I’m 67 living in California all my life. I have 3 grown sons who will never be able to afford to buy a home in CA. They all work in construction oldest a contractor, middle a plumber and youngest an electrician. My dream is me to sell my home and all of us buy a piece of land to build our little community/ homestead. I’d love a tiny home and they can build whatever type of homes they want. The grandkids can be close, we can grow our own food, kids could have horses, dogs, etc my ex their dad could join us in his own tiny.
What a great idea! Indeed, sell your home, purchase the land, and start your own homestead. If you have a chance, purchase a bigger one and build something similar to this community. I saw more videos from these types of communities, and all people seemed happier than anywhere else.
Boy, you hit the jackpot for sons! 🙌🏽 I’m 70 and live in CA…it’s getting more difficult to make ends meet…we happen to own a double lot which we plan to split so we can stay here. I wish you and your ‘boys’ the best of luck!
@BethanyLoyd-h6t: They are paying for community and the services that this particular place offers. Plus, tiny house communities are not allowed all over the place. In some areas, they are only allowed in certain areas. Maybe this place met all of their needs. There are some places that charge a lower amount per month, but this amount is fairly standard, at least what I have found. It all depends on what you are looking for. I would want a community to be around, but I get that some would want to live away from others. I feel that way too sometimes.
Tiny house designed as a forever home for retirees should prioritize comfort, accessibility, and sustainability, providing a cozy and functional living space where they can enjoy their retirement years to the fullest.
Sadly, there are bunch of issues with that. Example: I don't drive and need to stay in the city. City zoning laws don't allow these as an ADU, or especially as a primary residence. Then there is NIMBY blocking everything. It all has to start with provincial, city and town zoning laws being changed and I just don't see that happening ever. :(
One of the loveliest color schemes and layout design of any tiny house I've seen. The turquoise is just perfect. Love the ground floor bedroom. A loft isn't an option for me anymore.
This is one of those tiny houses that I have no criticism for. It's very thoughtfully planned. Everything about it felt like a lot of thought went into it and that couch looked comfy enough even for Cristian. I noticed USB outlets by the bed and unless you ask for that kind of consideration from a builder it rarely happens. The entire place looked very cozy and easy to move around in and use. I give them 5 out of 5 stars.
Minimaliste tiny home builders have an excellent thought process with their designs. If you haven't seen their work, please check out their TH-cam videos; they really are incredible. 😊
Agreed. I’d vote for unlimited Tiny homes to exist legally MORE. with or without wheels. (Ramps along the front the length of the tiny house would be another thought. 💭 this was super thoughtfully executed, however. Looks like you have a garden, too. Plant based & organic is always another great idea. I’m 75 and recovered from end stage cancer that way (plus other lifestyle changes … supplements, etc ) THAKK YOU for sharing 😊all this! Thank you Kathleen and Byron for your tiny home advocacy! At least there are more communities in the US that are allowing tiny homes. Here in Canada we have a long way to go yet. I do agree that a lot of the challenge is around how to collect enough property taxes, but up here we have a big housing crisis, especially around affordable homes. Although I have been watching the tiny house movement since Jay Shafer's "Tumbleweed" tiny was on the cover of Natural Home magazine back in 2000, I still see a lot of misunderstanding about tiny homes. Many people think that the only people who live in tiny homes (especially THOWs) are poor and have no other choices, and that they will ruin neighbourhoods. And yet what I see in all my research is that these places have the best sense of community overall! I keep sending tiny house videos to the local planners so they know what is possible, and your story and your home is perfect to show what a benefit tiny homes can be for individuals and families. Many seniors want to downsize but don't want to live in apartments or apartment-style condos, and the fact that everybody can live together and benefit from each other in tiny house communities is a real plus in my mind. Thanks so much for sharing your story and your home! And thanks to Alexis and Christian for featuring you!
Thank you! My perception is there is a housing crisis just about everywhere. I believe this will push elected officials toward legalizing tine homes (wheels or no wheels). Keep educating your elected officials to the benefits of going tiny!
Janina you are right on target! Perhaps the need for affordable housing will push along change in regulations. But I think we each need to share the reality that tiny homes are legitimate, safe spaces and should be a legal option. Thank you!
Wow! Byron and Kathleen 🫶🏻 You really are what the tiny house movement is all about! downsizing. This co-creation was a pleasure to take part in, you definitely made this house a cozy home of yours, filled with love and creativity! ❤ Awesome community too, and great video 👌🏻
We couldn't have done it without YOU, @minimalistehouses! Your extensive experience & high quality standards brought our vision to reality. We are so grateful!
This is the first time I've seen a video of someone who actually OWNS a Minimaliste tiny home. I can't tell you how excited I am to see your PHENOMENAL work in daily use. I can't WAIT for the day, when I'm living in your Charme model. I LOVE you guys! 🤩😍🤩😍🤩
What a lovely segment! This couple obviously loves their home, and made many, many thoughtful design decisions to ensure this would work for them. Honestly in awe of how much thought they put into this VERY liveable space! Taking notes for what I want in my own retirement!
The backslash looks like fish scales to me. Very fitting for the Two Fishes. So much detail in your home. You seem very peaceful and giving to your neighbors.
This is one of the best I see in tiny home videos! These two knew what they wanted, harmonious about what they wanted, and very eloquent in explaining everything without cutting each other too much. It's so nice to see people getting to grow old with their soulmates (it used to be my life goal back when I thought I had one), that's one of the biggest blessing one can get in a lifetime. I wish this couple health, wealth, peace, and happiness for the rest of their lives. (PS: I love Mabel! I love relaxed, cool, and calm senior dogs! The same wishes for her, too!) ❤ Sending positive thoughts from half the globe away!
Such a lovely couple. I love how they have planned for their future needs. Everything is so well organized, colorful. The backsplash is so nice, and a very clever idea. Loving the bedroom on the main floor! ❤Lovely home. 😍
As. Kenyan inam honored that you nsmed your tiny hiuse after a place in Kenya. May God give you both long life filled with many happy memories in your cozy and chic tiny home
Love. Love. LOVE this story! It was wonderful to hear this couple talking openly about their lifestyle and how they’ve made it work for them. They now live the Tiny House dream of so many people around the world! This shows exactly how Tiny house life in a small, safe community can benefit those who wish to live this way. As for this house, The Minimalist Tiny homes are my absolute fav designs in the whole world and I’ve never seen a video of people actually living in one. So this was really special to see! I loved her blue pops of colour, sea glass back splash and all the storage. A++! 🩷🩷. God Bless this beautiful couple with health and happiness for years to come. 🙏🏻
What a beautiful home and couple. Yes there needs to be more towns/ areas where tiny homes are accepted. I so enjoyed this video of a beautiful tiny home. ❤
Acone Belle seems like an ideal community for tiny home dwellers. This house was lovely in every way. I'm about their age, so it would be perfect for me, too!
I love minimaliste and have been following them for years so I recognized their work right away 😊😊 good to see someone who actually live in it and love it!
I continued to watch and thought their outdoor living area is beautiful and to have chickens and space for gardening is awesome! I really hope that Kathleen doesn’t have any future health problems, and they can enjoy their remarkable tiny home for many years!
This is well thought out for Kathleen & Byron. So glad to see people planning for the future with an age-in-place design! Now, as others mentioned, let's get the zoning boards planning for the future, too!
Love this tiny home that was so brilliantly designed!! And the couple seem to be outstanding people willing to help push forward for more allowances for these homes to be built for smarter more economically friendly for those of us who who wish to downsize to survive well in our every increasing economy. Not everyone would opt to live this way just as people who live in mobile homes or RV’s some still choose to live in traditional housing. The more options available the better for our community built to allow everyone to thieve. If we are too focused on the almighty dollar we will miss meeting the needs of everyone. My prayers are with this couple and others as they trail blaze for these communities and certain areas to at least be zoned for these tiny homes. Thanks for videoing this tiny home and sharing all the information of how and why they chose to build it the way they did.
Just Beautiful, enjoyed watching, and I lived in Charleston SC for 25 years and now about 45 minutes from these folks out here on 16 acres. I hope they keep pushing the powers that be to allow tiny homes. Loved the 1st floor bedroom, kitchen, etc, loved the chickens too.😊😊
I have wanted a tiny house ever since I started watching the shows on TV. I retired 10 years ago and it is so difficult cleaning my house even though it's less than 2,000 sq.ft. I was recently diagnosed with scoliosis. I am in a lot of pain and unable to do much cleaning. It would take me forever to downsize all my accumulated items but it would be worth it in the long run. You've made me aware of something I didn't know, how dare the government not allow people to live in tiny homes permanently. The government has too much control over our lives for us to be able to even enjoy living anymore. It gets worse everyday. Citizens really catch the brunt of everything whereas immigrants have a better advantage. If anyone can provide where I need to go and help get that law passed, please let me know how to proceed. Your home is absolutely gorgeous and it makes me want one so bad. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I ove the colors in the home decorations. I also love how they are involved in promoting tiny home living. It really shouldnt be so hard to be able to live in smaller houses in the USA!
You nailed it, Kathleen, by saying you're expected to own a house and pay property taxes, even if it doesn't fit your lifestyle or financial situation. In our neighborhood we've seen elderly people deal with the care and maintenance of owning standard size homes even when they would be better off in a place that's easier for the to take care of, and cheaper to run. Good for you two for doing what works for you now and into your old age.
I too hope more states embrace tiny home villages where Hedge Funders cant price people out of homes. Plus the Real Estate lobby is too strong. They cant make commission when you can pay cash. Thank for the tour. Your home is gorgeous. Wishing you both good health.
TS 6:15 I had no idea that there is a moisture problem. I will definitely add the exchange unit to my future build. TS 8:59 Magnetized knife rack is a great idea instead of a knife block taking up space on the countertop. Having a hood vent makes a lot of sense. TS 9:40 Love the side cabinets for cutting boards and cookie sheets. TS 12:00 OMG A sense in the floor for flooding to shut off the water? Amazing. TS 12:26 Definitely goin to have to add that space as well.
Love the design! I would screen in the covered portion of the porch & use the bedroom door as the entrance/exit for that part so you don't have to get eaten up by mosquitoes.
What a lovely couple 😊 They've thought everything through & the home really suits their current and future needs. Good-sized deck too. I wish them many years of happiness there 😊
Not having tiny home communities that offer affordable housing IS a root cause of elder poverty homelessness and homelessness in general period! Congratulations
A good design and enough room to move around makes for comfy living! That extra two feet in width makes all the difference in tiny homes! It looks like you have used every nook and cranny for useful storage! You could give a course in Tiny Living 101! Cheers,Sandy&Andy from the Okanogan, Canada🎉
Love your home. I am from Montreal and your kitchen tiles are from a company my son worked at, in Montreal. I am impressed with the quality of your home. Heather Canada
This is one of the most well thought out floor plans I've seen in awhile. Tons of storage, each space is well defined and just big enough for comfort of use!
Love the sizes of the living room and the bedroom. I'm disabled and the layout is perfect for me. My problem would be my books as I own a few thousand AFTER downsizing them. My walls would be total shelves.
I think you’re doing the right thing! More people will be choosing more tiny home options especially with the cost of living! Beautiful home and community. 😘
I stayed at Acony Bell Community mid May & loved it! I passed this house many times & admired it. I just wish I had seen these people & got to talk with them. Love the layout!
The light blues with natural, tan and white is such a restful, serene color scheme. And such a professional presentation. No wasted words. Your home is really luxurious but also casual living. I think I commented before. I remembered when I saw the dowel idea. Beautiful views!
You make a valid point about legalizing tiny homes. It's truly beautiful there and having some space between neighbors helps. I have wanted to move out there, but then the politics became so transparently corrupt. So I have shelved that hoping for positive change. NC has so much otherwise, that I would love.
I really loved your colour scheme, so many hues of blue, aqua, turquoise, including your sweater! Sounds like you are really enjoying your place, so much. Best of health to you both!
Awesome. Love how they thought of the future with "handicapping" it. And sea glass is so pretty and so is the design! I agree with the washer, great house! 🙂
I'm so glad you are doing well now, and equally glad you have such good neighbors. I'm a former Nurse as well and familiar with this condition. You two are a beautiful couple, with a beautiful home and doggie. The kitchen is gorgeous, love the blue, the back splash. Plenty of space and storage. That hood vent does look powerful. I would future proof my hoom as well. I like seeing side by side washers and dryers in tiny homes, that's what I would have as well. Downstairs bedroom is a must. I really enjoy seeing art on walls, it just make it feel more lived in. I too would have the things I like in my tiny as well including my books, it makes it feel like a real home/regular sized home. Take care, and thanks for sharing.
I love your home. I also don’t see the need for a dishwasher for two people. We have also always had a dishwasher because it comes with the homes, but in the last 20 years we have used it maybe twice, when we had people over at Christmas, at the insistence of one of the children.
What an ingenious idea with the dowel. Especially as retirees. We have also made our house wheel chair accessible as we grow older. Your house is incredible! And kudos to your husband. Your community is a wonderful place to be also. Sounds Idealic!
This is one of my favorite new homes. My husband and I are preparing to downsize our lives. We have a few more years before we retire, but want to have a new home idea ready before we get to the last moment. It was interesting to hear that there are places who do not let people live in tiny homes full time. We will keep this in mind as we move forward. Thank you for all the good knowledge.
This tiny home is so beautiful! It’s the perfect layout for someone like me who has some mobility issues that will get worse with time. I’m saving this one for future reference 🥰
Love this house! So beautifully done. I’m from Canada and have been following Minimaliste for years. I think they build top quality tiny homes and I hope to have a tiny house by them when I retire.
It looks like you have everything you need, and your house is beautiful! I love your kitchen with the pretty back splash, green refrigerator, and fantastic storage space!
Another thing not specified in the video in support to Minimaliste their builder is Minimaliste knowledge and execution of insulation and ventilation because operating in Quebec, Canada the climate goes from minus 40 iCelsius n winters to 35-40 in summers. In order to keep costs down whether heating or cooling while avoiding mold issues they are certainly a great builder to deal with in addition to all their design ideas. And for Americans it ends cheaper than for us Canadians because of the currency exchange rate. All I've seen online of their customers are happy ones.
I've been following the tiny home movement for over a decade with plans for building my own in the future. @minimaliste is one of the two builders I've chosen. The quality, craftsmanship, design & styling are evident in every model. They look at what's needed for successful full-time living in tiny homes & ensure the maintenance will be minimal. Their attention to details like the air exchangers to prevent moisture buildup, water filtration units & leak detection sensors are so important. Other builders may cost less, but quality means everything. It's refreshing to see how this couple has adapted their home thinking about their futures. They have an incredibly beautiful, well decorated & comfortable home.
We are deeply grateful to the team at Minimaliste for all the reasons you've stated. They were my favorite from the very beginning, and we were so happy that their cost quote beat the US builders we considered. We will always speak high praise for this talented team!!
In California you can put a tiny home on anyone’s property , they call them granny flats. WE have two neighbors that built a granny flat for their parents and all of them love it . And it works out for all involved .
I am a fan of Minimaliste, I watched several of their video presentations. It is nice to see the home lived in and how they adapted the design to fit the owners. Thanks for talking about the air circulation and ways to control the humidity. They will be able to live in this home for a long time. Thanks for showing and sharing your experience.
Beautiful home...Thank You for your HONEST sharing of tiny home living. Not many share of the moisture issues, and how to deal with that and the laundry situationm Most say the combo is great .. Appreciate your honesty!! 🩷
I live in Spartanburg but had family in Mill Springs😊 area and have been there many times. It’s a beautiful place to be. Love the tiny home. I’m in the process of planning my forever tiny home. I love your floor plan and may incorporate many ideas. 😊
@@kathleenwhite3652 Oh hi Kathleen! You have such a stunning home and location. I hope to have a dog one day...until then it fills my heart with joy to see other people's. I know everyone in my village but their dog's names. 🤣
Great idea! I love sleeping in the loft-very cozy, and a terrific cross-breeze with windows at bed level on opposite sides. But as we age, I think the main floor will be safer.
The thoughtfulness of these two and there builder about every detail is incredible. Careful planning truly makes all the difference in a tiny home design!
I really like this home. Lots of good use of space, and it is beautiful as well. I like they are in a community where they can garden and have chickens and all the benefits that large lot single owners have, but still have the ability to live in a tiny.
What a beautiful home you have created! The community is the chef's kiss! I love the colors, I'm a big teal fan. I have a German lab, she's buff too. We are all ready to move in!! Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed this TH tour. I like how this couple tried to think of everything that might occur in the future. Love the design and the first floor bedroom. I’m sure they did a lot of paring down coming from a 2,000 SF home, but it looks like they have everything they need! Wishing you many more happy years of Tiny house living together!

The fact that tiny homes are so needed right now and our city and county governments are not allowing them really is insane!
I totally agree!
We have the same problem in Idaho.
Tiny house designed as a forever home for retirees should prioritize comfort, accessibility, and sustainability, providing a cozy and functional living space where they can enjoy their retirement years to the fullest.

I LOVE those etch glasses with the animals and also the backsplash in the kitchen. Looks like it was painted with watercolors.
I pray you are safe and sound after hurricane Helene. 🙏
Happy to report that they and all their neighbors are ok, and their tiny homes too 💗💕
TS 6:15 I had no idea that there is a moisture problem.
So happy you found some good ideas!
I love that you have chickens and a garden. The perfect combination! So healthy 👍
Love the design! I would screen in the covered portion of the porch & use the bedroom door as the entrance/exit for that part so you don't have to get eaten up by mosquitoes.
Thank you! In the 21 months we’ve lived here, I’ve seen TWO mosquitos!
What a lovely couple 😊 They've thought everything through & the home really suits their current and future needs. Good-sized deck too. I wish them many years of happiness there 😊
Your home is gorgeous! Enjoy!!! AND thank you for sharing ☺
Not having tiny home communities that offer affordable housing IS a root cause of elder poverty homelessness and homelessness in general period! Congratulations
A good design and enough room to move
around makes for comfy living! That extra
two feet in width makes all the difference
in tiny homes! It looks like you have used
every nook and cranny for useful storage!
You could give a course in Tiny Living 101!
Cheers,Sandy&Andy from the Okanogan,
Canada🎉
I've been watching tiny House videos for quite some time now and this is the best house I've ever seen, not only beautiful, but practical.
Love your home.
I am from Montreal and your kitchen tiles are from a company my son worked at, in Montreal.
I am impressed with the quality of your home.

Your son worked for Muraluxe?! We LOVE how this product brought "sea glass" into our space, and is so durable & functional.
Tiny House Expedition, you're a content legend
You are too kind-thank you very much! ☺️❤️
We understand! We had about 2000 before downsizing.
That's okay! You make space for the things that bring you the most joy.
Great kitchen storage. Such a bright and charming home just like the owners!
I think you’re doing the right thing! More people will be choosing more tiny home options especially with the cost of living! Beautiful home and community. 😘
I love the minimaliste house designs. This is the first one I've seen after the owners move in and it looks great!
My husband and I would love to get a tiny home, but we need to have three homes connected. One for him, one for me and one for us. Looks wonderful!
I stayed at Acony Bell Community mid May & loved it! I passed this house many times & admired it. I just wish I had seen these people & got to talk with them. Love the layout!
Come on back! We'd be happy to have a chat over a glass of sweet tea!
@@kathleenwhite3652 will be back next year & take you up on it!! Thank you.
The light blues with natural, tan and white is such a restful, serene color scheme. And such a professional presentation. No wasted words. Your home is really luxurious but also casual living. I think I commented before. I remembered when I saw the dowel idea. Beautiful views!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
You two did a wonderful job! So beautiful, functional and warm.
Love the sea glass looking tiles. Beautiful!
Lovely people, she was so informative and meticulously detail oriented. They embraced change optimistically .. my spirit animal ❤😅
I love your home. I also don’t see the need for a dishwasher for two people. We have also always had a dishwasher because it comes with the homes, but in the last 20 years we have used it maybe twice, when we had people over at Christmas, at the insistence of one of the children.
What a beautiful place and neighborhood, wish i could have it too😊
Beautiful home, I agree tiny homes should be legalized, everywhere, the cost of living is a struggle as is.
Nice. Well thought out. The outdoor space is perfect for inviting the outdoor in and extending the sq. footage of the living space.
I hope more states and counties legalize for tiny home communities.
Please do what you can to advocate with zoning officials in your area!
I love your tiny home! It is well thought thru and a very nice design for retirement!
What a Beautiful Home and community!!
Hope you do 💕😊
Quality builds have been the hallmark of Minimaliste for years now. Their cabinetry work is AMAZING!
LOVE the tiny!
Also, love the bottom left side pop-up info.
Beautiful home and beautiful people
Absolutely true!
Another beautiful place with great people.
The wheels on the sofa was genius 😂❤😂❤
It looks like you have everything you need, and your house is beautiful! I love your kitchen with the pretty back splash, green refrigerator, and fantastic storage space!
This couple has a very nice Tiny home 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊
Very Nice, Love the colors!
Community is so lovely 🌹
One of very favorite tiny home communities
@@sjladuke75 Very well-said. You brought up important points. What's the other buider that you like. ?
We are deeply grateful to the team at Minimaliste for all the reasons you've stated. They were my favorite from the very beginning, and we were so happy that their cost quote beat the US builders we considered. We will always speak high praise for this talented team!!
@@kathleenwhite3652 Very happy for you !
Beautiful home.... Mabel is living the dream and rightly so. ❤️🏡
Awww, Mabel shout-out! She was not part of our tiny house plan. But sometimes they choose you❤
@@kathleenwhite3652 Oh hi Kathleen! You have such a stunning home and location. I hope to have a dog one day...until then it fills my heart with joy to see other people's. I know everyone in my village but their dog's names. 🤣
19:45 this room would be my art and stuffs room, and the lift would be strictly for bedtime and relaxing away….❤
Great idea! I love sleeping in the loft-very cozy, and a terrific cross-breeze with windows at bed level on opposite sides. But as we age, I think the main floor will be safer.
Beautiful house and outdoor space. I absolutely love all the storage in this home.
Loved this beautiful couple! Also great input on shut offs and ventilation. Those are often an afterthought. They planned well and it shows!
The thoughtfulness of these two and there builder about every detail is incredible. Careful planning truly makes all the difference in a tiny home design!
Beautiful retirement home! Wonderful details preparing for elderly years.
I love the well thought out design of this tiny home, and the future proofing. Thank you for sharing your process with us.
Looks like Paradise! God Bless you both! Wishing you both a very long and healthy life ahead!
Nice home, didn't seem tiny at all. Very nice couple.
