omg that dog. too cute!!! I love how the owners incorporated her so much into the build like that nook behind the couch. They seem content and satisfied with their beautiful build.
Love that you included Nugs in your design plan. She's a treasure...reminds me of Lacy, the love of my life. We had 16 years...I wish that and more for you!
Thank you! Now that we have lived in it full time for over a year there are a few things we would change but they are minor things that we can and will likely change, ex. A flushing toilet. ;)
They have the cutest and happiest dog I’ve seen in a while!! Such a pretty home and they seem very happy and relaxed in it. Very good light colors and lots of natural light!❤️
About tiny house no one covers for us information on how to get to to buy one or to park it and what is the cost to park. is it very expensive monthly rent etc. that is the number one most important for people to know
It's hard to answer those questions because it depends on your city/state. They can be difficult to park. We lived in Utah and moved to California because we couldn't find a place close enough to our jobs to justify staying in Utah. Tiny house legislation is getting better, but there's definitely still some red tape on where you can park it. We pay around $900 a month to park our tiny here - which might seem a little steep for some areas, but it's very affordable for this area, about the same price as an RV park but with a better view. And it's less than half of what our rent would have been if we stayed in Utah! Eventually, we'd like to buy some land to put our tiny house on, but right now the laws in the area are just not in our favor to do that. With that said, I've seen people with Tiny's that have a much cheaper rent - we're definitely paying for location here!
Such a sweet, beautiful home at a reasonable cost. ❤ the light treatment, cozy but open feel. Your dog is just gorgeous and happy. Thank you for sharing your home and all the great tips. This is a winner
I totally agree. I am a big tiny house fan, however they are so expensive if you don’t build it yourself. Unfortunately, not all of us are talented enough to build a house of any kind. This is a very nice tiny home and I am very happy for this young couple.
I would encourage you to watch how many tiny home owners say over and over they knew nothing at all about building and learned on the job. They always mention learning through You Tube, and that buying the trailer is the first step of commitment. I'd take the leap if it's something you really want. You only live once and every step you take leads you to the next path in your life!
Yeah! This couple had virtually no previous home building experience. Give it a shot and dont be afraid to ask for help. Its still going to be hard v work but v achievable.
AND they did it themselves in 10 months. I would love to have heard more about the process they used to build. Did they save money to be able to take off ten months or did they work on the house around their business hours? Did they use recycled items or buy new? (Other than the 2-3 items they did mention were free, etc)
😂😂 Or the 52 virgins id need to sacrifice to have a home of my own!! I'm all about this tiny house stuff and want my own someday but it never seemed a reality for my husband and I.
Wow, they fit so much practical living comforts into their truly tiny home. But the most important thing was the space over the couch for their adorable furkid, she is cute!
A Young Smart Couple and Adorable Pup 🐶 doing their thing. A DIY Home build its Beautiful and You Both did a Fantastic Job with a low budget. Thanks for Sharing Enjoyed and Blessings 🙏❤️🥰😇🐕 From Pennsylvania,USA
The outside reminds of the white wall county houses of 19th century U.S.A. Simple and cozy. Why need all the space when smaller and comfortable and the ones who are dear to you are all you need.
Fantastic job. Excellent result. Absolutely amazing that you built this yourself and got it done in 10 months and for only $50k. You should do this for a living. ❤❤❤
You two thought of everything. Your ceiling and counter tops are really nice. The bathroom looks very comfortable too. I like all your black faucets too. Also, the window you can get out of over the bed if there’s a fire was smart. Also, your dog is well loved . Everything is perfect. Colors are nice too. I really enjoyed this video too.👍☮️
Nice home, beautiful doggie and living in California, what more can anyone ask for? Best of luck to all of you. I lived in California for 35 years and had to move, miss it so much. Take care.
What a sweet couple… you should feel so proud.. it’s a beautiful home and I can see how proud you are and how much you love you dog… ( great to see another vegan couple)
Your dog is GORGEOUS. I actually stopped the video just to look at her sweet face! Your home feeeels like a "home". It's very well laid out and decorated. The outside style is a great throwback to homes of the past and it's a nice break from the black boxes that are trending right now. (Those look great, too!) You really thought things through very well in the two months you took before buying a trailer and beginning your build. You're all set for being off grid and all set for winter and summer! Overall, this is such an encouraging video because it shows that a beautiful tiny home can still be had for a tiny fraction of the cost of a traditional home! I enjoyed the tour and hearing the why behind many of your decisions! Best wishes on your journey! 😊
Great job building your first tiny home! I very much appreciate the Craftsman design as well. Love your blued cabinets with the thick, white stained butcher block counter tops. Nuggs is a major cutie, by the way! 😊❤️
A beautiful little family - great couple, gorgeous, characterful pooch. A lovely home, well thought out and aesthetically pleasing. Congrats on a stellar job.
Really great build ~ your home is beautiful and looks as if it is perfect for you and Nuggs!! Enjoy every minute of it. Sending you light, love, peace, joy and abundance always! I love you.
Thank you! We love our Nuggie Nuggs. We did do a DNA test after we had her for while incase there were any health concerns we should be aware of… She is mostly golden retriever, husky and kelpie.
I really liked your ideas! Your layout is so much better than mine! I also have an 8x20 foot tiny house...I'm currently changing a few things ( already) in my house.
Thank you! We watched just about every tiny house show and videos online that we could before we laid out our design. We listed out everything we needed to fit, and made a diagram of our kitchen that labeled what would go where to make sure we weren't forgetting room for anything. Hope your changes to your own house are going well!
Our couch is raised so doesn't feel as high as it looks - it's perfect for Ryan (he's 6' 2") and a little high for me (4'11"), but it's not so high that it's uncomfortable!
I can't find any tiny house communities in So CA from an internet search. If someone started one where you own the property and home, I think it would be huge in popularity. Not a trailer but a true house, at a major savings.
Building a house on a foundation can get very expensive + you need building permits from the city versus a tiny house on wheels (THOW) you can build it however you'd like and then move it where it needs to go. I imagine in San Diego it would be difficult (or maybe impossible) to find land that is permitted/zoned for the use that you mentioned. For example - in Utah, we were unable to look at building a tiny home on a foundation/property because all new build construction had to be over a certain size (I think it was 1,500 sqft) they allowed AUDs on foundations as long as there was a "full size" house on the property first - THOWs were not allowed in most areas. Building a THOW the perfect option for us! There's definitely still a lot of red tape on where you can put them, but Tiny House Block has been a great place for us and it's absolutely beautiful up here.
When Tiny first started, they sure didn't cost 1K or more. Large 3-2 homes cost less than some tinys!? Baffles the mind. To DIY and recycle makes it affordable 😅🎉❤
That’s a shame . Could you do it if you owned your own land? I’ve heard that it can be hard to find a place to park them in the US unless you own land.
We are probably going to switch to a flushing toilet, during the build we didn’t know if we were going to need to be off grid or hooked up to septic. We do have the water feed and can tie into the septic later if we decide to change it. :) but I also am not the biggest fan of our compost toilet. But it’s DIY and doesn’t waste water.
It’s from Ownkoti (Goldenrod Flower Printed Reversible Cotton Quilt). It was a targeted ad for me for like 6 months before I finally pulled the trigger - more than I wanted to spend on a blanket, but it’s light, soft, cute, and fits in our washer/dryer!

Finally! A tiny house that doesn't cost $200K or your first unborn child.
If you have the skills, tools and (most importantly) the time to build it yourself, then a THoW doesn't have to have a six-figure price.

"$50,000 dollars, and 10 months to build"
I guess if more time was dedicated to build a tiny house then perhaps the tiny home could be built faster than 10 months. Maybe it would be cheaper if the couple actually built their own home from scratch. I think buying materials, or asking, for help can create more expenditures.
Correct, we were both working full time jobs for this build and therefore only worked on it in the evenings and on weekends. We were also funding the project as we built (we didn't have a loan), so some big purchases had to wait and delayed the build process. Probably could have build it in 3 months if work and money were not a factor.
We built the entire house ourselves, the only thing we contracted out was the electrical. And we didget NOAH certified, to ensure our tiny house was safe and build properly which added $2,500 to our build. Building it ourselves probably saved us around $40,000-$50,000 grand. Yes, we could have built it for cheaper if didn't splurge on soft-close cabinets or if we built the cabinets ourselves, but we didn't have the time (or the expertise) to do that. Love it but why in the hell put down astroturf? Perennial plants require almost no maintenance and can provide homes and food to other creatures. You could easily install micro clover if you're after no maintenance.
It’s not a long term parking place, we got the turf for a great deal. And we wanted our dog to have a place she could roll a round and do dog things without getting dirty. Also, we have a ton of gophers and moles up here that create holes everywhere so the turf helps keep those tripping hazards to a minimum. But I agree, the micro clover is a great alternative to real grass and is something we will do once we have a more long term space to park the tiny house. We also get snow and the turf is easy to shovel off so we still get some outdoor living/entertaining space.
Thank you for your thoughtful response.
