Oh, I love it when rabbits do that. My rabbit has recently started grunting when she wants out of her cage--regardless of how many hours she's been out. It's the cutest rabbit noise I've ever heard.
My rabbit learned one day that when she grunted that people tended to feed her...since then, she's starting making a good 5 or so new noises aimed primarily for the purpose of getting food. Cute lop BTW!
I like how after you said what did you say he responded in this exact same grunting pattern as before. it's almost like he repeated what he said before.😀😀
they are very good pets, very quiet and clean. i have 2 and they hang out in several rooms in the house but they always use their litterbox to do their poops and pees. they do like to chew and dig so you don't want them near the good furniture or near any electrical cords... but otherwise they are great!
@SuperCheesetastic yes, spaying is important even if they're alone. female bunnies that aren't spayed have a great chance of getting ovarian/uterine cancer. it also changes their behavior, makes them less aggressive.
That is not wrong... I once had a #metoo experience with a rabbit that humped and came on my sweater because I had a female rabbit at home and he could smell it. I threw that sweater. Yuck.
We just got a little female bunny of same race of our fatty male bunny (gray dwarf lionheads). all he does it grunt and make pig noises, we touch the female and let him smell it, he goes nuts.. I mean it's cute minus the part of him trying to rape her constantly and her stomping her feet with the force of a jet airplane in the middle of the night..
Yeah but it can also mean that they are excited. Thats why the bunny in this video was making those noises, because he was excited that his/her owner was there
@@ParleLeVu It's not a pound me too movement-moment, unless you're making it up, years after it supposedly happened, because yer past the age to go gold-digging, any other way.
Our bunny just made this noise... we've had her for 13 months and this is only the second time I've heard her grunt like that (first time was after a bath). So I've been a bit worried, wondering if she might be sick, and have been busy googling and looking up rabbit noises. Very happy to find this video and learn that it doesn't have to be a bad thing! She seems fine, has given me a friendly lick as per usual, but hasn't touched her breakfast yet...
I know it's been 5 years since your comment. Was woundering how your bunny is doing. I hope you learned not to give any more baths...they bathe themselves. The water will terrify a bunny. If you haven't yet, do more research and see a vet for additional advice. Love for bunnies for life !
My bunny grunts all the time when she want to cuddle he grunts when she wants kisses or treats she shoves her face in my face and grunts it's just their way of talking
@RaynBowhVonVicious honking and grunting is common for un neutered males. it can mean they are excited. he used to do it a lot when he was begging for food. nestle stopped making noises after he got "fixed."
@DanMarik Our bunny took many months to get nicer. It can take time. She still grunts and even attacks when we go give her hay, or if she's hungry. But the 'freezing' thing doesn't necessarily sound bad.
my sister used to have a feisty rabbit which used to growl and bit all the time.. pretty much everytime u went to pick him up. we treated his so well he just had a chip on his shoulder
My Holland Lop, Rori, always made this deep-toned grunt and stomped her hind paws when she wasn't happy. As sassy as she was, this "tantrums" were pretty common. xD
@TheEmmeey yes, and this video was taken 3 years ago before he was neutered. he doesn't honk/grunt as much now. romaine, green leaf and red leaf lettuce is ok for them...iceberg is not recommended because it can give them diarrhea. yes, he has a banana addiction i'm afraid...he gets a piece(about an inch long) everyday and he's not happy until he gets it!
@TheAaron1924 i think it's because she doesn't see very well right in front where her nose is (they have a blindspot) and also because she's very protective of anything that she thinks is hers. so i don't try to pet her when she is in "her" house or "her" litterbox because i know she'll be mad!
They grunt like that as a sign of love. Definitely not because they are scared. If he was scared he would probably be thumping his back paws. One of my bunnies grunts quietly when I walk into the room & he runs around me. He's excited to see me! xx
@DanMarik yes, spaying is important even if they're alone. female bunnies that aren't spayed have a great chance of getting ovarian/uterine cancer. it also changes their behavior, makes them less aggressive.
Awww.... This makes me think of my bunny.. He was so cute and friendly, and just overall, one of the sweetest bunnies you'd ever meet.. Sadly, he passed away after a while of having orange pee.. I didn't know back then that carrots were actually bad for them. I feel so terrible and I still miss him so much... :(
@TheAaron1924 most rabbits don't like to be picked up, they get scared. they feel safer on the ground. yes, after they are neutered they are usually more calm. i have one that growls and lunges at my hand if i put it near her face too.
yes, i have a magnet on the fridge with the list of approved fruits and veggies from the house rabbit connection so i just follow that. he doesn't grunt for his breakfast anymore (since i had him neutered) he just stands and begs quietly.
I actuly have alot of rabbits and there are different reasons why rabbits grunt. sometimes they do it to express anger as a "go away!" sign. They also do it to protect there family or even there on objects such as food bowls. As RaynBowhVicious says they sometimes do it if there happy and enjoying and for instance if your rabbit is male asnd has not been snipped it does it because it can smell another rabbit or its getting excited because it can smell a female. i hope this infor will help! :)
@katr112 The grunting is a very quiet sound. You would have to be in the same room to hear it at all, and pretty much in their face to hear it clearly/loudly.
@Lovingirl80 NO, don't ever spank a bunny! they have very delicate spines and get get hurt easily. give your bunny something to dig, like a box of shredded paper or old phone book...they love to chew and dig!
no, they were good friends! daisy would jump over the gate and hang out with him all the time. the gate was there to keep nestle in his room when i couldn't supervise him (at night) bunnies like to eat electrical cords and the whole house wasn't bunny proof, just his room.
My rabbit just started making that sound, we adopted her a week ago, and she does it when she follows me around the apartment. She is unspayed so I am not sure if it because she is "courting" or is happy and wants to be by me all the time. Cause she always follows me now
I own 17 rabbits and study animal husbandry at college, it sounds like she is grunting because she loves you and wants you to stroke/play/be her servant, by unswayed female rabbit is making this sound as I type this and licking me 🐰
Carmen Campbell Hi Carmen, when your girl bunny is at least 2 months old, please look into getting her spayed. Something like 95% of female bunnies will get ovarian/reproductive cancers if not spayed. There is good info about this online, google House Rabbit Society or House Rabbit Network @ rabbitnetwork.org
@friscolane OMG, you should get one! there are so many sad bunnies in shelters just waiting to find a home where they can run around and be happy! there are shelters/rescues in every state and you can find adoptable bunnies on petfinder. i learned as i went along...all about having a house bunny.(HRS house rabbit society online will give you all the info you could need) they are pretty neat and clean pets, they use a litterbox and they clean each other constantly. (i have 2 lops)

"Human I demand the lettuce and the carrots this instant!"
:D why did i read this in a "stewie griffin" voice :D
"WHAT?"
Terinka14 Same 😂
You don't give rabbits lettuce and carrots it's actually bad for them
Rabbits are rarely vocal, but it's behavior and the way it grunted shows you have 1 very happy bunny!
My rabbit learned one day that when she grunted that people tended to feed her...since then, she's starting making a good 5 or so new noises aimed primarily for the purpose of getting food. Cute lop BTW!
Yes bunnies are very intelligent -- they know how to wrap you around their little finger, er paw, to get their way!
bunny: I'll have a double with large fries and Dr. Pepper pls .
girl: I'll get you some lettuce
Bunny: :/
Bass EXE lmao SU true
haha
Bass EXE,
😂😂😂😂 u made me laugh
My rabbit started honking at me like that the day after I showed him this video.
101Swiftflick really ??
I agree with you,
He or she is honking.
Thats not grunting. That's honking.
Wtf 6 years ago lol
@Tester Test Grunting is an angry/defensive expression. Honking is excitement.
Let's bump this comment 6 years later, everyone!

Thank, god it means they are happy. I was worried about my bunny having a respiratory problem, lol.
mine does that when he's happy that I'm about to give him food
@XxPlaylixts _Trendz no it can mean several things even that hes hungry wich would fit his situation
Same for mine as well always does it when I’m about to give it food
Awww what a sweet bun bun! He really loves his human mommy!! Such a cutie!!

the Bunny said "get out of there and lemme kill u with cuteness''
Lady: you want some lettuce, want some carrots?
Bunny: does a bear shit in the woods?
That's not grunting, that's honking a sign of happiness
Awww reminds me so much of my Dutch Lola she always grunts like that!
noot noot!
thats a mating noise meaning theyre reaching puberty.

This was my bunny's favourite video. He had to be put down today from kidney failure:( RIP Robbie 2003-2007

what'd you say? "Out, ouuut!"
My rabbit only grunts when I play fight with her, she is a New Zealand White and about 11Lbs. She is on my profile picture.

males usually do that when want to mate! nestle would do it when it was time for breakfast usually. once he was neutered he stopped grunting/honking.

My rabbits gets mad and grunts when she feels like we ignore her...haha
