A lot of people don’t know this, but metal screaming is something that takes practice, there are proper ways to do it without damaging your voice. You can’t just force a scream out, it causes damaged to your vocal cords. I believe Serj never used proper metal screaming techniques. Age doesn’t matter, he’s not too old for ANYTHING. Go look up metal screaming training and you’ll see. I still love Serj and I will always be a fan of him plus System 💙 Forever a Metal Head!

He didn’t just do metal screaming , he every fucking technique in the book from a crazy vocal fry , baritone , frenetic screams without control ….age does matter …. I am telling you … vocal cords are heavily dependent on the strength and resting tone of your larynx… and this is proven in the field of laryngology … his singing was done properly but there were some parts that would have killed off his vocal cords .hence he doesn’t do his vocal fry in his high singing anymore ….

everyone keeps saying he might have damaged his vocals before but you gotta remember serj is not just another random metal or punk singer. he is very skilled and careful with how he sings and how he keeps his voice in such good condition. tbh I think he just got tired of the sound. he had a pretty similar voice through out most of soad's discography and as one of the most artistic people I can think of I think he really did justt want to do something different. if you do art for as long as he has even doing vocals in the same style can get tedious and boring. now I do think age also played a part as no one keeps the same sound or vocal range as they go from their late 20's to their elder years but I don't think that was the main reason for the change. with soad I don't really think it fits so much but with his solo stuff it's beautiful and I think that's probably another reason why he changed his style. he didn't want to do the same stuff he did in soad.

Check the bridge, the TRUE powerful "scream" happens around 2:09. Not a growl, but actual shout with a rasp voice - sounded just like the old days. Also I'm sure he did the same thing on more performances of ADD in recent years. Check out and see.
So I guess he's old voice is still there in him, somewhere. But he doesn't want to use it and most likely he wouldn't be capable of doing it more.
Also bear in mind that sadly, his singing wasn't and isn't technically proficient. His singing technique isn't the best (altho he produced great vocals back in the day)

It was never a matter of if Serj was able or not able to pull off the vocal performance he had in the past, he simply doesn't want to do it, and he has the artistic ability and liberty to choose what vocal style works best for what he wants to express.

They were doomed from the start, he wasn't as passionate to their style compared to the other members but as they said it's not the fault of one member as they can always have a workaround and maybe change their overall style but that is risky and they chose to end it at their best and go down without a song hated by their fans.

Nothing is similar to Toxicity, the guitar riffs are just generic rock, its not bad but not Amernian enough to be considered like toxicity. Piano work isnt bad, but I find off how It can go from smooth and elegant to BOOM Random Rock Riff. Thats probaby the only thing I can relate it to Toxicity, but only the song, not the album. But even with that, When it comes down to the Toxicity song, the riffs, and the smooth parts are in a rhythem.
Smooth, Rock, Smooth, Rock, Smooth, Rock, Breakdown, Rock. Every song from Elascity so far just seems randomly thrown in. The only song where there seems to be some for of Pattern that makes is the Elasticity song. His voice which I dont mind that much, its not bad at all, but I dont think his younger voice would sound to different in this songs then how he sounds now. His voice doesnt sound too different when hes softly singing its when he gets loud is where you see he has no rasp and all nasal, The only song I can see benefiting from his old voice is Elasitcity however it would only change the song by like 2%

I've listened to a few of their songs and would like to like them but I find them unlistenable.

So I’ve pronouncing his name wrong for years? I’ve been saying it like “surge.” Also, I say SOAD like one one word, he goes S-O-A-D…

I've heard him speak about not seeing "eye to eye" with the band previously but honestly, somebody in that band needs to grow up and get over their ego for the sake of what they can offer the world and many they can help. They talk about liberal ideas and yet can't get over their own greed of credit and money. And that's exactly what it is, greed. I say "they" but we all know which members of the band are causing the problems.

Expecting a singer to perform at the same level at 55 that they did at 35 is like asking an athlete to do the same, it's just not possible, the body ages unfortunately.
