Two young attractive and talented guys fell into the hands of some powerful people who used them as if they meant nothing to the world. Rob and Fab didn't deserve what happened to them, and Rob eventually paid the highest price for it. I have waited for more than two decades to see an apology from the so-called music industry including Frank, but nothing seems to be coming forward. This, unfortunately, was the greatest fall of the last century, of two civilians who were robbed of their youth and their innocence. I remember idolizing them before it all went bad. Thanks Patrick for giving him the time and ears.

They fully participated and had all the wealth and associated fame. It didn’t collapse until they blackmailed the producer. It’s complex and they were certainly culpable. Behaving as if they were victims is not honest.

I actually love the way FAB doesn't run and hide from the Milli Vanilli "scam"! He embraces that shit now as part of his history, and when he does a show he gets up and sings a couple of those Milli Vanilli classics! And I mean he REALLY sings them LIVE and he sounds pretty damn good too! Even surprisingly close to the original records! You'd actually believe they really did sing on those songs, because Fab has the real talent! The crowds go nuts too! It's not what you'd expect by just watching news clips and documentaries about them on TH-cam. Fab puts on an awesome show, and people really enjoy it! A real inspiration!!!

He could simply do his solo act with all his own solo material, and refuse to sing any Milli Vanilli songs, since Milli Vanilli technically doesn't even exist anymore. But he chooses to add in the Milli Vanilli material because he knows that people still love that music and are still Milli Vanilli fans, despite the whole scandal.

What he is known for better or worse is milli vanilli and the scandal. That is forever trenched into peoples mind. I had the privilege to meet Robert in the mid nineties via a friend of his named Rita. He seemed very defensive at first, but after a few months, we managed a friendly way to get along. Rita and I actually saved Robert' s life during an overdose. He wouldn't had made if it wasn't for us stopping by and checking on him while he was staying at the St James . He told me part of his life experiences and he ended shedding tears of sadness. I knew then that he was traumatized. I recommended therapy and rehabilitation to him. I remember displaying a happy face when I took a couple Quick and Split burgers for him. I also saw him laying at the stairs to the upper bar at the Rainbow . I carried him out and took him to his place. I felt that I did the right thing. He confided a secret to me that he probably did not tell anyone else. Sad that he is gone.

Milli Vanilli became popular during the time when MTV was popular among young people. The 80's was all about image, styles and dance music. For singers and bands to become popular during that time, they needed to have the right image. Having the right image and style during the age of MTV was more important than having talent. Before MTV, people didn't pay too much attention to the image and style of musicians. People care more about the music. However, when MTV came along in the early 80's, music videos became popular among kids and in order for musicians to have their videos play on MTV, they needed to have the right image and style. This was went video stars killed the radio stars. Having the right image over shadowed the music. Milli Vanilli represented the MTV era where having the right image was all you needed to become famous. The music business started seeking artists that have the right image instead of having the right talent.

I still listen to the songs in my car today. The songs are classic. I was in the bank and a woman messed up her account and the teller told her not to beat up her side because it is raining outside. I began to sing, "Blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling." Everyone in the line began laughing. Man, I love the songs. I wish Rob hadn't died and I hope Fab bounces back big time.

Long time Milli Vanilli fan so this was an awesome surprise. Great interview! Even before I knew much about what had gone on behind the scenes, I didn't think Rob & Fab deserved the treatment they received after their secret was exposed. Frank Farian should've let them sing from the beginning. Look up their live performance of an unreleased song called "Don't Give Up the Fight." So happy Fab hung in there and he's doing very well for himself now.

Fantastic in depth interview. They were and still are my all time fantastic group. My sadness for Milli Vanilli shows with what happened with Rob. They were both robbed of their dignity from the very start and that is something no one should ever take from someone. It would be a different story if they met a humble producer at the start. My hat goes off to you Fab. You are a gentleman and a humble being. My young kids love you and Rob and the performances you have us. I will never forget what you gave my childhood and I still follow you to this day on TH-cam. Go in peace brother the world is your oyster and you have redeemed both you and Rob. Fun story about Fab- Back in 1990, i was 18 years old. Two friends & I went to a Milli Vanili concert. We were picked to go back stage & were then invited back to Rob & Fabs (two adjoining) hotel room. Rob was in his room w/ a girl. We hung out w/ Fab and his stage manager in the other room. At one point the girl w/ Rob quickly ran out of Robs room, into the living room of Fab’s room and ran out into the hallway not saying anything. Within a few minutes the police came knocking on the door. It was chaos. We were led out into the hallway and had to give the police our ID’s. Young MC and the host “Downtown Julie Brown” came into the hall to understand what was going on. Rob came out into the hallway and was yelling for all to hear “I was receiving a massage from a friend”. Apparently the girl who stormed out called the police because she “feared for the safety of the other girls”. The police instructed us to leave the hotel but Fab and the tour manager told us they didn’t want us to go so the tour manager whisked us away to his room & Fab said he would come when things cooled down. He did and we spent the entire night hanging out with Fab until the sun came up. He was an ABSOLUTE GENTLEMAN. The most risqué thing that happened was we massaged his back. Even at 23, he was much like he presents himself; 100% genuine. As a young teenager spending an evening w/their favorite singer- it was a magical night.
Years later I received a court summon as a witness on Robs rape case. I was in the military in Germany & was excused.

It was really good hearing the true story behind Milli Vanilli, cuz I remember it so well when the story broke out in the media, that they weren't singing themselves. I so feel for them. It's a shame that Producers are using AND ABUSING people like this, for their own gain. Why wouldn't they get the chance to sing themselves??? I know Fab got the voice for it. The music industry is so rotten! Through the core!.... All my love to you guys. Great interview, Patrick.

I enjoyed this interview. I have always loved and been a fan of Milli Vanilli. I was obsessed with Rob. It's such a tragic story and it's so sad how so many of their fans just hated and turn away from them after the scandal. Rob and Fab were awesome performers, entertainers, actors, and dancers. That's what sold these albums!!!!!!! And if Rob and Fab would have been the real singers from the beginning they still would have gone to the top like they did. Everyone got screwed by Frank Farian including the real singers. Frank admitted to orchestrating the Milli Vanilli scandal and he still got away with it?!?!?! WHY???? Why didn't Frank Farian get in trouble or why wasn't he sued for all this mess that HE made? WTH?!?!?! I don't get it!!! It's very upsetting that Rob and Fab got their grammys taken away from them and left with lawsuits but Frank continued to live rich and continues grow old (78 years old), when poor Rob only lived to be 33 years old and all Rob wanted was to sing. I'm sure it pained Rob that he was given up for adoption and that he felt like an outsider during his childhood but he was trying to make something of himself with music and I believe he would have been alright if he would have been given the chance. But in the end he struggled with suicide and drug abuse because he was unable to handle the negativity and embarrassment of the Milli Vanilli scandal which I believe drove him over the edge. To this day I continue to listen and to watch their videos because I will be a forever fan of Milli Vanilli. RIP Rob, I love you.

I lived in Bavaria at that time and many things that Fab mentioned resonated with me and are true to this day.. It's also true what Patrick said, MV for sure had two qualities out of three and could have potentially been a "triple threat" by the grace of the universe.
