Teen depression/suicide. We get so much drug and alcohol awareness and sex education, but nobody knows how to deal with a friend who cuts himself.
Definitely, I've had so many suicidal friends that I've wished I could help.
I know I am a few years late, but hope you are all doing better. Struggled with depression for many years, fine now. Adults need to take this seriously.

90% of the song I write are inspired off merely the way I'm feeling in that exact moment and not really a defined construct or idea.

A cause I care about, is the disconnect between how Native American culture is represented in media and what is ACTUALLY is and has been. Only certain tribes lived in teepees, wore headdresses, decorated with feathers in certain manners, but movies tend to group it all together as if there is no cultural differentiation between tribes. Redskin is a racist term, used when mass bounties were put on Native Peoples. Sioux is an Ojibwe word (with a French adaptation) meaning "snake in the grass" to describe the Dakota/Lakota peoples. There is no 'honor' in any of that.

I do not know if you are first nations, and it doesn't matter, you have my vote on this issue. Both Canada and the USA have a very dark history in terms of treating the first nations as second class citizens, in the past and present. The future for the people of the first nations is dependent on the majority of people in our societies today. I see a lot of misinformation and lack of empathy towards the first nations and it saddens me to think some people would have entirely different idea's of the culture and tribes if they would just see the state of the reservations and why our culture needs help from the government that once sought to destroy them.
I do not believe that anyone is aiming to destroy what is left of our culture and population on purpose, but inaction and misinformation could do so if even by accident.
Christopher Cyr You brought up a good point... the PRESENT state of First Nation culture is also unrepresented, and probably even more so than it's pre-colonial state. A couple rez's around me run casinos and make millions, but you don't hear about all the others that don't have that. Families living in roll-off storage containers. But you don't hear about the GOOD stuff either, the musicians and artists trying to make a name for themselves, the styles and jokes. All that's really going on, it's just so 'apart' and unheard of by anyone outside the circle. When people don't know much about Native culture anyway, who knows what they'll believe by merely hearing some rumor?
Nathan Foss most red's don't have much support, and I've found the ones with casino's don't always have a good rez because of it, like all people of all races there can be the greedy ones who are wealthy and the rest that are impoverished. I much agree with you.

I wish people could stop being so ignorant in society with their stereotypes and " social norms"; It's either one extremity or another.
I also don't like the idea of people doing things for the sake of popularity and bandwagoning any good cause for some face time in a fad(I.e. the als ice bucket challenge)
Could we do things for personal reasons or just for the happiness of it, such a s volunteering, and NOT exploit it on social media? You don't need Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter to let people know "how good of a human being are", Because if that was the case, you wouldn't be caught dead at a volunteering opportunity.

I agree with you, however unfortunately it seems for now at least we need to make things like the ALS ice bucket challenge to have progress. We haven't quite evolved beyond this state in humanity yet. At least for the moment I think those fads at least bring in much needed support for the people who need it most and despite my disdain for the method, the cause is noble and worth it. One of the few times I can say "the ends justify the means" without feeling like a dick for it. haha

I think a long time ago I wrote to Serj about my idea that Mexico didn't have much water per person and maybe that's why the country is poor and so much drug production so if somehow they could tap more water sources such as underground perhaps they wouldn't need to produce illicit drugs. If I did write I didn't hear back. Still seems like a good idea. Might reduce illegal immig too

As humans we have the ability to think of tools as an extension of our body; and when talking about tools in other people's hands, we should also think of them as an extension to their body.

Love this interview...We don't need political leaders to run governmental public offices, we need real people with a real connectivity to guide those who are still living in ignorance and denial of the one truth, the prime truth, we are all one with god and nature and with each other, and when we harness our collective power we will reunite and change this reality into something even more spectacular and beautiful, free from evil and corruption, but people need to rediscover themselves, reevaluate their purpose and their existence, understand the world differently in order to accept each other beyond the illusion of color, language and indifference.
On another note : A cause I care about is to see a radical change in the infrastructure of our current social system, local, national, and world wide, from our education, to our knowledge of the universe and our role we play within it, to becoming one with our fellow celestial brotherhood, to rise above tyranny and ignorance, for all to ascend in hopes of one day traveling the stars and reaching higher levels of existence. I realize the "controllers' of this planet won't let that happen easily, so I hold this dream in the back of my mind, until one life I can experience this with the rest of humanity.

The Cause I care about is Research for Congenital Heart Defects (the #1 birth defect no one knows about until it happens to them but it happens 1 out of 100 births) It happened to me and my family, We had a little daughter named Josephine Kay and she lived 19hrs and 34mins she also had Turner's Syndrome which effects 1 out of 1000 births and usually babies with this condition 98% of the time do not get past the first trimester. There needs to be more money funding research because fractions of pennies goes to this research when people donate to the American Heart Association. I think it is a form of genocide that we don't help cure this or find out what causes it so we can prevent it. Sorta kind of a way to control population vs China with their one child rule only worse because the extra children aren't sentenced to an orphanage to hope to be adopted, no they are sentenced to death because they haven't perfected the surgeries to fix issues, and the selfless act of donating ones organs needs to save another human needs to be a big campaign to save children/adults. Sure life isn't about quantity its quality but if you ever met a child with a CHD you would find out they are the most lovable and fun loving kids you ever did meet! Same with Downs Syndrome children they are the most pure and fun loving kids you ever met...and many have CHDs on top of their genetic condition.

I agree. I use my writing to show my opinions about whales and whaling. I think that by encouraging students to use their talent, a new world is opened up to them. I can't sing like Serj Takian, nor am I very artistic. However, the gift of words and paper can be a method used to have your thoughts and feelings reach the hearts of many.

Art is the lens with which I see the world most clearly. When I make art I feel like I am solving a math problem in images. When I complete a work I it is like I have an understanding that was alluding me prior to starting the piece. I would be completely crazy if I didn't have this pure and positive meditative tool. I love Serj XD He gets it.
