  • I finished off the alleyway and so in today’s episode, I’m going to finish off this tan building and then create an embankment to add some height variation to my city.

    I really appreciate that despite everything being digital, you don't take the unlimited amount of parts for granted and actually use things like brick and plywood for extreme changes in elevation the way most of us city builders would in real life. Keep up the great work!

    The fact you're creating an industrial cityscape is fascinating, making this series 100x more interesting than a digital 'standard' city that usually have too much crammed into too little space. Your layout feels natural and realistic.

    Love the elevated rail spur! I believe most of those in real life are former coaling docks - you'd spot a hopper car full of coal there and it'd dump out below the cars into large bins for delivery to local buildings for heating! They're more common in the northeastern US, and you can see plenty of them if you know where to look! Very curious to see what you'll repurpose this one into.

    • @CanosieLabs

      I really want to make one of those iron ore docks you see in the Great Lakes ie the ones in Duluth

    • @bsquiklehausen
      @bsquiklehausen 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CanosieLabs That'd be super cool, though probably not the most realistic for the middle of a city! Ore trains were almost always *only* carrying huge quantities of ore and it's rare to see ore jennies mixed in with a normal train.
      I had planned an abandoned coal dock turned scrap yard that looked a lot like this on my N scale layout - could be a cool direction to go - gondolas would come in above and a large claw crane would load them full of scrap from below.

      hi, some of the flicking is caused by the denoising. In fact, the scene where the camera is inside the truck originally had a lot of flickering near the corners. I removed that using Divinci Resolve temporal noise reduction. It works pretty good..though you do loose some fine detail though. So it's a balance.

I spread out the rendering over weeks, usually at night. But sometimes I make a mistake and have to re-render a segment which is painful :(

    • @CanosieLabs
      @CanosieLabs  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hi, That's a good question. I do make some optimizations even now. At some point I'll have to start breaking the city in to separate files and this is ok since close up shots don't ever show the entire city. I have tried some quick performance tests to see how zoomed out shots that pan across the entire city would work.
      I did it by duplicating the existing buildings so isn't a 'true' performance 'test' since I basically created many many linked duplicates of my existing buildings but this is all I can do for now. It did seem to handle quite a large city.
      Of course the viewport becomes unusable long before this. This is somewhat ok since I can just hide the buildings I'm not working on.

      hi. I wanted to build a Lego city, but I don't have the space for it where I live. Or the spare money. But I do really like the creative aspects of building (I did a bit of HO scale modeling - trains in the past). So I decided to try it out in digitally.
