
Just a bit curious...what is up with the apple in a bowl at each place setting? I've seen similar things done with artichokes and just wonder why, as people don't eat either of those foods that way.
I can't see how they did all that work for $3,600!!!
And I wonder what the bathrooms look like!!!
They don't include labor in the cost and/or the show pays for some of it.
I love the color green
Most certainly better than it was before, BUT I still don't like it. In my opinion, it wasn't decorated very well in the end. Very anti-climatic. 😔 The best way I can describe the style afterwards is "early 2000 Red Carpet look" 😬 I definitely would have went with a more neutral green on the walls and for goodness sake, get some different shades of green in there to blend it all together.
Well, the show is from 2006/2008 so there is that.
@@vaderladyl well that makes a lot of sense. I really didn't believe any broadcasting station would air that nowadays ☠️😅
Amazing woman, Best of lucks
Please use anything but green that is for outside, use your calm colors like light grey and blues please.
Surprising she didn't know how to change a simple light fixture! She has been supervising renovations for a long time. Very basic knowledge for someone in her line of work!
Admiration for her owning a house! But she has no taste at all and many things are just not taken good care of. Decluttering and cleaning would help in most cases. And hearing: oh the light is bright so I can read ? Has she not heard of brassies table lamps?
Oh my… people are so clueless…. If you don’t have any sense of style, ask a well meaning friend.
Every house I go to there are things that are unnoticed by people living there. Even my own house. One needs fresh eyes and honest people to tell you what is wrong. And then: don’t be offended! They have always good intentions.
Sorry the redo is horrible. That green is hideous. And the back of the chair facing the fireplace.
So they do up the fireplace, and then still put something in front of it! 😳
Seriously when people put their house on the market don't they declutter take down all their personal stuff all the teddy bears all the floral blankets just pack them up put them away get some neutral stuff clean it up and let boys see the house that's all common sense you don't need Sophie coming in and destroying good wood and everything else.
I dont know when that was filmed but now it sells for 1 m
I've watched too many episodes of Nate Berkus and Jeremiah (and some others) --- where they have a lot of money to put into ultra-cozy decor. With The Unsellables, the upgrades ---- while always a big improvement --- often look too austere and kind of depressing to me. I've been spoiled by some of the other shows! I wish they had a wee bigger budget. xo
Why so much lime green? How bout just one wall? The first things I’d do if I bought is paint over it?!!!
G'day! What is the sword-shaped object on the table at 14:36?
The green hasn’t aged well. It’s hideous. And the white colour in the kitchen that the owner didn’t like is still workable today. Just proves if you want to sell, don’t think about what you like, but what will appeal to more potential buyers. Covering the walls on the stairs and hiding the exposed piping was probably the best thing they did here. The furniture looked dated even for that time (20 years ago??)
Hate the green chairs in the living room
Why are the dining chairs in the middle of the living room? It looks weird.
🇷🇴 România ! 🙃
I like green but not that green and wayyy too much.
terrible idea. she is asking for her house literally over $100K less than other houses. should have redone the kitchen and few other things, spent like 30k and ask for the house close to 400K like the other place that r being sold in that area.
I think she just didn't know how or have anybody to show her how
This whole thing is hideous-- all it needed was to declutter and rearrange. They took out all the charm by painting wood in the kitchen and removing vintage fireplace grill.😢
You have to have the money to do it which I’m assuming she doesn’t. And the show can’t renovate the entire house to the level you’re talking about for 4k, lol.
It looks fine- unless you are not fond of the bright greens!
After watching several of these shows I see that whoever chooses the paint usually chooses nice neutrals except for that peculiar lime green.. or variations of that shade. I hate it! Yikes & it's in almost every house
What year did this air?
2006 to 2008
I don’t like the end product, the color scheme is cold, have no idea why the table is in the sitting room, sitting room isn’t inviting and looks like a waiting room, it’s kinda meh 😕 hope this lady sold her house though
If you're going to cut it down by 3 minutes, I'd rather see the open house and the opinion of buyers than the comparable house.
Take off one of the stair rails, hmmm ok, take off both - definitely no. And the silly little table in the kitchen is not convincing, nor are the two random green dining chairs in the sitting room.
That green theme is just weird. The green curtains were disgusting. What were they thinking? Was there a bargain basement clearance on ugly green cr*p that day?
I would have chosen a different more neutral color- too much green.
Pea soup color is big turn off for me and not neutral at all!
I inow they are trying to save money, time but i don't like the idea of just covering the fake brick paper.
The green fetish has returned again. Much like the basement of another home transformed. Stop with the green already!
Her taste is desperate.....give me Kirsty any day....
I would have liked you had finished off with price she got????? Too much green. Wooden bench not great , preferred in kitchen. Garden white table& 2 chairs can be moved by of course.
On the whole nigh change for better. Good luck
Really rude! Never smiled, and it was obvious she looked down on the homeowner, going so far as to say something was it “bad taste”. The homeowner was obviously uncomfortable with her and her disapproval. The homeowner is a different culture and background, and whether or not other people like it, she was comfortable in her own home. Other cultures are not poor imitations of western culture, and western culture is not the pinnacle of “good taste“. If you’re going to go on to other peoples homes, the least you can do is be gracious. I will not be watching any more episodes of the show. The only bad taste here was the behavior of the so-called hostess.
Hello Signe. I agree with you. This homeowner has accomplished a lot and should be congratulated. She immigrated to a new country, works full time, is raising her son and purchased a home! Bravo! She probably obtained furniture the smart way, via resale shops. The decorator for this program should have recognized this lady's accomplishments while helping her make the home more appealing to buyers. I hope this lady sold the home and her life is wonderful.
Too much green…..
OMG, these green, artificial colors are a disaster. The living room looks disgusting. Strange taste.
Green, green everywhere. Not very attractive.
way too much green
That green is awful... should of gone with a more suttle color
Ugh the green everywhere looks terrible.
Wow that is awful 😖
Needs new kitchen
That green was truly awful, sory.
She Romanian hence unrelated multiple colours
Sorry still don’t like it
You should never sell your house just give it to your child don't risk it in a marriage you don't know what's going to happen
Im sorry but that shade of green in the living room is awful.
So much junk laying around!
I can't tell you how irritating it is when someone posts a show that old and it's days 4 weeks ago...
Eating in the living room seems to be a British thing. Not a fan of that
Isn’t that the dining area that she had before and Not considered to be the living room in her house. Many places even here in America, designated a part of their great room as the dining room table area.
I honestly don’t know anyone in England, or Britain that eats in the living room. Either in the dining room, the kitchen or at the dining table in the _thru-lounge_ 🥴 but never in the living room. Still I guess it’s fashionable to knock the Brits.
Not too keen on this design...i can tell the designer loved green and rooms were to basic and boring lol
I’m a flipper.. Don’t give owners tips please!!! We need business!!
