I use to fish tournaments, had the big fancy bass boat with the high performance motor on back, then one tournament while i was out, it hit me like a semi running over an armordillo, i had two young children at home , age 3 and age 7 and a beautiful wife at home . I worked all week , it was a Saturday, i thought, i could be home watching barney, with a thousand toys scattered everywhere on the floor, looking at my beautiful wife cooking something in the kitchen, or i could stay here and impress people with how fast my boat goes and show them i can catch a bass.....hummmmm came home, sold my boat, never looked back. Made memories with my wife and kids that i ll keep in the live well of my heart forever.
I did the same thing in 1997! My boys were 6 and 2. Sold my Ranger and bought a 16 foot Johnboat with a 40 horsepower tiller handle. I still have it! Gotta a new Suzuki 25 on it now. We made many memories!

I used to fish Crappie tournaments in my 20's, and it was slightly more laid back and kind of enjoyable. I fished a few bass tournaments and hated it because of this kind of craziness that bass fisherman seem to exhibit just about everywhere. That is even seeping into the crappie tournaments now, so it's a no thanks even for that. I don't give a good GD where you think you pre fished or what you think is your spot. You don't own the water! I prefer to stay away on tournament day. It's worse than the 4th of July with the drunks.
That 250hp+ outboard and trolling motor combo, transom, and the gel coat he just marred...looks like you gotta win every tournament for the next 11 years to break even, Hoss.

You never pass another boat on the inside...and this video is a prime example why. When you start rocking back and forth from a boat wake...you slow down. You never take a blind corner. Last, always wear your kill switch. Bass boats are extremely dangerous. Many people do not understand just how dangerous a bass boat is. As others have said, this man is lucky to be alive.

He did nothing wrong man. When you ride wake like that in a turn you never know when the boat will hook. If you’ll notice it kicked out on the right side when it rode up one side of the wake. When it fell back down in the trough it hooked the boat, you can hear it blow out and basically at that point you have NO control whatsoever.

I remember one time years ago I was in a paddle boat with my Dad on a lake, and we were trying to race back to the dock (camping trip) as a storm was coming in. There was a patch of lily pads and I'm like "Should we go around those?" and Dad says, "No, they'll just push out of the way." They didn't, they tangled up in the paddle part and we got stuck. Thankfully we were able to break free after a few minutes, but we ended up getting soaked. This guy had it worse I think though.
NEVER ride in the trough of another boat going that fast!!! That move is dumber than a box of frozen shrimp!!! Luckeeeeee as hek, he is still alive!!! 2 options here, slow down considerably and alter course to starboard about 30 degrees. Or, simply just cool her off and tuck in behind the other guys and follow them at 70 mph instead passing them at 72.

I live on the lake and see all kinds of boats, from yachts, to cigarette boats to bass boats. Bass boats are by far the fastest. During tournaments it's like watching the boat races. Bass fisherman are by far the most egotistical assholes on the water, racing other assholes 80mph in an $80k sonar equipped boat to catch a 2 lb. bass.
I had to pull my gun on a man one day. He flew by my girlfriend and i anchored down catfishing a main river ledge in our kayaks like literally closer than ive everhad someone come. Not even 5 yards away.Filled both our boats with water. Goes 100 yards stops comes back by fishing the bank in between us. I yelled at him and told him if he does that again that boat wont make it back to the ramp. He acts as if hes leaving and guns it straight at me like hes gonna hit me and cuts it literally last minute i grabbed my gun an pointed it at him as he was coming back around to do it again and he took off like the pussy he was. I have a genuine hate for bass boaters since then. Still to this day the only boats i have issues with flying by me 10 yards away are jack ass bass boaters.

I bass tournament fish for 20+ years, I saw that coming as soon as he took to the inside. Was to close to the shore, I’m sure that lower unit is toast. The speed is not so much about speed, it’s about getting to the prime spots before the competition gets there. This dude was a rookie, and did not know how to handle his equipment. I doubt he or the tournament he was in was sponsored.
I have never understood why those boats are rated for so much horsepower. The hull is designed for stability while fishing not seakeeping. Their rounded cross section and low gunwales make them very dangerous at high speed. Glare, dim light, and other objects can make it impossible to see wakes and obstructions before it is too late. On the bodies of water that these boats are used on are not so large as to make a meaningful difference in travel time between 50 mph and 25 mph. All that horsepower can't even be used on large bodies that present a chop with only moderate wind. For the cost of purchasing, maintaining, and fueling those huge motors you get the benefit of arriving at your fishing spot five minutes earlier, that is if you get there at all.

I don’t fish MLF events but have seen videos of FLW safety checks well before their takeoff. If that’s the case I think they should have the safety checks like most tournaments, where they check kill switches as you’re coming through at take off. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Regardless...it’s in ALL tournament rules.
@Jim Johnson Touching land doesn’t immediately disqualify you in bass tournaments. there’s obviously a lot of reasons you can’t touch land lkke getting out of the boat in order to float your boat into a shallow area for access or anything that could be cheating. but this wouldn’t be that case, you can also leave the boat to use the bathroom if needed
As a guy with a 60hp, always wonder why no speed limits on water 50-60-70 mph with no lanes, putter fishing boats, kayaks, paddle boards, skiers. Had my doors blown off by guys running full bore on crowed water these “pros” need start acting like they don’t own the lake.

Very expensive lesson. High performance bass boats can be Extremely dangerous. Had my share of close calls and most were not worth the risk. Little green or brown fishies are not worth the risk we bass fisherman take sometimes. Glad you’re okay.

@@804kingoffoamsjs5 He got up 41 seconds into the video after putting the motor in neutral, didn't disconnect anything and the motor was still running... unless I missed him disconnect.
